He saved it by going by the numbers and making a somewhat efficient patchwork solution, but his ideas are tired, done before, and for something that was still cooked up in 18 months after all, (many games have this time-box) it's not all that impressive to see the result imo even if the project was going haywire before. My concern here is that he's involved in the movie. He thinks he's some kind of master of Mass Effect and I am sure his passion is genuine but we all know Drew K and L'Etoile were the true masterminds of the fiction. This guy was only good when he was adding tidbits to the big guys's work, like certain striking characters or batarians and let's not forget that the entirety of Mass Effect 3 was a piece of crap. He should not be one of the primary people involved in the movie SMH. "Don't Worry, everything is gonna be cool"

Drew K.'s just as fond of Rule of Cool as Super Mac. Maybe a bit better at papering over the gaps in logic, though.

Dismissing this as just part of your ongoing vendetta against Mac Walters, OP. For one thing, you don't know exactly how bad a mess the game was in when Mac took over. You don't know what sort of budget Mac had to work with (i.e. how many people and how much time from each of them) he could devote to fixing things. He was obviously given a hard deadline by EA to get the game out before the end of March (no further extension) and the project most likely just ran out of time and EA, unwisely, forced it's release. Story-wise - You still don't know how much the story was actually changed by Mac and how much is really Schlerf's writing. In short, you're still just in no position to make any sort of logical assessment. You, however, habitually spin everthing about ME to be Mac's fault... talk about tired ideas.
