Is a grenade attack or mine attack considered an explosion? Or do you have to get some kind of combo explosions with flak or concussive shot or sumpin? This is for the combat # of explosions objective. I easily wracked up biotic and tech ones long ago as i thought but i noticed I still have combat ones let to do.

I got the combat explosions easily mostly using CS and priming ammo, sometimes hooking up with an engineer to set off combos.
Edit: Engineers, not bios

But really .... there are detonating combat powers, but no priming ones (and the type of explosion is counted after priming power). Or did I miss something?

So I want to equip cryo ammo or perhaps have my batarian frost someone and then hammer em with concussive shot?

So I want to equip cryo ammo or perhaps have my batarian frost someone and then hammer em with concussive shot? Or Incendiary ammo, that'll work just fine: I completed my Combat Detonation Challenge that way. It's quite simple, really: - Biotic primers give Biotic Detonations
- Electrical primers give Tech Detonations
- Cryo and Fire primers give Combat Detonations
That's it...

No tech primers from frost or fire? Nope, those are Combat primers... Edit: in the case of the Batscrapper, his punch will of course do the job quite nicely (after Snap Freeze) as well for Combat Detonations.

I'll have more objective point questions later one i am sure as some of these abilities sit is tough to know how they get points. Such as shield boost and barricade.

I'll have more objective point questions later one i am sure as some of these abilities sit is tough to know how they get points. Such as shield boost and barricade. Barricade will give you Challenge points with the electric evo. Shield boost is a matter of 1) long breath or 2) spamming it on the Tutorial Mission. Just remember it'll give an additional 20 Assist Points per team mate affected. This also goes for Tech Constructs, so the Angaran whatchacallum is good for that...

Cryo and Fire splosions are both Combat Detonations... Cryo, Fire, and Electricity are all Tech powers though. The only effective way to finish the Combat Detonations challenge is detonating everything with Concussive Shot. Though the Trip Mine 6A Evo can detonate too, it's far less reliable.

The only emooffective way to finish the Combat Detonations challenge is detonating everything with Concussive Shot. Though the Trip Mine 6A Evo can detonate too, it's far less reliable. They may well be, yet fire and ice give Combat Detonations. Point also remains that this game's detonations are appropriated by the primer, not the detonator. So, if it's Combat Detonations you're after, you can detonate biotics and tech with Concussive Shot all you want but it won't get you any nearer to your goal. You need fire or ice for that...

My sincere apologies Scathane, but you got it mixed up. Anything detonated by a Combat Power counts towards the Combat Detonations challenge. Which is basically Concussive Shot. It has always been that way in MEA, and that certainly didn't change. So yes, fire and ice give combat detonations, with Concussive Shot as the detonator. Whatever the in-game message is (Fire, Cryo, Tech or Biotic combo, which ARE designated by the primer), it has nothing to do which challenge you're getting the detonation for.

lennybusker wrote a very nice combo guide, here: bsn.boards.net/post/667574/threadIt's a little outdated now but the core of it is still true. Of note: As Transcended One states this is for the combos themselves. For some reason the Challenges are the exact opposite. (I suspect shoddy engineering practices; i.e., two different methods written by two different people with no coordination.)

FWIW -- don't think Bioware is the only company with shoddy engineering practices that lead to nonsensical, literally opposite effects sometimes. For example today I overheard this conversation among developers of the website for a major company that you have definitely heard of.
(paraphrased)
Dev 1: I thought that [something about products in a person's cart; I'm being deliberately vague] was checked upon any page load?
Dev 2: No, we decided that was too much overhead. It is only checked when they go to buy.
Dev 3: Wait, are you sure? Because when Dev 1 and I talked to [business stakeholder] she said it should be checked upon page load.
Dev 2: "Should be" or "is"?
Dev 3: Uhh... I'm not sure.
Dev 1: Let's look at the code.
They are still at it BTW. The code is apparently such a mess no one is sure what it does. LOL! But really crying inside.

Finished up barricade last night, combat explosions will take a while. I had I thought what was a very good game with the batarian and only got 14 i think. I'll have to solo a bit i suppose (which i hate).
Backlash will take a long while as well. I think i am about half way there. Some enemies 'smartly' will not shoot at you until the thing ends. Also I think it is harsh that you get staggered when the shield break, also the nuisance units play havok as they knock you out of your backlash.
The thing I didn't realize was how phenomenal that power is vs the ascendant ball of energy blast, holy crap, deflect that ball back into them and it does major damage.

Angara insurgent with a fire turret and detonating mines work nice. Toss turret, wait for it to burn something, launch a mine. By the time it gets activated, the target is primed. Then Boom. Rinse and repeat.
Or slap fire/cryo/disruptor on a fast firing weapon, use a class with concussive shot. As soon as it's primed, use CS. It won't take too long compared to some other challenges, like shield boost or backlash. I still have to complete barricade, shield boost, stealth grid and snap freeze for the gold mastery in combat/tech. I'll get there.

The fun thing about Backlash, even though it's made out of glass on Platinum, it still reflects those orbs, without breaking. It's pretty much useless against Observers and Annoyingted on Plats unfortunately...
