You know what I just realized... CapricornSun and I can probably share filthy artwork again without worrying about getting warnings and being banned. EDIT: You know, as long as we spoiler and warn people first. Go for it, but please spoiler tag and post warnings! I have never been more proud to be part of this community I feel like I achived something today. Mostly sharing my love of Riza Hawkeye and posting gifs.

Excuse we while i ROFLMAO → linkEdit : ok i updated my status because i'm a bad grl LOL Heh, and for any curious... that's me the BSN BioWare forums account was retweeting. As far as lewd Solas art goes, as long as you properly tag and spoiler things and follow the ProBoards rules regarding full-on pr0n, there would really be no issue. This place is meant to be more relaxed overall, other than not encouraging members to openly attack each other (which is not exactly an issue at all with this particular thread, so...).

I so hate the fact that it's night for me when it's day for most of the other people on the forum. I end up missing a lot of activity!
Anyway,
Re: pron: nothing against it. I'm surprised people actually got warning points for it when it was spoilered. Was it jealousy or envy at work? Now we'll never know.

I know I have mentioned this before, but playing Trespasser brought it up again so I would like to bring it up for discussion once more. So, we know that the temple of Mythal, temple of Dirthamen and all the temples we see in Trespasser are from the time the Evanuris reigned supreme, correct? That would mean it dates back to a time before the Veil was created. In the temples we see these mosaics: Now, the one I want to talk about is the one above, Falon'Din. His mosaic depicts him with a shepherd's staff, which supposedly was connected to this myth: Obviously this is a myth were at least parts of it are new, as the Veil did not exist during the time of the Evanuris. But if that is the case, why is Falon'Din depicted with his shepherd's staff in the temples? What other symbolic purpose could it possibly have had? The shepherd usually symbolizes someone caring and protective, and from what Solas tells us Falon'Din was anything but that. So is his mosaic simply propaganda that the Dalish would later come to create a whole myth based upon?

The shepherd usually symbolizes someone caring and protective, and from what Solas tells us Falon'Din was anything but that. So is his mosaic simply propaganda that the Dalish would later come to create a whole myth based upon? Interesting. The way I see it... as a shepherd of the souls of the dead, he reminds me of Charon (Kharon) from the Greek mythology, and through him also Hades. Then there are Anubis and Osiris from Egyptean mythology, and Scandinavian one has Hel. The first four are more on the neutral side - think Lawful Neutral or True Neutral, or Kelemvor from DnD... Hel might be more of an evil example. Point is, gods of the underworld were usually morally ambitious, representing death as a natural force that does what it does not out of malice, but because it's a part of the natural order. They are also judges of the souls, so they have to be coldly objective in their judgment, sometimes seeming to be cruel because of that. In most cases, they are more "dark" then "evil". A shepherd doesn't have to be good. A shepherd is not someone kind and caring as much as someone directing a "herd" - in our case, this herd consists of the souls of the dead. So it's basically just a person that shows the dead where to go. This person might be doing it for whatever reason. There might be some twist to this legend that would explain things...

I think what bothers me the most is that if the elves were immortal (although I guess some still died by non-natural causes) and there was no Veil there wouldn't really be any need for him to fulfill that role, yet he is depicted in accordance with the Dalish myth about him. I can't help but wonder what more there is to it...

This direction of thought might be worth looking into. Or maybe that thing is just a mage staff, haha. The Dalish saw it and were like--hey, it looks like a shepherd's staff, so he *must* be the shepherd of the dead.Edit: looks like my suggestion has some merit:

I did consider the possibility that it was merely a mage-staff, but it really doesn't look like one. Also, all of this does beg the question what kind of relationship the Evanuris had with their subjects - were they far away and unreachable or were they more like normal rulers? If the first they would have had to use some kind of stewards (maybe their priests?) and if the latter they would have had a harder time to appear more god-like I think. It's actually quite interesting how the myths connects Falon'Din with out-worldly things when Solas description of him is of a man very much concerned with this world.

If the first they would have had to use some kind of stewards (maybe their priests?) and if the latter they would have had a harder time to appear more god-like I think. It's actually quite interesting how the myths connects Falon'Din with out-worldly things when Solas description of him is of a man very much concerned with this world. Okay, I tried to think about it. The Dalish myth has him as the "friend of the dead", the one who guides the souls from this world into another. This legend has to have some roots. Their Fen'Harel legend was basically true, it's just that the context was quite different. It'd make sense if something like this happened here as well. Now to what Solas says about him - he started a bloody war to get more worshippers and kill those who opposed him, so Mythal was forced to rally the other "gods" to defeat him; he only gave up when he was "bloodied" in his own temple. So, he was arrongant, vain, stubborn. Assuming both are true, the question is - how do we make that connection? How did he go from a bloodthirsty warmonger to the "friend of the dead"? [wild mass guess appears] So if we replace "death" with "uthenera", he'd basically be the god of uthenera. Did all elves, even the "slave" ones, know how to enter it? Because if they did not, they'd view it as someting otherwordly, like a resurrection would be viewed in our world. Now, if Falon'Din and his priests/followers had monopoly on guiding others through uthenera, he actually had a good way of persuading/blackmailing others to worship him for a promise of access to this ritual. And "guiding someone in uthenera" turning into "guiding the souls of the dead" isn't implausible. Of course, the above is a wild jump of imagination that assumes that uthenera was there before the Veil among other things. Maybe he was just killing so much that people started calling him the god of the dead, and the "guiding the souls" part was simply propaganda.
