Solas would just practice in the Fade before being all like, "I am excellent at Unicycling." And just gets on and does tricks. He'd be like:

I am replaying my canon Inquisitor again and I just got to the part where she first meets Solas and Varric. Every other person she's met so far is freaking out (rightly so as there's a giant demon spewing green hole in the sky) and then there's Varric and Solas. Varric's cracking jokes and Solas is sharing his theories with this pleasant "how do you do" hint of a smile on his face. This is not the time to sit down for cordial greetings! And at this point I can't help but wonder what Solas is thinking. Edit: Spewing not spring

I wouldn't be surprised if he mentally didn't just do a victory dance, considering that moments before it turned out that the prisoner he's put his last hope in was indeed capable of closing the rifts that nearly made him flee (to which he admitted during Fade scene).

Oh, it all makes sense. He's smug and Varric is Varric. I don't regret joining in on the pregame hype and speculation for Inquisition, but a part of me wishes I would have gone in blind, so Solas's reveal would have had more impact. I don't even know what I would have thought of him if I wasn't already a form believer of the "this apostate is up to something" rule. He's obviously way too smart to just be any old hobo

The Dragon Age drought is upon us and I'm fending it off by over analyzing everything in this playthrough.
First, there's a banter where Blackwall asks Bull what he'd be under the Qun and Bull suggests Ben-Hassrath. Does everyone know about Blackwall and no one tell the Inquisitor!
More Solas-y:
After playing through Trespasser, Solas's conscious decision to start a romantic relationship with Lavellan bothers me even more. It's really kind of awful and while I can be forgiving of thoughtlessly giving into passions, Solas doesn't go into it thoughtlessly. He thinks about it.
What is going on in his head during this scene?
Solas: Sleep well?
*Lavellan's response*
*Solas chuckles*
Solas: I apologize. The kiss was impulsive and ill considered, and I should not have encouraged it.
***
Lavellan(I'm sorry.): Solas, I thought you were interested. If I misread you, I apologize.
Solas: No, you have no need to apologize. I...
*
Lavellan(And yet you did.): You say that, but you're the one who started with tongue .
Solas: I did no such thing.
Lavellan: Oh, does it not count if it's only Fade-Tongue?
*
Lavellan(Are you not interested?): You did kiss me back. If I'm pressuring you...
Solas: No, you're not. I am perhaps pressuring myself.
***
Solas: It has been a long time and things have always been easier for me in the Fade.
I am not certain this is the best idea. It could lead to trouble.*
Lavellan(I'll risk it): I'm willing to take that chance, if you are.
Solas: I... may be, yes. If I could take a little time to think. There are... considerations.**
Lavellan: Take all the time you need.
Solas: Thank you. I am not often thrown by things that happened in dreams.
*You're not certain this is the best idea? It could lead to trouble?? Is he at this point uncertain if he's going to go through with the destroying Thedas as we know it thing? What is going on in that bald head!
**Just a few considerations. Not anything big. He just needs a little time to think.
The broken heart option also reveals some Solas thought processing.
Lavellan(Then let's end it.): Agreed. Best simply to be friends.
Solas: Thank you. I appreciate that*... and I will always remember a surprising moment stolen in a dream.
He acts relieved, like he was being pressured. And like he has no self control of his own.

^ can't speak to all of it but I always read him as surprised/caught off guard/obviously reluctant (not in a skeeved out way ofc) and Lavellan as an active pursuer/initiator. he tries to walk away.. well definitely to stay away and to rebuff/dissuade her a couple times (for both their sakes). course she couldn't possibly have any clue what "troubles" that it could lead to he's referring to (who coulda guessed that) but he straight up tells her "this will probably lead to trouble" ha in the last exchange, think he's relieved because she's given him an out (he was pressuring himself after all), the out he's looking for for obvious reasons. not 'out' like "caught in a trap out" but the good sense exit clause being provided to him (oh yeah this IS a terrible idea haha I'm so glad you reminded me. let's not). on self-control, think after a certain point it's easier for him to take an out she offers him rather than go 'out' himself (so he's half-hoping she will), cause he's essentially super lonely and a man lost at sea. he still shoulda known better tho l0l. he was bein selfish. man's motto is "I never said it was a good plan" these are of course personal interpretations and it's totally fine if you see things a different way peeps.

