He got a tan as of Trespasser. Clue he's been up north? lol That's just lighting. Well it certainly makes him look nice. I guess that means I think he needs more sun. lol Congrats, Salos fans! I guess we're nothing if not dedicated. One could say we are dreadfully attached to this elf.

Don't worry guys, I know who/what Solas really is as I've beaten the game with my mage, Natasha Trevelyan and my Warrior, Sophie Trevelyan. Natasha romanced Blackwall and Sophie married Cullen. It would have been the other way around but I didn't think it would be quite realistic for Cullen to entirely discard his Templar-Chantry anti-mage ways and thus he was better off with a mundane human warrior wife.
So, Sofie Lavellan is currently romancing Solas. I did "Into the Abyss" yesterday and am due to go into the Dales to do that part of the story and to rescue Solas' friend. Looking forward to seeing what, if any differences there are with him as a lover. So far they've kissed in the Fade but that's about as far as things have gotten.
Do you guys drink from the Well of Sorrows whilst playing as a Lavellan mage or leave it to Morrigan? In my Trevelyan files I left it to Morrigan, but this is different. Sofie is an elf and this could be huge for her elven heritage while Morrigan is a human and a selfish, not-inclined-to-share-one at that.

For my Lavellan is was less about heritage and more about her thinking that Morrigan was clearly just in it for herself and with Corypheus mere minutes away there was no time for an alternative. Someone had to drink it. And when she figures out what the Well would do to her she was much more comfortable going through with it because she fears acting out of ignorance.
Also that whole exchange with Morrigan after meeting with Mythal is you drank amuses me greatly.
Morrigan: I wonder who Mythal is? The Well should tell me. Lavellan: Lady, you are clearly not responsible in any way. I will drink it. Morrigan disapproves Finds out who Mythal is Morrigan: Good thing you drank from the Well then. Lavellan disapproves

I'm not sure there's many of us here who were actually *happy* about what he's doing. I mean, yeah there are some people's characters who would quite happily join up with Solas if they could but actual players? I don't think there are many actual people in this thread who are all, "Yay rip the Veil down and kill everyone yay!" So I wouldn't worry too much about being in this thread and not liking what he's doing hehe. Actually...while my Inquisitor isn't thrilled about Solas removing the Veil and all, but I personally don't have a problem with it. In fact Thedas without the Veil sounds fairly interesting to crazy old me. It is just a game after all. Go Solas! You can do it! *prepares for the eggs, tomatoes, and dynamite about the hurled her way* Hah ... uh, I don't have any eggs, tomatoes, or dynamite to throw. What about nerf balls and comfy pillows? I also think Thedas without a Veil sounds interesting and it's not so much his goal I'm opposed to but his method of achieving it. If there was a way to remove the Veil without the massive amount of chaos and death Solas anticipates I'd be for it. All I can really think of is to maybe gradually weaken the Veil over a long period of time until it eventually doesn't exist anymore, allowing time for the Fade and the physical world to slowly re-integrate. But Solas doesn't seem to think that's possible OR he has some time constraints we're (obviously) not privy to. Also, Solas says that a lot of people (or maybe even everyone) will die when he does what he's planning to do. There won't exactly be much of a "Thedas" left afterwards. It would be much more interesting to see how people adjust in their beliefs and how society evolves without the Veil. That won't really happen if most/all people are dead.

If discarding the Veil leads to the world learning that The Golden City was in fact Arlathan and the Seat of the Maker was actually Elgar'nan's favourite chair..
Then yes. I'm all for it. I can imagine my IQ running back to the Chantry and tell them they've been such a devoted fan of Elgar'nan and that I'm the Herlad of Fen'Harel.

And I love the ability to poke at Morrigan about her now being forced to listen to her mother too much to pass it up. lol

If the massive cataclysm that kills most/all people actually happens the way Solas thinks it will then there's not really much of a world left to find out the truth. Your Inquisitor wouldn't be running back to the Chantry because your Inquisitor would be dead and so would everyone who runs the Chantry. And everyone else (more or less). It's a much more interesting story if the people remain more or less intact AND find out the truth.

I'm wondering now if the Lavellan drinks, and it binds her to Mythal - when Solas does his voodoo to Flemeth at the end, is the Lavellan thereafter bound to Solas?

