Deep Space Nine and Voyager are pretty much tied right now. Though if Discovery keeps on like it is it will be my favorite series however I don't feel comfortable voting for it considering its still brand new and its quality could still vary wildly.

I'm normally the last person to complain about a Star Trek thread, but...
We already have a Star Trek thread. I'm sending a message to a mod to have this moved over there.

DS9
As innovative as Roddenberry's Trek often was, I never particularly cared for his enlightened vision of humanity. The humans seemed more like weird space aliens than the weird space aliens did (which was the point, I understand), and it made for lacklustre storytelling. TNG was alright but it took a few seasons to warm up, and though I understand the reason for using an episodic format most of the time, I never particularly liked it. DS9's takes on morality, politics and society were a lot more mature and in general much more interesting than the other ST series managed most of the time.
That it included some of my favourite characters in the series (Garak, Sisko, Jadzia, Odo, Kira) doesn't hurt it.
Downsides? No Borg (though halfway through the series First Contact had pretty much already ruined them anyway).

This couldn't possibly be controversial! I can't really sit through an episode of any of the TNG-and-later series anymore. With the exception of DS9 (which has a few episodes that stand up) the rest so fundamentally lack conflict that they become a boring "talking heads" series to me. Not that I'm claiming the original series is Shakespeare (at times they sure thought they were doing Shakespeare!) but being slightly closer to "Dirty Future" than the rest gave them more conflict to work with, which is necessary for drama. Campy, campy drama. Plus the original series eventually evolved into some truly great movies, something none of the rest were capable of doing. Even if it is cheating to include Star Trek II and IV as part of the original series. I'm okay with cheating if it means I win! Did I win? O.o

50/50 between TNG and DS9. Both developed nicely from a less than promising start, most of the contenders for the "best ST episode" competition are from one of these 2. Original had it's moments as well, but was spoiled slightly by the excessive cheese. Voyager never quite got it's shit together unfortunately. Wasted potential. Enterprise was a total abortion with only 2 redeeming features. Both of them firmly attached to T'pol. I've no intention of watching Discovery ever based on the downward pattern of the franchise's past few years. I'm normally the last person to complain about a Star Trek thread, but... We already have a Star Trek thread. I'm sending a message to a mod to have this moved over there. But that thread is general purpose, this is SPECIFICALLY about which is best. That thread also lacks a poll. Gotta have a pole.

It is a tough call, because DS9 was pretty damn great and in many ways the best, but I still think TNG had the best episodes. And it had Captain Picard.

DS9. It was darker and it wasn't afraid to break the Utopia of Gene Roddenberry and get its hands dirty.

I liked DS9, and voyager. The previous series were too...small for me. By small, I mean every story was resolved in a single episode. But DS9 introduced interesting characters, and had multi episode stories. And it was far darker then most prior. It broke the star trek mold, and was around a space station mostly.
I do think they didn't know what to so with so many interesting characters. Garuk only got a single episode a season after 2 (or something like that). And he was my favorite character.

I'd argue that using Garak sparingly was the best thing they could have done with the character. If they'd put him on screen too much he would have started to lose some of his mystery, and thus some of the appeal that likely made him your favourite character. Sometimes less is more.

Like with Q, I feel they could have used him a lot more but didn't and thus didn't dilute his character and make him boring. I think TNG was overall the best series. I liked the characters more, the stories were more thought provoking and nuanced. DS9 is a good second tho, they really delved into some of the darker corners of Trek. Like the Odo/Garak 2 parter Improbable Cause/The Die is Cast. Or the always great In the Pale Moonlight. And all out war was an interesting angle to take the series.

Maybe, but they used him so sparingly, that I forgot he was there half the time. And they only had q on the series once. I wanted more. He was so good with sisko.

I wouldn't call that a Star Trek thread. It's the Jonestown of the Discovery cult. Anyway I'll never choose between the holy trinity or should I say stellar triumvarite of TOS, TNG, DS9. Ooh, now that is a bit unfair, though I can see your point. I still haven't forgiven one poster for her slanderous, libelous, outrageous, and incongruous attacks against my beloved Jadzia Dax!
