Waaaaaaay before bacon became an Internet meme, I used to talk with my Jewish friends about craving it. (Bacon is not kosher and therefor if you are a religious Jew, you're not supposed to eat it.) One guy said:
"Bacon is delicious. Would God really want to deny it to his chosen people?"
I found this argument so compelling that I have eaten bacon ever since then, guilt free.

Actually the theory that certain non-kosher foods are non-kosher because they are unsafe to eat or couldn't be prepared safely in ancient times, has been pretty much debunked. It's a religious thing. Who knows why the ancient Jews did it? Maybe it really was because God told them to. |
