Users of current-gen AMD processors will be all-to familiar with the ghastly glitch that turns your party, along with all enemies and static meshes in the game into fuzzy black blobs as soon as you enter Peak 15 on Noveria, or land on Ilos. The only known 'solution' was to go into the console and turn all lighting effects off until the 'glitched' region was completed - but this made the game look horrible, overbright, flat, and one dimensional. It could be difficult to navigate areas, or spot enemies, because everything on screen was at the same glaring level of light with no differentiation in tone. Now, I've found another solution, thanks to this guy pharago. It's actually been around since 2016, but was kept curiously low profile. I wasn't even aware of it myself until yesterday. Basically, go to this link: www.nexusmods.com/masseffect/mods/71/?And download the FPS counter, install it (there's a stand-alone exe available, so it's easy) and launch the game. BANG! Black blob glitch solved. As an added bonus there's a whole range of new graphical features included too, that can really sharpen the graphics and make the old game look fantastic. SMAA antialiasing, olor Correction and tinting, image sharpening and SRBAO 2.0 ambient occlusion. All can be toggled, and controlled from the F12 console menu. Issues I've found: I sometimes get an error message when launching on Steam, telling that 'the game has been compromised'. If I just click OK and try to launch the game again, it starts without issues. Pressing F12 in-game opens up the FPS Counter console, here you can adjust things to your liking, including removing the actual graph and counter (which I find intrusive). Closing the console sometimes causes Mass Effects in-game cursor to vanish. Restarting the game fixes this. I once encountered a kind of 'ghost texture' effect, where overlapping graphics were visible on screen. I only ever saw this once, and restarting the game fixed it. Hope sometime out there finds this of use. The black blob issue was really killing the game for me, to the extent I no longer wanted to play it. This is an absolute God send!

I've never used this mod and it does seem a little complicated. I opted to make sure my next computer was Intel and only play ME1 on it - or at least not Peak 15 and Ilos.

Honestly, there's nothing complicated about it at all. it's fully automatic.
You download the file. Double click to install it. Launch Mass Effect. Done.
That's all there is to it.
And if you want to play with all the fancy new graphical effects, press the F12 key while in the game, and you'll see them with a checkbox next to them to toggle them on or off. They are all off by default. But these new graphical effects are not necessary to fix the black blob issue.

Oh, I understand. I'm familiar with mods. However, I also read through your entire post and it seems like it's potentially more trouble than it's worth [for me], particularly since ME1 is also installed on an Intel computer. However, I imagine someone with only AMD would be happy with this. Also, this post probably belongs in the mods section. CrutchCricket: maybe this can be moved to where it belongs?

IDK about Steam version of the game, but Origin version doesn't start with this mod. Tried to run as Admin etc, but no luck. If anyone managed to start Origin version of the game please let me know.
EDIT: Nevermind, forgot to enable console. All works now.
