I think the initial rollout, loot explosion, bugs, and lack of NEW content, is ultimately what killed the modes popularity. It's got redeeming qualities, and I've played it enough to know that I like the core gameplay. Just wish the game could have sat in the oven for another year so we'd be in a better position (and maybe had a beta).

I think you're missing out. You don't know if you don't try; and I tried SO hard to like MEA:MP. For weeks, I'd take a break of a few days, or weeks, and try few matches, but I'd get annoyed and frustrated; and even playing with friends, I just couldn't enjoy it. It's not a matter of I'm missing out really. *snip* Fair enough , but who said anything about playing the SP? I have one PC account, one xbox account and one ps3 account where I haven't touched the SP, it's MP all the way. It's a shame then that you'll never hate-surf, roar like a true krogan, hear a REAL asarigasm, disco-dance like a fury, or Drell roundhouse kick a banshee in the butt, or launch a geth trooper into next week with a huge hammer, while carrying a claymoar. And on PC it's not even like you have to grind for it (though in ME3 I prefer the grind because it's reasonably attainable and worthwhile). But if you're happy with MEA then stick with it Oh, and Re: DLC, all the MP maps are free, you don't even have to buy them.

Well, at least for someone like me, because I can’t play above Silver there, and there is no mission funds to get characters. I never even was able to unlock a Quarian after 100 hrs, because it’s all random and it takes forever to get 100K for boxes. But I have pretty much every char in Andromeda in half the time with the MFs.

BTW, Kenny Bania, I recall you once remarking that the FO-series carried one of the best (if not the best) soundtracks in gaming history. I also seem to remember you adding something to the extent of 'perhaps the FO:NV soundtrack to a lesser degree'. Please take into account that FO4 was the first and only FO I ever played but I just put on a FO:NV playlist on YouTube and my ears and brains are quite enjoying themselves, I can tell you... Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the NV soundtrack. I just prefer 3 and 4. It's all a matter of preference.

Then try to imagine how long it takes without all the MF. That was kinda my experience. But the bulk of the MFs comes from the dailies. And the dailies are super easy, and most of them can be solo'd in under 90 minutes. You do not need an App. In ME3MP there is no extra helping hand. MF is a godsend.

But the answer is in the game.
MultiPLAYER. Are you saying you never made one friend to goof around with? The moment I joined ye olde BSN, I found a group willing to teach me how to play on higher difficulties, and carry me when I struggled. Isn't it kinda the whole point of a place like this? To find likeminded people to help us git gud?
To me, MEA isn't fun enough to grind. I don't even need the credits in ME3 because its fun even with vanilla gear.

MEAMP is... decent.
Skill points locked behind extra Character cards of the same rarity may be the most obnoxious new 'feature'. Even the way-too-many gun unlocks don't bother me as much as that.

To find likeminded people to help us git gud? To me, MEA isn't fun enough to grind. I don't even need the credits in ME3 because its fun even with vanilla gear. I did play with a few very nice folks in MEA, and in ME3MP. But I also felt really, really good in MEA that the plain casual terribad old me, can pug Gold (and I actually could do it immediately after maxing out the Bronze stuff) and have comparable scores to the other folks, and that I can solo when needed. None of it was true in ME3MP. Once I got all the unlocks that were easy to do on Silver, I could not pug Gold in ME3MP because the difference in difficulty was very noticeable and exceeded my capability to adapt. In MEA, the transition from Silver to Gold was way easier, and Bronze characters with veteran bonuses performed admirably without no need for magic guns. In ME3MP I needed to through credits forever and ever for the guns to keep up, and could not pursue kits because of that. And I don't even like the guns that much, never could shoot well. But I had to buy guns, not to pursue a Quarian... Also that reload cancel mechanics and the one-shot kills just made the ME3MP game too hard for me. I am glad that MEA did away with those features. While the Smash Adept was great in the ME3MP, nothing there compared to the Asari Sentinel or vanilla Vanguard in MEA, or the plain Engineer... It's just all the characters are so much more effective in MEA.... Anyways, yeah, if MEA had the variety of ME3MP I'd be playing it. I really loved it... I am back to the old reliable SP games that offer no unpleasant surprises and heartbreaks like the MPs.

You don't need to reload cancel in me3. Its only effective and worthwhile for certain weapons.
Human adept armed with just an uncommon pistol can own in gold. So you can't say you can't play effectively with me3 characters. Vanilla characters at that. So I will disagree with you there.
And I'm not even that good.

Some parts good others bad.
The biggest errors the developers made was creating some game dynamics and the doing everything in their power to defeat those mechanics with other game play decisions.
- We want you to use our well built and much improved cover dynamic, but wait they are using cover! We better make enemies do everything in the world to flush them out of cover! (Goodbye sniper play) - We want to encourage team play for some objectives, but wait! we have to make some of these objectives unplayable unless you have cloaked players! - We want to encourage smart play, but wait players are being smart and not rushing to the zone! Bette camp enemsies there and litter the path there with enemies! - We want people to have fun playing melee, but wait! melee is doing well have to nerf it! And moreover have poor defense for 'melee' character so they get their asses shot off if they run forth. - We want to encourage the aerial aspect and even make abilities for aerial fighters. But wait we have to let large enemy units teleport up and down levels as if there was no walls For every game play design they made they instanly did everything they could to eliminate any player advantage. I think they were looking too much and too often at game telemetry.
The cancellation of the beta in a 'we got this guys' fashion was a huge error.
Net result in the end is a lot of cookie cutter games, a few classes and simply better than others, in some cases more boring but better. The game is so frantic that you can't enjoy anything happening in game.

