I just meant that if the agent had the ability to lie then Shepard could have a one use ability to makes the agent tell the truth that round. In the write up it could be paragon or renegade version. Oooo, cool I like that idea.

A potential snag came to mind. If the players vote Shepard out (thinking he/she is a Cerberus agent), and Shepard was a hero, what happens to the game? A couple of options:
1. Good Shepard is immune from being voted off (not a fan of this...this gives the Shepard player virtually no risk whatsoever).
2. Good Shepard could get wrongfully voted off, but if they haven't yet used their interrupt, they could use it then to nullify the votes, prove their goodness, and let the game continue. The heroes then forfeit that voting round, and night begins. A good Shepard who has used their interrupt would get voted off, and then it's game over for the heroes.
3. Shepard cannot be evil for the first game, until/unless we get the rest of the rules ironed out and you like this version enough to play a second time.
4. Something else?

What happens if evil shepard gets voted off? I guess Shepard is immune to nighttime elimination regardless? I like Option 3. Start with good Shepard, see how the game goes. (Note to Reed, this just means not a cerberus agent, they can still be renegade )

(Note to Reed, this just means not a cerberus agent, they can still be renegade ) True. But how many Cerberus agents would we have? If the players suspect Shepard and have not found the other agent yet, then they could keep Shepard around but realize that they can't trust him or her. You may be right about option 3, at least for now. I agree that Shepard can't be targeted by Cerberus during night rounds, unless we want to introduce the idea of turning Shepard but leaving him or her in play? I would think it'd be pretty obvious from the narrative, though.

Wouldn't the spies just automatically target them first?

I think maybe it should be that Shepard can be good or evil, but can't be voted out or night time eliminated. Basically Shepard's role would be to help whichever team he is on win. So he wins with the spies (if evil) if all other heroes are eliminated or wins with the heroes (if good) when the spies are eliminated.
Because if Shepard can be voted out...
What do you do with the questioning role? Especially if heroes and villains are still left in the game?

And what, if Shepard can be voted out (and be good and evil) and if s/he goes out, someone else in the team takes the place? The GM could assign Sheps abilities to someone else for example. That way, things stay exciting for the player who is Shep too. Plus we all know, we play ME not for Shep, but for Garrus being Garrus and Mordin singing musicals

Plus we all know, we play ME not for Shep, but for Garrus being Garrus and Mordin singing musicals Meh. I play for Shepard too I'm ok with either idea. However, since this set of rules is entirely new, maybe for the first (potentially only) game, we should go ahead and make Shepard guaranteed good and immune to elimination. This would give us the chance to decide 1) are all the other new rules working as expected, 2) are the question restrictions fair, 3) is the interrogation mechanic working as expected, 4) are the other roles still working as expected, and 5) do we even like playing this way.