He acts relieved, like he was being pressured. And like he has no self control of his own. Thinking about something, even intently and multiple times, doesn't mean that a person still can't give into passions. Especially in case of Solas who's so lonely and yearning for connection, that he even finds Blackwall's terrible memories of war comforting because it's something familiar to him. And if that's comforting for him, he must be drawn to Inquisitor he likes like moth to a flame. I think that we can't forget that Inquisitor is an important figure in Solas's life whether they're romanced or not - they're the ones who break his resolve. Solas even admits (after ToM) that Inquisitors who he befriends give him hope, so there's no way of telling just how long he was 'under their spell', so to speak - maybe during Inquisition he gave in to optimism or infectious hope and thought that some other options are open to him. He certainly thought so at least up until Crestwood with Lavellan, of course if we choose to believe Mr. Weekes who said that at the moment Solas kissed her, he was at least briefly indeed ready to just drop his plan altogether. Also - bit of a side-note - whenever I speak with Wynne after I start a romance with someone I always have to have a good laugh at Wynne's warnings about romancing someone and potentially having to break apart, because it sounds like an "Instruction Manual For Dread Wolf How and Why To Dump Lavellan". I can't help but to think that most of Wynne's reasonings there applies to Solas

I've been avoiding the blanket fort, since I had not yet played Trespasser. After having finished last night, all I can say is [sigh]. I must have said "d'awwwwwwwww" a dozen times at the end and, by the time I finished, I was on board with destroying the world at his side just to take away the sad face.

Thinking about something, even intently and multiple times, doesn't mean that a person still can't give into passions. Fair enough, midnight tea, but there is a difference between something like Solas's Fade kiss, and him sitting back, and taking the the time to consider a possible relationship with Lavellan. He is giving in both ways, but when he takes the the time to think about it, it suggests he's weighing in the pros and the cons. If he had done an Anders, and declared that he couldn't resist that sweet protagonist booty in a fit of passion that went against his better judgement, I could give him some leniency. But Solas did his relationship-ing the way he seems to do everything else-- with thought and consideration motivated by passion. If he's considering all possibilities, what were the good outcomes of pursuing a relationship? Was he at that point, way before Crestwood, wavering about destroying the Thedas as we know it? If he wasn't, and he knew at that point that he was going to do the Trespasser sometime soon, then that is incredibly selfish and just wrong. Lavellan let him know she would back off if her attentions were unwanted. It wasn't her pursuit of him that drove him to her. He made the conscious choice. His pro and con list had to be a little unbalanced! ~Dating Lavellan~ Pros: -The booty! -Not lonely! -Someone to listen to me talk about how awesome the Fade is all the time! -Snuggles! Cons: -Will have to break up with her eventually and do that goodbye thing I hate... or not (note to self: consider just leaving without messy goodbyes) -Will perhaps have to admit true identity and plans resulting in Lavellan tears, shouting or attempts at physical violence (note to self: assess Inquisitor's reaction to bad news) -Will maybe be the cause of her death in the future (nts: share plans with audience at some point so speculation is less speculative) -Will possibly become emotionally compromised and consider abandoning plans... but not really -Will most likely end with both us very regretful with how things turned out I understand why Solas fell in love with Lavellan and why he wanted to be with her. It's the actual decision to be with her I'm having trouble with. There is a clash between the lack of self control the decision implies, but the control he has that he takes the time to come to a decision. Unless he wasn't always sure about where it would end?

Well the Fade kiss scene and subsequent decision time happens just after this awesome elf lady got a Disney song and was named leader of a soon to be continent spanning organization that she has basically united in its common cause. This is the same woman who has either travelled thru time or faced a rather vicious envy demon and convinced templars to pledge some level of fealty to her. And she's closed the Breach thru a level of mastery of the anchor that exceeds all expectations, the original expectation being that it should have burned thru her spirit and killed her outright on day two.
Maybe Solas was reconsidering his plans already.

"It seems you hold the key to our salvation. You have sealed it with a gesture... and right then, I felt the whole world change." (bonus in romance) "You change... everything" (which - by implication - also means "You change ME")

Idk it seems even after doing all that thinking he wasn't sure: in the balcony scene he admits he hasn't forgotten the kiss, which I don't really interpret as "let's get into a relationship" but more as "I can't stop thinking about you", and then when Lavellan goes to make a move he hesitates again. It's only when he realizes he can lose her that he goes for it and admits he loves her. It seems that he had thought about it and the answer was "no", but by then he was too in love with her to stay away; so the decision to be with her wasn't impulsive, it was selfish but he just couldn't help it.
