So Batguard is trash tier not fit for platinum

Honestly, why do you even play this game? All your threads just trash the game and bitch and moan. Go find something you enjoy.

Because he, like many here, are interested in discussing the flaws in the hopes the game gets better. And given the state of the game, venting is entirely reasonable.

If Batarian melee wasn't so god damn slow it would be a different story

You need flak cannon stun, (and for it to stun) for Batvan to make any impact. (or a solid squad built around supporting him) HVan has nova and shockwave, Krogan has fortification, rage and nova. Duelist at least has invincible frames and backlash for "oh shyt" moments. Batvan has no safety net besides a potential flak cannon stun.

Only way I can even play this class is if I had a team who were detonating and shooting everything in my anni-field literally keeping me alive. He doesn't have enough stun/stagger to be played as a vanguard as you would any other. Honestly looking at all his positives Vs negatives, I would say he's a permanent gold level character. (even being supported, your squad is now chasing the batvan, and 20% debuff isn't enough)

Flak cannon AoE Damage and DoT

Irrelevant to list negatives because the 3 positives are negative enough imo. Hold the line is a joke on gold-Platinum unless you have the shields and/HP. That is literally whats being "held" by hold the line. Annihilation field is the core of his kit, but a player would do better not specking into it at all, defeating the purpose of using the kit I still haven't tried an "on-off" annihilation playstyle, I guess it might work if the cooldown of anni itself is low enough. But still, at the core, he is a mook killer as far as I can toss him. Literally on the same level as the human kinetisis in platinum...

Now once I get him some more levels I'll be able to get a better hold of him, still, I don't see up close debuff play, or melee play as a platinum strategy.


Oh and I'm really curious, do you guys think that bioware is unaware that you can't detonate your own Anni with Bcharge? Because if they aren't.... it all would make 100% sense.... :dumb:

I'm not going to try to justify using the vanguard in platinum but a few people have mentioned how slow his melee is. Have you tried using his sprint melee instead? It seems a bit faster. I almost never use his standard melee because of this.

I have it at rank II and finding it a lot of fun on Gold. I wouldn't bother thinking about platinum just yet until rank X as full-on Flak Cannon would be essential for platinum but I could see myself using him on platinum eventually but I wouldn't use his melee on platinum as that would be silly.

Having experimented a lot with him on gold I've come to the realisation that having both Hold the Line and Bastion active together for 5 seconds of DR is crucial for staying alive while you're melee-ing in between charges.

It's very different to the old Batarian vanguard where you would mostly charge + melee, now it's more like charge for DR, flak stun, melee for shields, melee for shields, melee for shields, charge, etc. When you get the hang of the rhythm it is unbelievably fun on Gold and well worth the wait.
