No More Patches/Content for MEA (Single Player)

Bioware are now developing a new IP entirely focused on multiplayer. All previous games have had DLC, but Bioware was much more focused on single player then than they are now. You've got the EA survey asking about multiplayer, and despite the fact that the Montreal team was disbanded the MP team was kept intact. They are clearly prioritizing MP.

The Benefactor, the Remnant and the Kett are much bigger storylines than the Quarian Ark, they are intended to be sequel hooks since they can't be simply solved in a DLC unless it's a huge one.

To put it another way, there's just no way DLC was cancelled halfway through development just because of MEA's reception, that would be wasted money. So SP DLC was never planned. And yet you have the Quarian Ark tease in the game. So they did plan to have something Quarian related. Plus all further teases about the Quarian Ark so far have been in MP briefings. You also have the batarian who was introduced in MP but not SP and his lore explained in a blog post. It's not a huge stretch to imagine the same was planned to happen with the Quarians and their lore will be handled in novels and comics.

And for what it's worth, Jason Schreier's sources mention that no DLC was planned, not that it was cancelled.

DLC is a huge part of business now, but MP is FAR bigger. I expect the MP team will announce a Quarian multiplayer addition when the novel comes out. They are teasing an MP announcement in the blog post and plans for N7 day.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if MEA was always intended as a test drive for a MP driven game, to prepare people for Anthem.
