Hidy ho all, I didn't see a thread for this yet, so I figured I'd create one. Yep, I have a switch and I am playing breath of the wild...when I'm not at work of course. And you know what, this game is awesome. Up to the third dungeon, in the first area. And I'm really enjoying myself thus far. Anyone else have it? If so, share your thoughts!

I had one full playthrough on the Wii-U back in march and I'm going through it again on the switch with the expansions installed. I love the freedom in exploration and puzzle solving. It let's you provide your own solutions on how to get to things or how to get things done. That freedom is also complimented by the placement of visual hints. You might be on your way to a marker, but there are at least a dozen curious landmarks that slightly peak into your field of view and invite for a detour. I'm stoked about getting back to Hyrule during the holidays.

I have to ask, do you actually like the new name they gave Gannon? To me, its just annoying. Its not evil sounding, its not cool sounding. it sounds rather immature to my ears. Do you feel the same way?

I have no issue or strong feelings about Nintendo calling him Calamity Ganon.
I think he was named the same way meteorologists would name a hurrican. He's more a force of nature or a scourge of the land in BotW than an actual character.

I have the game on switch and currently about 3/4 done with the main quest. Have been a long time Zelda fan and I love the freedom they have given to the new open world. Everything from NPC, wild life, nature environment to monsters are meticulously crafted and incredibly fun to interact with. Although puzzle-solving is still great I do wish that besides the four divine beast dungeons there could be other bigger, more complicated dungeons with boss fight to explore. Gannon's name doesn't really bother me. I never have any expectation for the RPG elements of Zelda series. I think the story/characters are overall designed for a younger playerbase, which sometimes do feel oversimplified and goofy for us "mature" adults But I don't play Zelda for a convoluted story or characters of depth. Like so many other Nintendo games I play it cuz it's filled with simple and pure fun With that said I am still pleasantly surprised by the story between Link and Zelda in Breath of the Wild. It's quite rich in details(compared to other Zelda games) and integrates nicely into game play. For the first time ever I actually is moved by the narration and starts to deeply care about the fate of our 2 protagonists

Fair enough, and its not like their hitting you over the head with it. They named him twice so far, in the 10 ish hours I played. And they just left you to do your own thing.

They explain why he's called calamity in the story. Something about him getting po'd about failing all the time.
I liked it well enough, but I was disappointed with the dungeons, enemy variety was really weak, I wish side quests were more interesting when it came to rewards, the story was weak, and the final confrontation was just underwhelming.
The game is at its best when you just explore.

This game looks very interesting...there are so many glowing reviews about it. The lack of story and character stuff does make me hesitate, but it still looks like it could be a lot of fun. Nice visuals too. (Oh, and that trailer they released for the Switch Presentation earlier in the year was lovely.)

I'm slowly finding out more about the world, what happened, why I lost my memory, ect.

The game is at its best when you just explore. Going in blind, not knowing all the secrets was pure joy. But even the second time around I'm having a blast (Also thanks to some performance improvements). I laugh at myself while redoing some of the shrines and remembering how hard I made it on myself with some of them, not having figured out the optimal solutions.

I'm actually starting to run into the same problem I have with all open world games. I'm getting tired of just exploring. I want more of the story. But I'm also torn because I want to climb that mountain over there, the one the left.
Its a weird feeling, but it always results with me putting down the game for good. idk...I'm not going to be able to play it until Saturday or Sunday. So maybe that gap will help. Or...maybe not.

I had the game since March and finally beat it about 2 weeks ago. 205 hours. So I'm with you.

Here's a question for everyone, how do you make potions? I ran into the chick that said you can just combine insects into potions. but A.) that was a while ago, and B.) she never said how to combine them. So I'm getting handed 2 potions thus far, and I have no idea how to make them. And healing/elemental resistance potions would be awesome to have atm.
