There technically is, you could always have relationship with multiple people or stop the romance.
Unless you mean having your companion start an additional relationship with someone without the protagonist's agency, it's not far fetched as companions sometimes have relationship with others but only if the protagonist isn't in a relationship with them.
But that would mean more writing and animations and dialogue and etc. to a game that romance is optional, and it's not the same as adding gay relationship because you could use all the same animations and cutscenes and only change the gender in the dialogue.

I'd say a romance in which the other participant will refuse to have sexual contact with you while bringing over her "friend" whom they have sex with while you hold her/his hand and then raise their kids. Sounds appropriately SJW. Perhaps print out a few My wife's son shirts to go with it. 

Go to youtube and look up SJW and mass effect. Why write the old stiff lver and over again. SJW pandering led to the death of the franchise