Player list so farreed space fylimar romice catilina pela moon gervaise That makes Shepard (guaranteed good for at least this attempt), a captured spy, two unknown spies, and 4 good guys. This round may be rough on the good guys. Do you all want to experiment with only one extra (unknown) spy instead of two? I'm fine with it either way. I will update this post with a summary of the roles. **Note that voting in this game will take place privately with me via PM, after questions have been answered by the captured agent. Final votes will be shared with the captured agent after the end of each day round. Let's say everyone gets a vote, except the captured agent?
Question formats:Yes or no questions Who did X vote for? Who voted for X? Disallowed questions: Is the remaining agent an AI? (narrows it down too much) Is the remaining agent turian? (or quarian, or krogran, or whatever...again, too much narrowing down. Asking if they are human should be fine since that leaves several options.) The GM reserves the right to deny a question if it is deemed to unbalance things too much. ShepardShepard is known to all players and cannot be eliminated at night. During each day round, players suggest questions for Shepard to ask the captured agent during interrogation. Shepard will then decide on three questions to ask the agent, and send those questions to the GM. Once approved by the GM, the questions will be forwarded to the captured agent. Once per game, Shepard may use an interrupt to force the agent to answer all three questions truthfully (though being vague is still fine). The player will choose paragon or renegade, which has no bearing on whether Shepard is good or evil. Shepard is guaranteed to be good for the first game. Captured Agent
The captured agent is known to all players and cannot be eliminated at night. During each day round, the agent will be PMed with three questions chosen by Shepard. The agent may answer one of these questions with an outright lie, while the other two must be truthful (but can be vague or misleading...they must simply be technically true). If Shepard uses his or her interrupt, then that set of questions must all be answered truthfully (but again can be vague or misleading, just technically true). The agent will send their answers to the GM, who will write the questions and answers into a narrative. At the end of voting, which takes place privately via PM, the GM will share all votes with the captured agent. Others (Note that I have removed EDI, Diana, and EC from the list for now) Cerberus Agents
2-4 of the players will begin each game as the "evil" version of their character. These characters have been indoctrinated before the game begins, unbeknownst to Shepard. Each night, you will work together to attempt to indoctrinate one other player. Indoctrinated players are removed from the game (unless saved by Miranda). The captured agent knows who these two players are, and their roles.
Garrus Vakarian
The Vigilante. Once per game, you may choose to shoot someone during the night cycle. This will eliminate that player from the game. Should you and Javik use your ability on the same night, Javik's will take precedence and you will get to re-use your ability on a different night. Cerberus Garrus may not shoot another agent.
Liara T'Soni
The Shadowbroker. Each night, you may research one player to determine whether or not they are a Cerberus operative. You may use your findings to provide clues to the other players, but you may not explicitly state anything you have found out. Should Javik be indoctrinated or arrested, you will be so heartbroken at losing your specimen that you skip using your special power the next night. Liara is guaranteed to be a hero.
Javik
The Last Living Prothean. Once per game during the night cycle, Javik may choose to complain to the crew about how primitive this cycle is. The Cerberus agents get so drunk out of sheer boredom that they pass out and fail to indoctrinate anyone that night. All other nighttime abilities will be neutralized that night as well. However, the next night, the Cerberus agents will make up for lost time by claiming two victims. Should you be indoctrinated or arrested, Liara will be so depressed that she will forgo using her special power the next night.
Miranda Lawson
The Lazarus Project Scientist. Once per game, you may choose to bring back the role indoctrinated by Cerberus that night. You will not be told which player you are saving. You can use this ability to save yourself. Should you and Javik use your ability on the same night, Javik's will take precedence and you will get to re-use your ability on a different night.
Wrex
The Krogan Warlord. Should you be arrested during the day, you will enter a blood rage and start a brawl with any other player of your choice. You will both be arrested and eliminated from the game.
Tali'Zorah vas Normandy
The Quarian Engineer. Once per game during a day round, you may protect someone from being voted off. You may not protect yourself. PM the Game Master to use this ability.
Legion
The Geth Platform. It may take you some time to build a consensus, but once you do, your word is convincing. Once per game, you may change all votes for elimination to the player of your choice. PM the game master to activate this ability.
Kaidan Alenko/Ashley Williams
The Virmire Survivor. The player assigned to this role gets to choose whether to be Kaidan or Ashley. Should you be indoctrinated or killed, others will be so inspired by your bravery that your vote will still carry weight after your death. During voting on the first day cycle after your elimination, you will be allowed to cast a vote to eliminate the next player, just as if you were still in the game. Activate this ability by PMing the game master.
Kasumi Goto
The Enigmatic Thief. Once per game, Kasumi may cloak herself and go snooping at your not-so-friendly local Cerberus office. She will learn the role being attacked by Cerberus that night. If she correctly tells the GM which player has this role, then Kasumi's warning will cause the player to escape indoctrination that night. You cannot save yourself with this ability. Kasumi who begins the game as evil may instead use her ability once per game to block Liara.
Jack
Subject Zero. Once per game, Jack may interrogate another player overnight who she suspects of working for Cerberus. If she is correct, the player is eliminated. If she is wrong, she is eliminated instead. Jack is guaranteed to be good.
Karin Chakwas
The Medic. Chakwas will do everything to save a patient, even if she's barely holding on herself. Upon nighttime elimination (either indoctrinated, shot by Garrus, or interrogated by Jack) You will be able to bring back one player who had previously been eliminated. If that player had any abilities remaining, they will be allowed to use those abilities as usual.
Emily Wong
The Investigative Reporter. You are willing to do nearly anything to get to the truth, even if it kills you. Should you be eliminated at night, the role and player name of one of your enemies will be publicly revealed. The revealed player will be randomly chosen from the list of players who are on the opposing side.
