I really like the typhoon for killing bosses, but it's drawbacks just get me killed. Every little stagger or elbow punch is a moment without a weapon, and another ramp up. Fighting a banshee on a ramp is just endless pauses and ramp ups. It's not great up close or fighting mooks. And on host phantoms are a death sentence. I'd like to try something else.
So what's the best replacement with about the same kind of purpose but without the ramp-up? Shotguns don't reach out, except crusader, but too many misses with that one. SMGs and pistols lack the punch. A sniper? That kind of changes the play style. Is an AR the only choice?
What am I missing.

Harrier though it makes things a bit too easy. PPR has a ramp up, but after it get's a 4x multiplier and has unlimited ammo. The ramp up is worth the dps, you just need to master soft cover. Saber may be what you are looking for. It has damage somewhere between the viper and valiant and no hip fire penalty. It does require good aim and phasics to get the most punch.
Out of the smgs, the hurricane has ridiculous dps once you master the recoil. Ap barrel and heatsink are a must.
Snipers are good but it does require good aim and quick shooting. The bw and jav are the best at what they do. They too need phasics to make the most of their power.
Practice will be the best thing because without the skill no gun save the harrier will be worth a damn.

REVENANT. No ramp up. Needs an accuracy kit, and stabilization. Natural choice is Turian Soldier, but I prefer Destroyer. Both do fine, and TSol gets the most out of the gun. I like it for full Rambo mode. Destroyer, Revenant with Extended Mag and HVB, using Warp or Incendiary Ammo. Revenant.

I'd suggest a shotgun with a smart choke: Claymore, Wraith, Raider. If you're using a character with an accuracy boost (Hunter Mode, Marksman) it'll give you even more range.
If you want to go assault rifle, Lancer? Spitfire, though that's got a ramp up and it's terrible.
Or, you can pair the Typhoon with the stagger-proof Destroyer so you don't have to worry about continuously having to ramp up.

The Typhoon is not suitable for CQC. If you are frequently getting close enough to be staggered by Marauder elbows, I would suggest a Claymore instead. Blowing off heads in one shot is extremely cathartic.

IIRC, when I had a few games on your host, you were playing flamerless geth trooper and were mostly in hard cover and sometimes trying to tank things like banshees on ramps. IMVHO, this worked reasonably well but might not be the best way. If you equip drill ammo, you can just wallhack and all your stagger problems are solved. I think, you were using AP III ammo and that does not have enough depth. AP IV might work but IMO, drill III is the best you can equip and add HVB on top of that for more penetration. Hunter mode makes it stable enough so you don't need hard cover and can just move around freely. Depending on map, you can even skip cyclonics or shield power cells and go for stabilization mod for more headshots through walls.

Fire up your Lancer with your HVB and Extended mag and some decent ammo, like incendiary.

The Typhoon is a bit of a niche gun, it mainly works on a few kits. The N7 Destroyer is the most obvious choice but it also works quite well on kits with stability and/or rate of fire bonuses that don't rely to much on power usage, Turians (especially the Tsent, Tsol and TGI or solid choices).

It is hilariously bad, but if you run around with DM on, in full Bro Mode, with the extended clip you just never stop shooting. Spray the world with Revenant, and it will succomb.
Plus, when I play it, I usually get on mic and regularly shout "REVENANT" as if I were Kirk talking Khan. It adds to the excitement.

The Typhoon itself works great on the Krogan Shaman, for example. He isn't that easily staggered and can withstand a lot of fire, allowing you to sustain fire yourself. Typhoon Krogan ShamanOtherwise, I'd also vote for something like PPR, Revenant, Lancer or a precise shotgun with smart choke (Claymore, Raider, Geth SG).

Harrier, lancer for that playstyle if you like ARs Talon, arc pistol are some all purpose pistols that are awesome. Arc pistol does have a charge up. Claymore, wraith, graal, etc all good shotguns

There is no replacement for the Brophoon.
However, there is a solution to your problem and it's called N7 "Hahaha try to stagger me again" Destroyer.

I haven't played the destroyer much, but lately I like him 06666 with no DM. The missile is much fun, and I don't like no-dodge and slow run. Is the Destroyer stagger-immune even with no DM, or is that a feature of DM?

Spitfire is similar but much cuter, tickly even.
If you want easy mode, go 60666 KroSent with Spudfrier AP mod + HVB Warp Ammo, Claymore HVB (sidearm lol), Grenade Gear.
It is boring, but as long as you avoid sync-killers, you will never die and you will kill all the things.
Spitfire is surprisingly effective against Phantoms.

But in all seriousness, if you wanna feel da real powah of the Brophoon you should try it in a DM Destroyer. They're like, made for each other. Literally! XD
It takes for a slightly different play style than usual I guess, but it's not hard to adapt. Also, bring that adrenaline module with you and you're not too slow.
