You can definitely have all the best, well-reasoned intentions in the world and still cave in the face of temptation. Just ask anyone who's been on a diet or tried to quit smoking when the cheesecake and cigarettes are right there. Solas knows better and yet...elfy cheesecake!

And now I'm going to constantly be thinking of Lavellan, not as the savior of the world, the famous Inquisitor, Herald of Andraste, Bearer of the Mark ... but as elfy cheesecake. Whenever someone bows or kneels to her in game they will be bowing or kneeling to elfy cheesecake. I like it.

I had no idea ... learn something new every day. Lavellan wearing elaborate 16th/17th century ruffles, whilst also scantily clad, eating a frilly cheesecake ... wait I think we're creating Dread Wolf porn.

And add to that list, she should be "innocently" bending over to pick Elfroot. Because that's Lavellan's other main hobby, besides making the Dread Wolf act like a dog with a bone.

I was going to say that Solas would be Glinda. Both Solas and Glinda are both deceptively powerful magic users (and possibly evil), who could easily have saved everyone a lot of hassle by not withholding important information. Instead they chose to manipulate Inky/Dorothy to further their own agenda, as well as help them to eliminate other magic users who threaten their plans. Now I'm trying to figure out who best suits Oz characters. Cole is the Scarecrow: He gains a better understanding of people (a "brain") if he becomes more human. And he really looks the part. Cullen is the Cowardly Lion: Cullen has always been shy when it comes to romance, thus he requires "courage" in that area. Vivienne is the Wicked Witch of the East: She's also a fashionista and definitely comes across as a tad evil.

Hmm...I don't know about Vivienne was the Wicked Witch of the East. That witch dies at the beginning. She is the one who loses the ruby slippers to Dorothy...and has the striped socks like Cory. I was thinking about how they said DAI was originally supposed to be twice as long, so Cory's death at the end made him seem more like the Wicked Witch of the East, maybe. That would make some other character the really big bad, the Wicked Witch of the West. Cole really works as the Scarecrow though. I was thinking of The Iron Bull as the lion. He is this big strong guy, but he doesn't have the courage to leave the Qun. It takes orders from the Inquisitor to save the Chargers to get him to end up Tal Vashoth. Doesn't Corypheus also wear striped stockings and heeled shoes? =p

Mark Darrah has re-tweeted this clip for non-DA reason, but it made me think... considering that ancient elves were potentially talented shapeshifters, I wonder whether this is how the fights between them looked like:
I can totally see Solas in place of Merlin and... dunno... Andruil as Mim maybe, just having such shapeshifting contest while at the same time trying to eliminate one another, lol.

Like Dorian, I happen to complain quite a bit about many things that happen in my neck of the woods, but not 'cause of malice or disdain or else, but because I care.

Lavellan complaining about the Dalish to Solas is like Dorian complaining about his country to someone who hates Tevinter. Or a mage complaining about magic to Sera and so on. You're only affirming their narrow minded views. You might complain because you care, but I would assume you also want to complain to someone who does care.

I'm not affirming a hater's views, because saying that Solas is a narrow-viewed hater is unfair to the character. He's disappointed and bitter, as he is towards many other races, for multiple reasons, but that's a larger theme and one which also seems to stem from place of both trauma and caring, not the place of hate. In fact, I find it amusing that if Lavellan chooses to criticize Dalish from time to time, it's Solas himself who actually comes to their defense, lol. At the balcony, if we picked 'the decisions are my own' Solas is like 'huh, you know what, I still think they may indeed had some positive influence on you' and in Crestwood scene if Lavellan bemoans the fact that Elvenhan at some point was as bad as Tevinter he not only says 'don't' say that', but goes to tell her that for all his criticisms, he admires their indomitable spirit - nevermind that he approves when Lavellan points out that the Dalish are trying their best only to apologize to them. That's not a position of narrow-viewed 'hater' and oversimplifying Solas's character like that is probably not the best idea.

May I ask which moments were these? Because as far as I can remember the times you could agree with him were usually along the lines of 'alright you have some points but we ARE actively trying to learn more and better ourselves buddy' - this is, at least, the way I took it? Lavellan's integrity remained throughout their exchanges imo, in comparison to Solas's old geezer-ish view which we could see was slowly turning into a willingness to admit he was wrong about her people. The only time where I was really rolling my eyes was actually during the Crestwood disaster-date. ("The best thing the Dalish baked was you, ma honeyvhenan." But you could maybe write it off as Fen'harel being rusty at flattery.) One other thing I found cool was when Lavellan decides to keep the vallaslin, mentioning they represent absolutely something else to her, to her people, Solas unquestioningly accepts this.
Though I haven't played the main game in over a year, so I might've forgotten context and dialogues, but I think the argument falls into each player interpreting their character's intents differently.

That's not a position of narrow-viewed 'hater' and oversimplifying Solas's character like that is probably not the best idea. I never used the word hater or said Solas hated anyone. I generally agree with what you have to say, but just because Solas has a "good" reason for acting this way or doing this thing, doesn't mean he can't be labeled as x, y, or z. He is narrow-minded when it comes to the Dalish in Inquisition. It takes him a lot of time, and the influence of a Dalish he really likes, to budge on his preconceived ideas. I hardly think it's unfair to point that out. We can acknowledge his faults and point out the flaws in him as a person and still adore the character.

I believe the balcony scene is the one in question, but it's also been a little while since I played through his romance. I agree that for the most part Lavellan takes no sh*t from Solas regarding the Dalish. What do you mean "you've crossed paths"? What's your problem with the Dalish? Allergic to halla? I love the line delivery on those from Alix Wilton Regan.

Maybe it as unintentional, but the implication was fairly clear, given the context of discussion. Either way... no, it doesn't take him a lot of time. He can apologize to Lavellan pretty much after first conversation in Haven, whether they likes them or not. Ultimately whether Solas has "good" reasons to think the way he does, I still don't think it's fair to label his thinking as merely narrow-minded or dismiss criticism of Dalish culture Lavellan has as either lack of self-respect or adding fuel to arguments of haterz (especially given that in case Lavellan chooses to criticize the Dalish, it's Solas that comes to their defense). We can't forget that we're not just talking about random Joe Schmoe who spends way too much in the Fade - not only he has the long and dramatic history he has, he's seen a good chunk of history of modern Thedas and no matter when his opinion about Dalish has formed, he and his people still tried to reach out to them. It's not a perspective that can be easily dismissed. One can totally understand the plight of people and still be frustrated with them for various reasons and Solas made it quite clear (especially to disliked Inquisitor) that such is his position, either towards Dalish or city elves or people in general.
