multiplayer is dead, everyone is on Destiny 2/MVCI

I haven't had any trouble finding a lobby, personally, with the exception of one night last week during the middle of the week. The problem I have had is finding a lobby that's not unplayably laggy.

I literally quit the first three lobbies I joined last night within the first 2 waves because I was lagging so badly that abilities sometimes wouldn't activate at all for 5-10 seconds at a time and I was teleporting back to positions I'd left upwards of 20 seconds earlier.

My best guess is that I'm simply getting connected to hosts located farther away as the player population contracts, but I played for months with friends on both coasts and in Canada, and even one in western Europe, with relatively few problems, so that doesn't seem to fully explain the problem unless I'm almost exclusively seeing European hosts now. Makes me wonder if the adjustments they made circa 1.05 that significantly lessened the lag entailed devoting more resources to the game, and they've since been re-tasked. I don't know network technologies well enough for that to be much better than a wild guess though.
