A canadia... what am I looking at? >D Speaking of outfits - do you think that Solas will show up in his signature Trespasser armor? Or something else... considering that it wasn't really a unique armor, but an ancient elf gear with additional bits thrown in? I'm gonna have to be a heathen and hope for the second option because, full disclosure, I didn't really... like the Trespasser armor. I mean! I didn't terribly hate it, like I do for some of his armors! (Listen can we all collectively agree that the Dalish Keeper armor has just got an atrocious color scheme? And that ankle-length vest thing is not working at all. Not the least because it's glued to his legs when it looks like it should be flapping about.) I feel like the top half actually works pretty well, actually. But it's just... those leggings. Christ. Like he's about to break out into a jazzy Broadway dance number. Also knee faces? And his boots are literally wolf paws? Like he's wearing kid's pajamas????? Wake up, BSN. No, those aren't wolf paws These are standard shoes/armored elf feet. Abelas has the same ones - those are shoes modeled after feet and with multiple layers of metal around ankles. They really haven't done much with the armor, except adding some stuff to the chest, like wolf fur and leather strap decorated with metal tiles, which was grabbed from both of his armors in the main game anyway. I kinda wonder if Solas would go emo... I mean, black and all xD Or maybe we're going to see him in black-green-gold robes that are more similar to stuff we see in Trespasser murals. Though I have to say... if those are supposed to be part of his 'humble guise' I do have to ask what do elaborate elvhen robes look like... Bonus points for DA team if Solas shows up in gear he left with after Cory fight

I was super disappointed there wasn'the even a nod to the Dalish Cheerleader armor from DA:O. It would be great to see Solar in something a little more...fitting to his station without going full Glitterati. As long as it's not brown or covered with dead animals, I'll be happy. I think we got the whole wolf thing, okay BioWare?

What about something based around this? If he is gradually becoming more and more Fen'Harel and less Solas, that would be appropriate.

Bonus points for DA team if Solas shows up in gear he left with after Cory fight Would sure make it easier for a lot of us to find him. Not even the magicks of ancient Elvenhan can hide plaidweave. lol What was Solas' dig at Dorian? "I'm sorry, but I cannot hear you over your outfit!"

I just heard a theory, that I really thought was awesome.
It is that Solas will succeed in removing the veil no-matter what, and then the next games are about creating balance in the world.
Now I so want this! I'm not into the "destroy the world stuff", but imagine that you were placed with the responsibility of creating a world that would survive the removal of the veil. And honestly after seeing the crossroads, i would love to see Thedas recreated.
Solas does predict that the world will fall due to the chaos, not that he will directly harm them in any way. And we all know that Solas's predictions are shit (sorry love, but they are).

There are tons of little hints across all three games that something drastic is coming to Thedas. Whether it is the destruction of the veil, or something else....we shall see.

song sharing time! I found this one while walking and shuffling radio songs on the way to uni, so naturally it took a while for my brain to load the lyrics. But then I did hear them.. and they were stupidly fitting, for my Lavellan at least. (sorry I couldn't find a youtube link)I lent you a hand but you never gave it back I lent you a hand but you never gave it back You said you had grown very fond of my fingers The way that the touch of the tips of them lingers And you couldn't possibly part with them now Carry them 'round In your handbag
And I lent you a light when everything round you was black And I lent you a light when everything round you was black You light your cigarettes ts ts (You said you had grown very fond of my fingers The way that the touch of the tips of them lingers) And then you left
And you need a place to put your hands I said you could lay 'em on my hips You need a place to put your kisses I said you could use my lips
Oh I lent you a shoulder, a shoulder to lean upon I said you could keep it until you were feeling strong But you've taken advantage of my kind loan You carry it 'round town, pass it off as your own And everyone thinks that you're so very kind But nobody knows that that shoulder is mine
And you need a place to put your hat I said you could lay it right there You were looking for some thing to do With all those things that trouble you I said I would lend you an ear
But worst of all I gave you my heart 'Cause yours wasn't working too good But I am not spare parts For you to use, and you to use, like your (do-do-do-do) You use me and you lose me yeah you do
Funny thing is I was days fresh from finishing Trespasser

There are a lot of meaningful, beautiful, moody songs on my playlist, but this one is the one that always comes to mind first when I think of what my canon Lavellan went through with Solas.

And we all know that Solas's predictions are shit (sorry love, but they are). This is one of the tidbits that came up in my perusal of the thread: does a spell end when the one who cast it dies? If so, will the Veil catastrophically disappear if Solas is killed? I admit to a certain amount of glee at the idea of people who want to kill him so badly making the removal of the Veil worse in doing so. As for music, all BioWare games are musicals in my head. Typically one character ends up with the most "big numbers" and Solas was the winner this game, unsurprisingly. I already posted the Lavellan/Solas duet (Sweet Hell) earlier. This one I imagine him singing just after the Fade Tongue scene knowing Dorian can hear him. Lyrics: When I walk down the street Most guys look like elves I don't mean to put them down but they do
It's hard to understand me From the language I use There's no word in English for my style
What's a man like me supposed to do With all this extra savoir-faire? What is left for me to prove, dear?
I know just what to do When the ladies come 'round You can try to copy me but you'll fail
Now, you might think you're different But time will prove me right When you wake up from your dream I'll be gone
What's a man like me supposed to do With all this extra savoir-faire? What is left for me to prove, dear?

