Deaths for all the companions:
As Lexi gets near to figuring out how to reverse exaltation, she gets exalted herself. Gil: An improvement he makes is so experimental, it blows up. But the improvement ensures the enemies destruction. Suvi: Insists on joining the team. Bullet to the spine. Depending on Lexi's status, she's either paralyzed from the waste down, or dies. Cora: Good ol' soldier way, going on a suicide mission Peebee: Dehydrates to death the next time she goes in and gets trapped without a plan. Jaal: Hmmmm. Trusts someone he shouldn't have. Outright murder. To worsen human/angaran relations. This is after the Moshae is assasinated. Liam: His jet pack fails. Vetra: The final shady deal needed to set them up for life. mission fails. Drack: Dies to save Salarians. Maybe even Tann.

I think Asari were genderless? They are mono-gendered, not genderless, though apparently MEA does away with that in ambient dialogue for some bizarre reason.

You know I don't read codex, so maybe this is a dumb question, but I wonder if there didn't used to be two genders, and then they Ascended to a higher plane of mating.

I think Asari were genderless? Sex =/= Gender All the asari have one sex: they are all biologically female. As for gender, MEA retconned it to where most identify as female but a few identify as men or neutral. So since Avela is attracted only to males, she would not be interested in asari.

I'm sure it's in the codex too but you get it straight from the asari's mouth early on if you ask her about her people.

phoray It would be cool if Jaal experiences a "reincarnation" similar to Zorai (sage on Havarl) after he dies. At first he'll feel confused when he rebirths in a female Angarran body but eventually he embraces it. Zorai was reminded of who she was with the gauntlet, so we can do the same with Jaal's monocle. As for Liam's death I'm thinking he forgets to diffuse the charge on his overclocked omni blades... they blow up while he's wearing them. Kaboom. Oh, so it turns out he wasn't kidding about that sofa.

There might be something that'll contradict my idea... Jaal is not young... at least that's what he says when we talk to him. We know he had at least one past relationship with Allia, an Angaran, so maybe there was a child? Even if there is a child that is unknown to us, we don't know how old they are or how fast they can mature to adulthood (could it be that they're already an adult). Also does reincarnation skip certain generations...? And many more questions, etc.

Zorai wasn't his family blood- but I believed she must have died at least a few generations before to have her gender remembered as the opposite. Even if Jaal died at the end of Mass Effect Andromeda and a baby angaran was born the next day with his "soul" among his family pod (as I believe you actually have to be bio related for this to work) it would still be 16-18 human years before he could rejoin the team and be interesting at all.

The relationship with Allia never went anywhere for reasons he explained but she was still his first love. It could be that I took what he said too literally, "We were young. I was young." He probably meant 'naive'. Does he specify what age he was - in banter - when Allia "seduced" him? On Voeld, they said they use children as runners, it could be that we don't see any because the devs didn't create a model for them. Or it could be similar to Turian physiology, where kids/teens are as large as adults. Also I think it was mentioned somewhere that Jaal joined the Resistance when he was 16 yrs old, same as his granny, so either they were desperate and recruited kids/teens or Angarans grow up faster. That's my first time hearing that. Is it from banter or a mission? When you think about the Angaran reincarnation, Tavos didn't know that he was (or has a part of) Zorai. Could it be that there were previous relatives that were unknowingly carrying her soul? It would be pretty miraculous if it skipped generations and just conveniently occured when Ryder came along, you know?

I don't recall him specifying his exact age when he was in love in Allia, but it was before he was in the Resistance so probably in his young teen years. His love life is essentially this: His first love was Allia, whom he kissed but later things didn't work out and she married his brother. Then later he had a crush on Avela, though it was one-sided since she never noticed it. And then finally there is Ryder. There may be others in there, but those are the only three we know.

I'm just noticing this thread, despite being tagged. It was started during my most recent BSN-hiatus. I can't keep track of all of the questions, so I'll just spitball a few.
* Drack is too cool to die. If he did, though, he should save an entire colony or dramatically cripple the kett in some fashion. Only an epic end would do for him. The idea of him dying comfortably, at peace and surrounded by family is too human and too sad. * There can never be another David Edward Anderson. Alec Ryder (actual dad) would've been this game's closest thing, but he sadly died so quickly. * Gil, likely working with some combination of SAM, Kallo, PeeBee, Suvi and the science team, would create a means to bypass and/or cope with the Scourge. Being able to employ jardaan tech without attracting the Scourge seems likely to be important very soon.
As much as I like the entire crew, I think some of them could/should move on in a sequel.
* Suvi takes that job with he science team. She's nice, but co Llewelyn unessential aboard Tempest. * Cora could lead her own team, though I'd like to see her remain aboard Tempest. * Drack could take on some important role for his people, though I'd like to see him remain aboard Tempest. * Vetra could go do something else with her sister. I like her mechanically, but wouldn't miss her character much if she left. * Jaal could become an important figure among his people; but I'd like to see him remain aboard Tempest. He should get a mechanical respec. Melee-sniper doesn't work for me. * PeeBee could become a more legitimate scientist, working for the Initiative, perhaps. That would definitely be a big change, but maybe something she'd do if given some autonomy and the opportunity to be first on the scene. I'm neutral on her return. I don't find her that mechanically useful, nor am I particularly attached to her.
* Gil belongs aboard Tempest. * Kallo belongs aboard Tempest, perhaps more than anyone. * Liam should remain aboard Tempest. He needs to mature and learn how to think before acting. I'd like to see him evolve into a real leader, in the long term. He has heart. Now, he needs to learn to use his head. * Lexi should probably stay, since replacing her seems utterly pointless. She's likable enough. She'd better not be the leader of a clone army in the sequel. Unique faces, please.
Interesting new characters could include a batarian warrior to replace Vetra. The batarian could be a techie, sentinel or pure soldier. I don't care, as long as he's tough and gives us a better look at the batarian psyche. I'd like to see a badass salarian, too-- someone less science-oriented and more military. A salarian infiltrator-type always comes to mind. If we must have a turian aboard, how about a male turian biotic? Nyreen was a cool concept that was mostly wasted on a temporary ally. A biotic turian, given the species' strange relationship with biotics, could be interesting.

Element Zero Hanako Ikezawa I'd prefer they not, for a couple reasons. One, I like Ryder as they are rather than a Shepard 2.0 and it's not like we can't do both. Two, part of Cora's character arc is her accepting and finding a place as your second.

My understanding of her arc was that she would have made a terrible #1 if she'd gotten teh job when Alec Ryder died. Getting over that anger and realizing that. And then accepting the #2 position gracefully with Ryder as #1. not that she preferred being #2 forever and ever.

I think Cora leading her own team, eventually, is inevitable. She's too talented and too well trained to forever remain in her current assignment. She also has seen firsthand Ryder's entire experience. That can't be taught in a classroom. The Initiative expanding the Pathfinders' role and numbers seems like a logical development. If and when that happens, Cora would be at the head of a list of potential new Pathfunders.
