Commander Shepard is the protagonist. Like most BW protagonists, they have a set last name and customizable first name. Female Shepard always gets called "Lola" as a nickname by James Vega, regardless of the first name chosen (unless the player tells him to stop, which is an option early on).

Purgatory is a bar/dance club located on the Citadel, which is a massive interspecies space station.

A datapad looks and functions like a tablet.

This is an omnitool, worn by someone's custom femshep. (They are not visible when not in use.) They can do all sorts of handwavy things in and out of combat. Think of them like...really juiced up smart watches, I guess?

The indoctrination device is something I made up. Indoctrination is...hard to explain without too many spoilers (play MET, dammit). Just think of it as extreme brainwashing.

Cerberus is an organization that starts the trilogy as "shady," to put it mildly. The Illusive Man is their leader.

I'll gather non-spoilery pictures of the characters too, if you want them.

Kaidan has used his special ability to vote after elimination. This little narrative involved a guest writer.

“Shepard, take a look at this,” said Garrus. He stepped forward, holding out an omnitool. “This was Kaidan’s. There’s a recording on it that might offer some insight or, barring that, some entertainment.”

Shepard snatched the tool and powered it on. Kaidan’s red-eyed face appeared on the vid.

"G-guys....." Kaidan said, trying to fight off his indoctrination. "A-a spy is here! Among all of us!"

He spoke the name, and Shepard’s jaw dropped in disbelief.

"And Joker....." Kaidan said before almost giving to indoctrination. "I need to tell you.... I was the one who took a deuce in the urinal. Forgive me....."

The vid winked out.

"Sick bastard," muttered Joker.

Since you are new to mass effect, I guess? I'll translate. Serza appears to be claiming to be Wrex, a Krogan. Krogan are belligerent battle turtle aliens who like to fight. Whether he's actually Wrex, I guess we will find out if he's voted off.

I am hesitant to vote for Serza, because if she is who she is hinting at... we are in trouble. Unless she is playing us, and she IS a Carberus agent I'll hold off on voting, as it is morning and my brain isn't working correctly yet.