Whilst this sounds good in theory, surely that is what we were shown in the dark future of Hushed Whispers. There, if Solas is with you, he definitely confirms that the Waking World and the Fade have merged as a result of the Breach gradually widening. It hadn't resulted in instant annihilation for everyone but it certainly wasn't a good place to be. Maybe that was because Corypheus had recruited his demon army before it occurred and other benign spirits had been altered by being pulled through, so that is why everywhere outside of Redcliffe Castle was apparently rampant with demons, but it didn't bode well for a non-Veil reality.
So I'm not sure that a gradual transition would be any better than an instant one and possibly worse in the long run, which is why Solas had opted for the tear down option originally.

It's always better to rip off a bandage as quickly as possible, rather than linger and go slowly when it's sticking to your arm hairs and god knows what else.

So I'm not sure that a gradual transition would be any better than an instant one and possibly worse in the long run, which is why Solas had opted for the tear down option originally. Except that the Breach was a violent explosion that fractured the Veil, creating rifts that forcefully pulled spirits into the physical world. Also, the future of In Hushed Whispers was only a year or so ahead. Not at all what I was talking about, which was a gradual thinning of the Veil over a long period of time. I'm not saying it's the best solution, just trying to maybe think of a less destructive one than basically killing everyone.

It's always better to rip off a bandage as quickly as possible, rather than linger and go slowly when it's sticking to your arm hairs and god knows what else. Or ripping the bandage off causes a lot of pain and possibly more damage. Sometimes letting the sticky just fade (no pun intended) is less damaging and painful even if the skin underneath gets a little pale.

He tells Inky that the Mark will eventually kill them, and that by drawing them to him he can save them 'for now'. TBH though, it's hard to say what he expects to happen.

If Solas could only "restore" elvhenan by sacrificing Lavellan would he do it? Is that what he is doing now? Or does he think the inquisitor will survive? I don't think he's trying to sacrifice Lavellan specifically. It seems to be more like he expects her to die as a result of what he's going to do because he expects most people will die, so it's not like he's targetting HER. And he also expects the same thing will happen to any inquisitor, Lavellan or otherwise. Edit to add: Also, would Solas sacrifice Lavellan to restore the elves (if that's all it took)? Probably. And he'd likely hate himself for it but he seems to be a "good of the many outweigh the good of the few" type of person. Edit #2: I know I said Solas seems to be a "good of the many" type person, which (his current plans notwithstanding) as far as putting one person's life over several, is true enough I believe. So he wouldn't put Lavellan's life over the lives of all elves.

I wonder if the presence of the Veil is also affecting his immortality? It was said that the Veil made Elves lose the immortality due to cutting of their connection to the Fade and I would imagine something similar is happening to him.
I'm sure he knows of other ways to be "immortal" such as 1. Merging his spirit with a person ala Flemeth-Mythal 2. Possessing willing hosts like what Flemeth supposedly does 3. Using a dragon as a horcrux like Corypheus did, which he probably got from the ancient Elves 4. The Zathrian method by binding a spirit
Perhaps he just chooses not to do some of those methods and probably want to be as much of "himself" as possible as all of those methods require another person/ being.

I think he is not sure what will happen to the inquisitor once he achieves his goals. Because the inquisitor did survive for a long time with the mark, they could be a good candidate to survive the veil coming down. But I think he is torn on the outcome he wants.
If they were his friend/lover he wouldn't want them to die. But if they did he wouldn't have to deal with them seeing "what he has become" either.

Then there's the question of, "What will he become?" Is this more a moral quandary, seeing him do something that essentially goes against the will of pretty much the whole of Thedas, or will he physically change into something monstrous when the Veil is removed or during/because of the process? Perhaps a bit of both, the physical reflecting how he feels about his actions?

Perhaps a bit of both, the physical reflecting how he feels about his actions? Considering that magic in Thedas is stuff based on memories and will and can affect the physical, it's possible that how people feel about themselves, their actions (or just feel in general) affects their physical form - nevermind that shapeshifting is a thing. In fact, while Solas is slightly taller and broader than regular modern elf, the ancient elves of yore are implied to be even taller. So his physique may already be shaped either how he feels or how he wants to present himself.

A short story: I crawl through a scorching desert, forcing myself to continue forward. I am parched and starving and know I will die soon. Blearily I look forward and ... wait, there! On the horizon! Hope causes my pulse to quicken and I drag myself to my feet. I lurch forward into a run. My staggering, uneven gait takes me slowly closer. When I arrive at my destination I reach out but there is nothing there. It was a mirage. There is no news about the next Dragon Age game. Tears of despair slide down my cheeks as I fall to my knees and then to the ground. I stare up at the sky and cry out, "Why? WHY?! WHERE IS MY NEWS?!". ..... Ok, I didn't say it was a *good* short story. But this is kinda what I feel like lol.
