Well, ME3MP and MEAMP gives us a chance to buy Points = Casino Chips to spend on percentages = Roulette.... which is gambling in my opinion.

Good luck with that in a MP focussed game. If you want to alter design decisions you don't like - even if it is just for your SP experience - you better sharpen your hacking skills.

Highlights of the bill:
(1) whether games and apps containing loot box mechanics are considered gambling under Washington law. (2) whether these mechanics belong in games and apps. (3) whether minors should have such ready access to games and apps that do feature loot boxes. (4) the "lack of disclosure and transparency with respect to the odds of receiving each type of virtual item.

🌸 The key thing for any type of legislation and I think all these politicians already know it is that does it meet the legal definition of gambling? Anything if they want to tie the word gambling to it is pointless if it doesn't then. If they want to make something special that pertains specifically to loot boxes then I think it would also be challenged for companies would want to know why having a very rare item in something like a pack of Magic Cards is okay or other promotions where there is a prize. Out of those four highlights the only one I think they might be able to get changes for under current laws is the fourth and I don't think that is what the majority of the internet wants.

How amusing! www.polygon.com/2018/1/29/16930892/xbox-one-exclusive-games-analysis-microsoftRumors of acquisitions are a perennially favorite pastime in the game industry. But with Microsoft’s exclusives problem, married to its lagging behind PlayStation and its pot of gold, the gossip has intensified recently.
“Microsoft recognizes this as an important issue,” said Piers Harding-Rolls, director of research and analysis at IHS. “Hence, Phil Spencer’s comments about investing more in delivering first-party content.”
Microsoft has a cash pot of at least $130 billion, boosted by recent tax cuts that heavily favor large corporations. When you consider that the market capitalization of a company like Electronic Arts is around $35 billion, it looks like a handy war chest.
Some of the names being thrown around as possible acquisitions by Microsoft are, frankly, astounding, even unthinkable. But the fact that they are doing the rounds is instructive. The most recent one we heard (from a reliable source close to Microsoft) was, in fact, Electronic Arts. You thought it is bad now? Wait until Microsoft joins the decisions making circus!

Seeing as how nowdays more than half of all profits in AAA industy (read it in Sterling's voice) are coming from microtransaction, publishers will be fighting to the end for their lootboxes. If it'l come to that, they would even resolve to bribings. That piece of a pie is too big.

They would just re-brand lootboxes as something else, like Loot Sacks that look like a berlap sack or whatever. Even if they fail and these measures get passed, they'll find a way to keep these mechanics implemented, because god forbid these companies only make SOME of the money, and not Every Dollar In The Entire World.

They would just re-brand lootboxes as something else Freelancer Packs? If they show up in Anthem as Mongo Droppings (a "mongo" being one of the world's large, slow moving, and stupid ruminants -- think brontosaur crossed with a cow), we'll know that the Bioware devs added them under protest, in an act of pure passive aggression.

Considering the legislation is based around the gambling aspects I am sure they will find a way around it, while it may be illegal to sell items without any certainty for what you will get do you think the same can be said of RNG or EXP boosters? How about raid tokens that allow you to participate in the raids that allow you to grind for the gear? So many ways they could get around it, personally I am more worried about them trying to turn gaming into a Netflix type subscription service which to an extent is already happening, just hopefully they don't start doing "EA Access" exclusives or something and jack up the price per month.

The thing is they are already around the gambling laws at least the ones I have seen. The common threads I have seen from different reports is that you need to be either able to go broke without getting something and you always get something in these boxes even if it isn't what you want. The second common factor is that you can cash out and there isn't a way to sell the items you get from lootboxes unless you are playing a game designed to use the Steam Storefront. So I think they would have to go back and change those laws, but then many more industries would be impacted and I am not sure that is a road they want to travel. Right now under current laws I think the only thing they could really have the companies change is making sure they display the payout odds.

No, because they have video, that you refuse to watch, that shows how Ill-prepared the ESA is to defend their practices to a Senator who actually knows whats going on. But go ahead, keep your head in the sand and ignore anything that threatens you're world view.

And he called Battlefront II a "Star Wars Casino" after they had taken lootboxes out and acused them of targeting children when it's a PEGI 16 game. His whole spiel is "think of the children", which is weird as there are already laws in place that protect children regarding in-app purchases in most countries, if children go on a spending spree (which they can't if they are using a child accoutn whihc again most companies have) the parent can just ask for a refund and they'll get it. There was a thread on ResetEra the other day about a guy's 7 year old cousin spending £450 on Fortnite cus the uncle had left the credit card info on it and hadn't put any protections or put a child account, they rang Microsoft and it was automatically funded. Politicians keep using children as a reason against MTXs when they aren't the target audience, companies don't like children buying MTXs, it creates negative PR and they refund them. It's adults MTXs target.

Regardless, he actually is informed on the issue, and asks relevant questions that go beyond "Think of the Children" which by the way is a valid point, as the video indicates, since neither the ESRB nor PEGI put warning labels regarding MTXs or Lootboxes anywhere. the ESA rep pointed to ESRB as basically everything the industry needs to cover itself of liability. MTX are aimed at ANYONE they can get to use them, regardless of age. Make no mistake, they are under no obligation to refund money a child charges to a parents account everywhere. Also, Battlefront 2 was absolutely a Casino prior to Lootbox removal.

You ignored the point I made that there is laws?
