Patch 1.09 introduced "some" new weapon mods. How do I unlock these? They don't drop by buying packs.

Only with mfunds from item store I thought it's probably that. I rather save up and buy UR character or weapon (which ever is on rotation) for 960 mission funds.

Unless you have already unlocked everything (not completed full manifest, just unlocked everything), I would save those Missions Funds for UR unlocks and Equipment. Rares, you can get plenty from Premium packs or from Expert packs. But a 100% drop you can't get bar from that occasional Apex Pack. So best to save for those.
For the mods, you can do just as well with the normal ones until you gain better weapons and character kit unlocks. Once you reach a certain stage, you will know when you go for the weapon mods.

As mentioned, only with Mission Funds. But...
I don't consider virtually any of the new "compromised" (get one thing, lose another) to be worth it. The exception are the AR and pistol targeting (without scope) mods. Sure, some of the others will be superior on a few builds. But not on most compared to the "vanilla" I already have. And it is always RNG.
If I knew they were going to do this, I would have bought a lot more UC and Rare original weapon mods with my MF. Now, I'm just accruing them. I have way more than enough for the remaining equipment (unless they add more). So what to buy? Either uber-expensive UR's or rare weapons. Sure, I can get the latter with Expert/Premium packs. But for us non-Platinum players, why not get them quicker?

Lately, the store equipment hasn't been that useful imo; I'd rather stick to damage % gear. So, yeah, this is what I've been doing. My hope is to get some actual N7 weapons that I don't have yet; Piranha, Shorty, Black Widow off the top of my head. My last three N7 weapon unlocks were ALL Kishock's, too

If you buy item mods from the item store, it might give you normal weapon mods of that rarity if they are not maxed.

Probably better to keep some more saved up though... As long as they keep adding new crap every week to the item store, there will be items you can only buy with mission funds. Also, its time/price. 960MFs, how long did it take you to save them? That vs 100K-1M + rares and consumables? It took me almost 2 weeks to save 960MF I bought it one time and afterward felt like the biggest idiot of all time.

The silliest part about the loot progression other than its absurd pool size is the way it is unlocked: Characters first, Weapons second, Weapon Mods last. Thus you won't be unlocking Weapon Mods of a given rarity tier regularly until your Characters as well as Weapons of that rarity tier are fully maxed. It is goes without saying that this is a very a silly system that makes the game unwelcoming to any player other than the hardcore ones.

I have been using Premium packs and maxed out all of my standard Rare weapon mods to X last night; I don't have any Rare Weapons to X What seems to actually be the case, is that if I bought EXPERT packs, the chances of getting RARE weapon mods are slim. This is where the Character --> Weapon --> Mod seems to come into play.

At the moment though, (at least in my item store...) I can't buy any of the +/- stat weapon mods, and haven't been able to for past 2-3? weeks, which basically means they would be released in stages. So unless you want absolutely no new weapon mods (even though they suck, some are worth it) there is no reason you should ever spend 960MF on UR item. Even without mods, 906MF is WAAAAAY to much. I'd rather just play 10 platinums and get 100% or more URs that way.

They definitely never preferred standard ones, they were just included in the pool. I guess I can try it again whenever uncommon mods come back.

The few rare ones I bought, I got the +/- variety I think I had it mixed up in my head, though; so you're likely correct. I just know they don't come in the standard crates in the store; only with MF funds.

Just wanted to follow up and confirm that you are correct. I got a standard, uncommon weapon mod from the store last night Thanks for following up. And yeah, I spent 1,000 MF, and among them was sniper receiver, shotgun receiver, and I think a basic clip mod for something.
