Hi everyone, so as my thread title suggested, I'd like to know or at least get some idea of how old Empress Celene is in the time of WEWH in DAI.
I don't need an exact age, just what decade or so she's in would do. Even an image of her without her mask would be helpful since it obscures much of her face. It would also help if I knew Gaspard and Briala's ages while we're at it.
I did a search of Google but couldn't find anything solid so... anyone here know? Please?

Briala is about the same age as Celene, seeing as they grew up together.
Gaspard was born in 8:74 Blessed, which would make him roughly 67 years old. Florianne is his younger sister, but she’s still in her late fifties to early sixties.

Celene was 16 when she ascended the throne in 9:20 which would make her 36 around the start of the Inquisition.

Gaspard is considerably older. He was said to be 19 when he became a Chevalier and the Rebel Queen was still alive at that time. She died in 8:96 which means that Gaspard must be at least 63 at the beginning of Inquisition. However, the writers have not proven very good at dates so they may not have intended for him to be that old.

Celene Valmont I <-- link to Celene's DA wiki page some things in short: - Celene Valmont was born in 9:04 Dragon, that makes her 37 years old during the events of Inquisition (9:41)
- when she was 16: her parents were murdered, she took the throne after that
some pictures of Celene
From The Masked Empire cover From various statues in Inquisition
Gaspard de Chalons
- Gaspard was born in 8:74 Blessed, making him 67 years old during Inquisition (what the??? Old man!)

This would also appear to be a picture of Celene without her mask.

I am curious what will happen when Celene dies. She's unmarried, no children, her nearest relation and heir was in open rebellion, not to mention that she isn't a spring chicken anymore. I imagine Orlais will rip itself apart no matter who rules now. The same problem with Ferelden, even if you get a stable kingdom by marrying Alistair and Anora, nearly a decade has passed and no heir. The future will be an interesting time.

I imagine Orlais will rip itself apart no matter who rules now. If all goes well, that won’t be a problem for 30-40 years. It’s the same issue with Gaspard - at his age, he probably won’t be fathering any kids. It’s not impossible, but it’s not likely.

I'm pretty sure Gaspard does have children. I seem to recall that someone was mentioned as being married to one of them. Will have to check where I saw it.

As for Ferelden they will just vote in Fergus Cousland and by now he should have married again. Apparently some of the Banns wanted his father instead of Cailan so there is support in the kingdom for the idea. It was only Eamon who was fixated with the monarch having to be from the Calenhad line.

36 or so? Maker's Breath I'm glad I asked! If I'd have guessed judging from her appearance in WEWH I'd have put her at around 70 or so! That of course contradicted some of the other implications that she was much younger than that which is why I finally decided to put the matter to rest by asking the experts here on the forum.
I'd have put Gaspard in his forties and Florianne in her thirties. Its really interesting to know their real ages and what they actually look like without their masks. I found it a little absurd that I was choosing the leader of a nation without even knowing their faces or ages. I haven't read any of the DA books though I think I should do so, particularly the Masked Empire as I'm starting to get the impression I'd understand WEWH better if I had.
In any case, thank you to everyone who responded as I really appreciate you all taking the time to indulge my curiousity. I always pick Celene, for various reasons and usually reunite her with Briala in hopes that together they can build a better future for both human and elven citizens of Orlais. It seems like its not actually too late for Celene to produce an heir though she'd best be quick about it at her age.

He’s only been married once, and his wife was killed by Celene’s father after she assassinated Celene’s mother. He has no children listed on the Wiki or mentioned in WoT Volume 2. Of course, he could have sired a bastard, but it’s unlikely they would be in line for the throne.

I can't seem to find the reference I am looking for with regard to Gaspard's offspring so may be I imagined it.
Nevarra is also likely to erupt in civil war soon what with King Markus being old and childless, his brother elderly and childless and no other immediate heirs but lots of people who think they should be.
You'd think that the rulers of the various nations would have taken the succession a bit more seriously and nominated someone to ensure a smooth transition. Of course Celene would know from her own experience of taking power that it would immediately make her a target for assassination by her heir but even so, she claims to care about her legacy.

Also, the nobility in Ferelden aren't as "high" as those in Orlais.

It's almost as though this fictional setting was set up to generate as much as strife and internal conflict as possible!

Dragon Age 6: Everything is On Fire. Again. Pretty much. I'm not looking forward to it. All of the political and succession garbage is the least interesting part of the DA games for me.

Doesn't this make her younger than Anora then at the start of Inquisition? They really don't age well in Orlais.

I'm not saying that Alistair wasn't qualified or anything like that. I was merely stating that if the situation occurs where there are no official heirs, bastards are considered and used Alistair as an example because he is a bastard(he was born of parents not married to each other) and was eligible for the crown because Cailan had no heirs.