I admit to a certain amount of glee at the idea of people who want to kill him so badly making the removal of the Veil worse in doing so. I'd laugh quite hard if it happened. Like "yaaas, we killed the bastard! But wait - what is happening?" and then there's this terrible realization when they put 2+2 together Though IMO it's probably not that simple.... even if hilarious in such potential scenario. I mean, I'm fairly sure Solas is, in one way or another, a 'component' in the Veil, since he's its creator and it's very likely - based on what we know - that it was the creation of the Veil that has drained him so badly that he fell unconscious for millenia and awoke weakened just a year before Inquisition. So it has at least partial basis on his power, nevermind that he's the only one - or one of few - who knows how the damn thing works. It's also probably the reason why he tells Mythal that even though he should pay the price he can't do it because people need him. Question remains whether they 'need' him in a sense that he wants to dismantle it, or he has to continue living in order to maintain the Veil.

I like to think he's removing it for a larger reason than, "Muh buddies is sleepin'!" What that reason might be, however, it's hard to guess. The Blight seems like an easy answer but what will removing the Veil do to slow/stop its spread, particularly via the red lyrium? Is he hoping to awaken more powerful spell-casters from Uthenera to help him drive it back underground? Will the power of spirits magically (pun partially intended) repel the Blight? Can all of that red lyrium be cleansed and returned to its pure, blue state (and do we want that, given how much is all over the surface these days)? Naturally, I have more music up my digital sleeve, as well. This is Solas's big solo, wistful and plaintive, during his conversation with Lavellan at the end of Trespasser: Lyrics: Well, I wish real hard when I close my eyes If I could change the world, would I even try? If I found a reason to regain my pride Oh, if I try to believe Try to believe
It's so hard to find an answer It's so hard to stand alone It's so hard to find a feeling That was buried long ago It's so hard to trust another When it's easier to hide It's so hard to believe Unless we try, baby, try
If I had a dream and it got away If I found the words, would I know what to say? If I had a chance to be someone else Yeah, if I try to believe Try to believe
It's so hard to find an answer It's so hard to stand alone It's so hard to find a feeling That was buried long ago It's so hard to trust another When it's easier to hide It's so hard to believe Unless we try, baby, try
Try to believe one more time And I try, baby, try, baby, try
If I found a door I've never been through Would I have the courage to go in without you? And if time runs short, would I recognize The things I couldn't see If I try to believe Try to believe
It's so hard to find an answer It's so hard to stand alone It's so hard to find a feeling That was buried long ago It's so hard to trust another When it's easier to hide It's so hard to believe Unless we try, baby, try
If we listen to the voices that were silent for so long If you thought they went away Well, you couldn't be more wrong If I tell you there is something that we've Lost but can retrieve If I tell you there is hope If we try to believe
Do you remember there's a dream That we long since put aside With the toys that we discarded And the tears we never cried We could have it once again If we try, baby, try

Things like the Vir'dathara, stabilizing the crossroads, restore elvhen immortality and magic. Spirits will roam freely again and everything that was used to create Arlathan will be restored. I don't think it has anything to do with awaking old "friends". And lets face it, whatever he has planned for the Evanuris, it isn't going to be pretty.

A couple of questions here. You know when we ask him if he is like Mythal and he says no, was there a degree of equivocation there? Whilst he has always been Solas/Dread Wolf what did he absorb at the end of DAI? That would suggest he is now more than the Solas of the time before the Veil. This may have been asked previously but do you think this staff, Freedom's Promise, has anything to do with Fen'Harel? We have heard very little about Aldanon the Wise outside of the item pack for DA2 of which the staff was part. However, even the title given to Aldanon would suggest a person of whom Solas would approve. Also he would agree with the sentiments expressed by Aldanon after Calenhad stabbed him in the back (metaphorically speaking) and enlisted the help of the Circle with its Templars. “A civilization cannot be civil if it condones the slavery of another. And that is what this Circle is! But by accident of birth, those mages would be free to live, love, and die as they choose. The Circles will break—if it be one year, a decade, a century, or beyond. Tyrants always fall, and the downtrodden always strive for freedom!” The writers quoted a claim that Aldanon did not believe in the Maker, which may have been true but it is possible that in fact what he did not believe in was the Maker promoted by the Chantry. The Canticle of Shartan makes it clear that Andraste and Shartan united in the struggle for freedom, not spreading the word of the Maker and when advising Calenhad where to go for more help Aldanon sent him to the Ash Warriors. They believed in fighting for a just cause and were devoted to the Maker but did not acknowledge either the Chantry or the Chant of Light. Having done a bit of research on the matter it would appear that up until Calenhad whilst the Circle was present in Ferelden it did not hold any political power, otherwise Aldanon could not have acted as freely as he did, seeing as he was a mysterious hedge mage from the Frostback Mountains. His dream was clearly to have a kingdom where freedom reigned and not the Chantry, which is why he was so incensed at Calenhad's actions. After that the Chantry grew in power across Ferelden and free mages were gradually hunted down with the approval of the king. I wonder if that is also how it came about that Calenhad's more dubious powers were whitewashed by the Chantry histories and instead they attributed his invincibility to a suit of magical armour crafted for him by the Circle.

The imagery of a canid tied to a tree certainly seems to reflect the story of Fen'Harel and the Tree that Felassan tells Briala. Whether Aldenon knew it as a folk legend passed down through the ages or from a more direct source is impossible to say. And a little mystery to solve would be why there are not one but two wolves tied to the tree on the Freedom's Promise staff.

I was being facetious about his motivation, as a spoof on the reason people seem to give most often for wanting to stop him. "He just wants to wake up any Elven that may or may not still survive." It seems like such a shallow read on his character and flies in the face of the hints we'really given about something fundamentally wrong with the world of Thedas throughout all three games.
I love that the staffs of Freedom and Pride are both what we call puppy staffs in my house. The sheer number of such little touches keeps me going back through all three games to see what other hints and foreshadowing I missed along the way!
