I liked armour crafting in DAI but in da4 I'd like if instead of having bonuses based both on material tier and schematic tier they just do away with schematic tiers and have the stats based entirely on materials used to craft it. That way I can pick whichever one I like the look of instead of feeling like I have to use a tier 4 when I think a tier 3 looks better etc. Then have more unique styles instead of having a slightly different variation on the same one for each tier. Yeah, I'd definitely like to see them divorce crafted armor & weapon designs from stats as well. I vaguely remember Laidlaw explaining how they wanted crafting to still allow a sense of progression in looks and stats. I would guess that was the reason behi d the tiered schematics. Not that I agree with that reasoning, but maybe a good compromise would be to make the better tiered materials result in more durable looking armor. Maybe that shader tech you posted could help?

One thing that I think would be a cool addition to the customization would be choosing a sigil. The customized armors in DAI had Inquisition symbols. Imagine you could swap that out for a Dalish symbol. Or Orzammar, Orlais, Ferelden, Tevinter, Templar, Grey Warden, Chantry, etc.

Basically whats been said above, take class restriction away, an hopeully they sorted the condom look that came with a no bad amount off hats in DA:I that tbh ruined the hat, looks wise armour has got better but more is always welcome, The Skin that stalks set from Trespasser dlc i would like to see more of but earlier in the game, if they could incorporate set bonuses into crafting an allow the schematic to stay relevant by the grade of crafting material used that be awesome, the tier system for schematics in DA:I was ok but it wasnt great, i personally preferred the look of some of the t1 armour to the t4, BioWare seem to have a flap fetish that why i prefer some of the t1 schematics.

I just hope we go back to DA:O in that we can completely change everything on our companions equipment.
Bioware need to put the traditional RPG elements back into their games.
(Also being able to duel wield 1 handed weapons as a warrior would be appreciated)

Question - if the job of the Templar Order is to deal with primarily magical threats, why are they dressed in full plate? Well, they fight demons more often than mages (or at least they should) Demons use swords (revenants), they also may have claws and teeth (abominations, corpses, etc)

Not that I agree with that reasoning, but maybe a good compromise would be to make the better tiered materials result in more durable looking armor. Maybe that shader tech you posted could help? There's certainly a number of different approaches they could take. They could base it all off of materials, if they wanted to simplify it. They could also offer ways to upgrade low tier schematics into higher level ones. Tinting, as it exists now, customizes gear pretty well, though if there's any additional shader magic that'd give gear that little extra something - sure! To keep a sense of progression, gear designs (if we're separating designs from stats) could be tiered as well. The fancier/elaborate-looking gear designs could be on a higher tier than the more basic-appearing designs, even though it's just cosmetic in the end. You'd then select your stat schematic, and apply the appearance you wanted to the piece. You might just have to wait until late game before you could acquire the ultra-elaborate Tier 4 Archon, Ancient Elven, or Arishok designs. I had a thread a while back on weapon design, textures & detailing ideas: bsn.boards.net/thread/4650/weapon-design-detailing-ideasI'd love to see some interesting pattern-welding and other design elements introduced to the weapons... And I'd also like to see interesting hats return in the game. But only if they can sort out the issues with integrating it properly with the character's head/hair (and no more weird leather flaps ).

I generally liked what was present in DAI, but would like to see more variation of styles. I'd also like to see some class crossover...mages and rogues being able to use both light and medium armor with recharge penalties and bonuses respectively; warriors being able to swap into medium for a recharge bonus. Benefits of protection remain the same.

War axe and chainmail with iron helmet, just what a warrior need, not that fancy stuff that rich knights wear. War is not pretty and it's going to get messy.

Add penalties depending on the armor and voila, no one's stuck in ugly duds. I'd really like to be able to upgrade a certain items stats rather than having to discard things i like the look of. Definitely. On my most recent playthrough I ran around the entire game in Stone-Bear Armor just because I liked the look of it and thought it worked for that character. But it gets pretty weaksauce pretty fast.

That "fancy stuff" is pretty good at keeping your guts from getting sliced open or your head getting split, friend 😉😋 Mail provides very, very good protection (thought not as good as plate.) Sword strikes are ineffective against mail, you could swing all day and nothing would happen. Because of the flexibility of mail though, it's quite easy to break the bones underneath because it doesn't stop the impact of a blow. Like plate, people used thinly tapered swords to bypass the protections, so basically if the sword is gradually tapered and reduces to a thin enough point that it can get through the rings, there may be a chance to force them open. But mail is very good, and it wouldn't have been used so widely for so long if it wasn't. The diversity of weapons in Europe was pretty much brought about because Europe had excellent armour (compared with countries like Japan that had crappy armour and so people just used a katana.) Butted chain mail is really weak though (very easy for the rings to be pulled apart or something thrust through,) and that's part of where all the misconceptions come from. If chain mail isn't riveted, it's not chain mail xD Butted was never made in history, only made for reenactments but people keep doing tests against butted mail and go "oh wow, looks pretty weak to me" Butted: Riveted:

If they keep the tier system, I want them to at least make the tier 3 and 4 weapons and armor look suitably impressive.
If I start as a warrior looking like a common soldier, then I want to look like a legendary knight by the end.
If I start as a rogue looking like a petty thief, then I want to look like a badass ranger with a hood and maybe even a cloak by the end.
If I start as a mage looking like a disreputable apostate, then I want to look like a mighty archmage by the end.

Although I generally prefer more mail based armour, I would like to see more plate than DA:I had. However I'd rather BW made it look a bit more like historical late medieval/renaissance plate armour than go back to the stuff we had in earlier games - DA's plate is far from the worst I've seen in games, but there's definitely room for improvement, particularly getting rid of the oversided shoulderpads that cropped up on most massive armour (and random other stuff like The Skin That... gear in DA:I).
I hope they stick with DA:I's mage outfits though. It might be a fantasy trope, but even if you're a hugely powerful wizard, going into battle waering a dress or bathrobe is just dumb.

No ugly PJs at home base anymore I wouldn't mind if we had more variety in everyday clothing. More individual looking armors because the ones in Inquisition looked kinda all the same to me. Besides, bring back robes and give us a greater variety on race-specific armors as there only so few of them. We had like only two for the Qunari

Of course. More variety. Spaulders and Pauldrons and MOAR capes please. I don't mind if they bring back the armor crafting system from DAI but it shouldn't cost materials to change tint, no matter how cheap it is.

Bikini chain armor a la WoW plsI just want the grey wardens armor and i'll be a happy man. Personally, I'd love to see outfits that have the design of the warden amours, but without the warden heraldry. In both DA2 and DA:I, I really liked the appearance of the warden gear, it was among the best in the games, but given that my character wasn't a warden, it didn't make much sense with warden symbols all over my armour...

I was resistant to the idea of companion armour after ME and DA2 but companions having a basic outfit with craftable or RNG upgrades worked really well. The only change I'd make there is that common armour should change type depending on the materials used to craft it rather than the character's class.
It the pc's armour that really needs an overall, as the toolset is unlikely to ever return DA should just module all the armour, including the npc stuff, and let us mix and match. Also retint.
