Let's be honest, the Ascendant is not a great enemy in the first place, while this could be said about many other types of enemies in this game, partly due to poor a.i. and partly due to bad design, the Ascendant is among the worst of them because of the particularly annoying mechanics.
Now coupled with the off-host headshot bug, Ascendants are 100x worse, more often than not, shooting the orb while playing off host just inflicts normal damage, even after the orb explodes, shooting the head would once again only result in bodyshot damage, and in turn this will make the Ascendant survive long enough so it brings out another orb, it's one of the most rage inducing scenarios I've had in any MP games. Again it's not a "shitty host" problem, truth is I used to play ME3MP with the very same people and had absolutely no problem.
Seriously, if BioWare can never fix the netcode issue (and even denied its existence), can they remove Ascendants from MEAMP? I'm just tired of shooting those bugged off host orbs.

Yup, since 1.09 ascendants seem a bit more buggy to me. Anecdotal of course, but it feels like now quite lot of the time when I take out the orb off host, even without cobras, the orb still keeps orbiting and I can't damage the ascendant. Also at that point the ascendant is frozen in a pose and I have no idea if it's firing it's shield buster or charging it's orb until I take damage. It's always been an issue with cobraing an ascendant but now it's happening even with gunfire.
Even on good hosts with little discernible lag. The same hosts I played with before, with the same internet. But yeah, netcode isn't a thing so fuck me, right?
Edit: A slightly tangential rant, there. My salt levels are high...

This is something that should either be shown with video, or proven to be working as intended. I have also noticed a few times shooting an orb and not seeing the orange "X." Which would, and does mean that either the orb isn't 100% weak point (as in the sides of the orb aren't weakpoint) or that the "off host" issue is bigger than bioware makes it out.
Need Video though....

Need Video though.... But to who you want to show this video proof? If you meant players, I believe anyone who played MEAMP off host more than 10 hrs has experienced the said issue, to varied degrees. If you meant BioWare, they'll just call it a "conspiracy" even after watching it. There is, actually a video showing off-host bugs in the Billy Twitch thread, irrc. Also this is not some mystery unsolved, the "bullet sponge orb" scenario is apparently related to off host headshot bug (because the orb is considered a weak spot), which will never get a fix from BioWare according to Billy. The "destroyed orb doesn't disappear" thing is the same zombie bug (dead enemies with empty health bars still standing & moving) introduced with DAIMP, they haven't fixed this one with almost 3 years passed, they probably won't fix it in the future, either. I'd rather wish they just remove Ascendants altogether from MP, which seems to be a more "practical" solution compared to "fixing netcode"

I'm pretty sure Billy was not employed by BW when he made the netcode/offhost headshot comments. That was on his personal stream in the middle of July, and we found out later he had left at the beginning of the month.
Might give a glimpse of what BW is thinking, or it may not as he's said incorrect things before. We should follow the request back up with someone who still works at BW - Fernando or bastiaan or someone similar.

He talks fast, out of both sides of his mouth, at the same time. For a guy that used to do QA and was a playtester, his knowledge of how the game played in the wild was astonishly poor. Producers. Yuck.

Yuck. Yeah, I agree. But given the situation it's hard to tell if he was just talking out of his ass or repeating something he heard from the devs (and it may not have been current - he had been gone for a bit by then and was probably transitioning even earlier than that - two weeks' notice and whatnot).

This happened back in 1.07 and I'm not sure what caused the Ascendant's Orb health bar to completely disappear.

Well, he does not have sync kills now, so you can try again and again and then some more. Actually, the situation is not that bad with some rapid fire weapons. Even I was able to pull it of in quite a laggy game with PAW. It was gold though, just took some time. But yes, lag can cut the time when he is vulnerable almost down to zero. They just should patch him and make him vulnerable a bit longer before he can recast the orb. Or make the orb impossible to reappear once it is gone, or recast it limited number of times, like 4 or 5, IDK, whatever works.

Well, in fact I exactly know, because I am used to fight the Ascendant with the fucking peashooters and wet noodle powers they gave us at release.

I think it's a good advice for every game host: If you are hosting and fighting Kett, please make the Ascendants your primary target, for the team! Because if you don't, your teammates will probably have a bad time guessing where the orb is.
