To be clear, he left in August, months ago. We didn’t see any signs of upheaval on the project at the time and he was a 17 year veteran, so his departure isn’t altogether unusual.
I’m not saying nothing is wrong, just that this isn’t necessarily a reason to be hitting the panic button.

I always wonder if other fan sites go completely off the deep end when someone working on a game leaves during development.

I don't suppose it is covered under "elaborate revenge fantasies" because people were angry about Andromeda? Besides he left all the way back in august. And since when did we start believing that games were made by one person anyway? Chances are that Anthem are in the last stages of development, and therefor it was a good time to leave before he was reassigned to a different project.

And since when did we start believing that games were made by one person anyway? Chances are that Anthem are in the last stages of development, and therefor it was a good time to leave before he was reassigned to a different project. I believe BioWare followers do believe one person can make or ruin a game, you can see that even during the development of Mass Effect 3 when I think it was the combat designer left after Mass Effect 2 and it meant that Mass Effect 3 would fail. The funny thing is when she took the role after for Mass Effect 2 people were then proclaiming her being in charge would ruin the game. Even with Andromeda people were upset when the "Senior Editor" I think that was her position left the industry and that was a forecasting of the problems with Andromeda and nobody even heard of her before that. I think it goes back beyond Andromeda for certain groups of people, yes Andromeda probably didn't help. If you go back and look at any of BioWare's games you will see that their most recent game seems to be the worst thing ever made and then after the next game is released it miraculously becomes better and people wish the new game was more like the prior one. I even saw that behavior when BioWare made Mass Effect 1 instead of a new Knights of the Old Republic game or Dragon Age: Origins instead of a new Baldur's Gate game. Edit: I was incorrect. Christina Norman left BioWare during the development of Mass Effect 3 to join Riot Games. When she took over for Mass Effect 2 is when people claimed she was bad for the position and blamed a lot of the combat short comings they saw in Mass Effect 2 purely on her.

People do leave companies all the time of course, but you have to admit it's odd. The departures of Aaron Flynn, Mike Laidlaw and now Steven Gilmour, all of whom are BioWare veterans and were there for many years, is a little worrying.

Deja vu? It seems we have seen something like this before here just recently and were told "There is nothing to worry about and it happens all the time in development". This being said by some of the same people saying it now.
I saw the story on another site where as expected, comments are favoring Anthems demise and here I figured I would see just the opposite and for the most part I was right. Not much middle ground.
I really don't care either way since I have no interest in Anthem. I have my own opinion based on what I know from a relative who works in the gaming industry and my own personal observations, but I think first of the year will answer some questions people have.

The industry average is ~5 years (4 years and something). These 3 persons did 3x that and it was pretty much their first workplace, I can easily see them wanting to see something else once they hit/get close to 40 years old... People only seems to care when it happens at BioWare too, last year Blizzard had 3 well known veterans leave the company and it barely made a ripple in its fandom from what I saw.

After 17 years he's a very experience individual. Maybe a competitor poached him. Regardless, Anthem development will keep on ticking.

I have my own opinion based on what I know from a relative who works in the gaming industry and my own personal observations, but I think first of the year will answer some questions people have. I still feel that way, for we don't know if those people leaving had any impact at all on Andromeda. Until someone can come to me and show how them leaving was directly related to the problems I experienced on Andromeda are related to those people I still have my doubts. Just because people leave doesn't mean the butterfly effect is happening. Personally you can even say the opposite is true as well with having he who shall not be named was allowed to stay on to the end ruined Andromeda for all we know both are equally true or not true. Its the same with Anthem. We don't know this guys reasoning it could be that he is starting a family and wants a job that actually pays well for his years of experience, from what I have experienced game development and software development salaries are on different ends of the spectrum. Now am I saying Anthem will be good and flawless? Of course not, but I am not going to go screaming "the sky is falling" because someone left BioWare.

Personally if I was him since we could be around the same age, I would be leaving the industry to software development or elsewhere that pays better.

Yeesh. Hopefully this isn't here we go again.
Animators in senior positions left during MEA, and we all saw how that turned out. And employees blamed part of the poor quality on failing to replace the animation employees that left.

When will we get some good news about this game? Heck, when will get some good news about BioWare? We’d have to get news at all first. This two month old bit of trivia doesn’t actually means anything on its own.
