Not sure what the "special occasion" is or if there is anything to celebrate at all, but that mission hard crashes PS4s every single time.
Not a single person I've talked to is able to complete wave 3. If you haven't tried the mission yet, I am not going to spoil to you what happens on that wave. Just give it a try but be warned that your console will most likely crash.
This is just plain trolling IMHO. I hope we get a new kit at least this week...

There have been some people who successfully completed it, but it requires a very specific strategy to be successful (hint: it involves rockets) or a lot of luck (or most likely both.)
This one's confusing, because they seem to be trying to use it as a positive PR event. However, the idea to troll your players with a mission that has a critical CTD that can brick your system is a very bad one, and whoever came up with it should face some pretty serious consequences.
They'd better hope people's "recovery process" doesn't fail after a few of these CTDs, or I suspect the PR damage will be overwhelming. I'm not sure why they've left it up this long, given the risks. It seems unprofessional.