I, on the other hand, could not. In MEA I did well. So, I liked MEA. It has ways to help me compensate for my shortcomings. ME3 does not and I did not do well in it. It’s really that simple. And, yeah, I think I ended up with 100 to 150 hours in ME3MP, and only 80 or so in MEA, but i did wish things would have turned out differently, and I would have returned to ME:A if they did. It really crushed me when they announced no DLC because it meant no MP additions of new stuff. Just frigging sad. So, yeah, that’s that. SP games.

My first inclination was average, maybe somewhat below. But with a little more thought, I put it as "Just Bad". Why:
Even though I didn’t start till after 1.06, it just never grabbed me. I don’t know how I managed 100 hrs. And the last third of that was mostly a “just grind a few more achievements, and get some more MF’s … and why am I doing this again?...”
Here’s my (okay not too) brief list of where it missed in my thinking:
1) Grind. Skill pts behind card unlocks was a very bad idea. 2) Grind. XP gain was far too slow 3) Grind. Credit gain was too slow 4) Grind. Challenge points too slow 5) Grind. Patch 1.09 … ‘nuff said 6) Grind. Okay, not ‘nuff: variant weapons are atrocious. 7) Grind. And double that for the 1.09 weapon mods 8) Grind. Hell, one dev admitted they added this all to give us something to keep us playing (it was a response on Reddit, can’t find the link). Hmmm, why not try making the game compelling instead?
9) Lack of variety to maps, weapons, enemies, etc. It just got old fast.
10) No compelling enemies. Part of this is lore. In ME3, I had three games of history with Reapers, Cerberus and Geth. Here, I had a few weeks of SP with (boring) Kett, Remnants and Outcasts. There simply is nothing like a Banshee in this game.
11) Soloing: I did over 200 in ME3. Loved trying new kits and themes. Level 1 with a base weapon? Sure, let’s go! They messed it up here. Mission waves were terrible to solo. Credit, XP, challenge pts were crippled. Do a gold solo in ME3 and get 300-400K. What do you get here, a sixth of that?
12) MF challenges. Hey, I appreciate the idea of MF’s as another currency. Ditto letting us earn another 60 per day. But they really, really messed up the game. Near every random lobby was the Firebase and/or enemy du (challenge) jour. And why didn’t they ever add the other 3 FB’s to the challenge rotation? Seriously repetitive and boring.
13) The whole challenge structure was uninspired & unbalanced. Complete Enemies in a week ... complete your Rank6 prestige in … waaay more than I’ll ever play. No "Best of the Best"? No solo challenges (not that I want to do them here). Just flat & dull.
So, bottom line, the grind was unbearable. Sure, ME3 MP had a lot of that too. But they took it to Eleven here. And with little compelling to compensate.

I tried SO hard to like MEA:MP. For weeks, I'd take a break of a few days, or weeks, and try few matches, but I'd get annoyed and frustrated; and even playing with friends, I just couldn't enjoy it. I did pretty much the same thing. I think I managed to rack up about 100 hours before deciding that there was nothing for me to enjoy about the game. While that may sound like a lot of playtime, when you spread it across the three months I had the game installed, it averages out to under an hour and a half per day if I'm not mistaken. I was hoping for another game like ME3MP where I could easily sink 3-4 hours a day if I wasn't careful, and still want to keep playing, but it just wasn't there no matter how hard I tried to find it.

You guys are getting too granular. The game is just bad throughout. It's like trying to explain why a scrapped car in a junkyard won't pass inspection - it has too many problems to list.
You can harp on the details but the real problem is more fundamental. The team just wasn't good enough to put together the game. They had some minor good ideas likely lingering from their experience on me3mp, but it's clear they weren't able to put together the base of the game and weren't up to speed on industry standards for shooters, making the whole thing feel shitty and become a mess, with limited ability to build and add upon what was there. It's clear now that in me3, Edmonton did the majority of the combat design, and Montreal just put the existing pieces together to cobble a multiplayer that was great mostly because of Edmonton's work.
It's as simple as the team wasn't good enough to make a decent game, even with five years to work with. The car is junk. You need to go find a new person to purchase something from someone who actually knows how to make cars.
The fact that the brakes don't work in this game will hopefully be irrelevant when someone competent gets his hands on the series and makes an entirely new model.

Didn't quite expect to see someone say something like this. Very refreshing. At least we can all take comfort in the fact that the development team was running on the tears of white people and there were no damn conservatives in it. For that we can all be happy. That is what is really important here. Not the games. Let's also take a moment for the game development masterpiece that is jump packs.
