If I had to choose between a railroaded game that won't even give you the option to turn left or right and a big open world game full of emptiness and boredom I'll ALWAYS go with the first. Kind of a loaded choice, no? The boredom qualifier could be attached to either option. All you are really saying is that you won't choose a boring game, so what? Railroaded games can have very interesting characters and stories. Open world games can have lots of interesting things to see and do, and some interesting characters and story. Which one is preferred is more a matter of taste than anything else. Open world ALWAYS bore me after a while. After 100 hours I got even tired of TW3's world in spite of it being one my favorites game in modern age. So to me "Open World = Boredom" is a given, therefore what I was saying is that if I have to choose between a game that I am 100% sure is going to tire me and a game that perhaps is going to tire me perhaps not, I'll choose the 2nd. Seriously I have still to understand where all this love for "big games where people are going to do the same things all over again for 5648 hours" comes from, but to each their own I guess.

Eh, I prefer more contained semi/open world with narrative focus and gameplay mechanics that bloody well use it!
Last Deus Ex, Arkane games, etc...they're immersive enough and not waste of time on outposts/enemy camps/collect x crap.

Yes, open world continues to be popular. It would have been more accurate to proclaim that gamers don't really care about story all that much. They like competing and collecting shit. Don't think that's something new though. EA is just spouting excuses for their profit maximizing multiplayer approach. They are not wrong about the popularity of online shooters, though. It only makes sense to cater to that then. Doesn't mean there is no market for story heavy single player games anymore if that's what they meant. See the games you listed. I couldn't care less how many uninspired cash grabs EA released if they didn't kill off all diversity in all their games. Can't they let one or two studios do something different, you know? well they are. As far as we know DA 4 is still happening and this year they released both MEA and Battlefront 2. Games with significant single player components and BF 2 even is supposed to have SP DLC. Maybe that's where the Quarian ark will finally appear...

Its so tedious and boring driving that useless mako from position 1 to position 2. Its like having a job and getting stuck on a traffic jam. I´ll bet half of those 120 hours i wasted on Andromeda was driving a damned Mako...

Yep. Theyre not gonna make another ME game, unless they can fill it with the fucking microtransactions and other stupid shit. Anything to make more money and squeeze every last drop out of us suckers. And theres always a bunch of us suckers that will give them the money.
Watching this Battlefront 2 fiasco is enjoyable, such a delicious karma on them. I hope they fucking suffer.

Firstly I want to know what we mean when we say linear. If we are talking about the environment, Then I'd like to say I'd take ME2 multiple hand crafted hub worlds any day, then expansive desert planets filled with almost nothing. They all were unique in their own way. Even the sidequest planets were well done. Plus devs had more time to focus on the stories they wanted to tell. So personally I'll take small hub world over worlds filled with nothing and no story. If Andromeda was done like Witcher 3 (Yes I brought up Witcher 3, Deal with it) where the environments had story littered throughout the worlds then it would have been fun. But riding in the Mako 2 and collecting mineral deposits was not. If I wanted a game where exploring was the forefront of the experience I'd play Skyrim or Fallout 4. They do it better than Andromeda.

Firstly I want to know what we mean when we say linear. Indeed. I think EA used that as code for, "anything that is not multiplayer," or more to the point, "anything we can't milk for recurring revenue." I'm pretty cynical when it comes to MBA's talking, but EA tried even my world-weary patience with their self-serving pronouncements. It's insulting, like we're exactly the brainless ATMs that they think we are.

BioWare's RPGs have NEVER been "linear" though, they always have had choices that allow you to alter the narrative (to an extent). Linearity or non-linearity have nothing to do with other issues. Andromeda sucks because they wasted literally years on procedural generation tech that went nowhere. Developing a game requires many elements developed by totally different groups of people to work together. You can't write a strong, focused narrative when they keep scrapping the environments and starting over. The industry loves microtransactions because they make money. That's really all there is to it. Eos and the set story planets were always going to be there, they never scrapped that narrative. The procedural generated planets were to be like the boring easily skipped planets in Mass Effect 1 which also were randomly generated in development.
