Anyone else psyched for this at all? The series has been hit or miss for me for a while, but I enjoyed XII and XIII overall. The unconventional setting aside, the gameplay sounds like a bit off a cross between the Gambit system and whatever the hell was going on in XIII which could actually be a lot of fun. And an open-world Final Fantasy game definitely has promise.
It also comes out around the same time my daughter is due to be born, so throw her into the mix and FFXV will probably be my main electronic distraction until Mass Effect: Andromeda comes out in March.

It could be good. Maybe. Possibly. I have zero faith but i'd like it to be not shit. Personally i'm just gonna stick to other JRPG's unless I hear very good things.

The gameplay sucks and the emphasis on tired fetch quest in its design isn't promising either. Yoko Shimomura's soundtrack is looking mighty fine.

I admit I haven't been following development closely. I know it began as an offshoot title in the XIII universe but has morphed into the new flagship entry. I feel like I'm aging out of the FF fanbase sometimes. I feel like back in the heydays a character like Snow from XIII would have been my absolute favorite where as playing it now I could barely stand him. I enjoyed XIII overall except the linearity was very confining; however, towards the very end when the world finally opens it up it became a blast. XV seems like it be a bit more like the end of XIII from the start. The art and level design and details in FF games are still phenemonal, and the idea of having one be a fully explorable sandbox with day, night and weather cycles is just too cool. What about the combat makes you say it sucks? I just dropped a wad pre-ordering the special edition, guide and a PS4 PRO so nothing you can say will override my need to justify that decision (well, I also want the VII remake and the XII remake...). I am a genuinely curious, though.

Every demo for the game has been mediocre at best. Put that with the series going downhill since X-2 for single player games (X) was the last good game)and I have no hope at all this game won't be below average at best.

Kind of a weird feeling knowing that it was supposed to release today. Well, let's see if the delay does anything to help or maybe harm the game.

Er, I've never played Final Fantasy. would it be totally alien to someone who likes BioWare, Bethesda, some Ubisoft content? No at all. Each Final Fantasy game, with the exception of a few, are in their own unique worlds with little to no relation to any other game. Of course, the general game play mechanics will be different, but that's to be expected.

A number of streamers are playing this today. Am watching one at the moment; he's taking the tutorial on the moves.
I'm unlikely to buy the game. Not really into this series and I don't play console games but I'm interested to know what the game is about.

Er, I've never played Final Fantasy. would it be totally alien to someone who likes BioWare, Bethesda, some Ubisoft content? I would say JRPGs in general are their own very specific thing. VERY different from western games. You either love or hate them. I grew up on JRPGs on the PS2. At the time it felt to me that 99% of all games were made in Japan. So their particular storytelling was normal to me. FF8 was the first RPG I ever played (unless you count Ocarina of Time). And I was obsessed with it. Mass Effect was actually my first western RPG when I was in college. It came out at the perfect moment when I had already become completely estranged from JRPGs. I felt way too told for most of them. I couldn't relate to the teenage protagonists anymore. It wasn't my type of game anymore in general. I was kind of heart-broken about it. Bioware was a revelation. Imo Final Fantasy is shockingly different from Bioware or Bethesda in many ways. Doesn't mean one cannot enjoy both. I did play FF13 and enjoyed it for the most part. Lightning had Liara's voice, after all. I still follow news on the Final Fantasy series and am mildly curious about 15. Might even play it when it's cheap. So my answer to you is: maybe.

Er, I've never played Final Fantasy. would it be totally alien to someone who likes BioWare, Bethesda, some Ubisoft content? ... So my answer to you is: maybe. ok... I've arrived in the 'Hinterlands' I've collected a ton of 'Elfroot substitute' and have dealt with some beasts using a rather 'Dragon Age 2-esque' Rogue style warping and bouncing around fighting style. And I can cook a nice Risotto and go fishing, this could be fun...

And I can cook a nice Risotto and go fishing, this could be fun... As you know, leave the Hinterlands as quickly as possible!!! It's mostly the storytelling in JRPGs that is very different, not so much what you do. Especially now that this game is fully open world, gameplay is bound to have similarities to DAI. However, I'm not sure I ever fully understood a single one of the complicated Final Fantasy plots. *g* I mean, I even read that 50 pages prologue story to FF13 and I still was confused as ever. FF10 still gives me headaches... I've received feedback from two coworkers so far: One is ecstatic as if he died and went to heaven. Most fun combat ever is what I could gather from his exuberant chatter. The other just finished the tutorial and said combat was absolute garbage, lol. So, the usual. Be open-minded. I hope you'll have fun!

That was the first Clueless Gamer episode in a long time that was extremely funny again. I laughed tears. Even though I played FF7-13, I still fully agree with this parody! In a way it's pretty accurate.
Many JRPGs are a bit silly. You have to give yourself over to the absurdity and over the top drama - and then it's fun! The Japanese sense of humor is an acquired taste.
Despite my current apathy, I still recommend Lost Odyssey to everyone, JRPG-fan or not. Most mature one I've ever played. Amazing soundtrack. Still sad there was never a sequel. Can't believe that was almost ten years ago already...

It felt playing Dragon Age Inquisiton when I was playing the demo, not to mention the random generated banter between the 4 backstreet boys in the overworld and it would all come full circle. So if you liked that game then you can probably find a lot of it in XV. I really didn't like what I played of XV

The art style is fascinating. Not giving too much away, there's a real variety in 'creatures and foes'... It's as if the normal rules of what is permissible in RPGs that I'm used to are thrown away . I'm going to embrace the detail, take my time, enjoy each breakfast, pick up each Pepper...
