Ah yes the gatling dwarves .... I hated them so much when I first played Descent lol. What's really really useful for that is the new Mark ability you get in JoH, especially if it's fully upgraded. It's pretty much the only way to survive on Nightmare when fighting the Gatling Dwarves of Descent and certain Hakkonites in JoH. Even with full health, guard and barrier those guys can one-shot-kill your entire party if you're not careful or get caught in the open. The horror, the horror...

Unfortunately I played the descent first so I had no such ability What does it do? I pretty much just winged it and burned a bunch of potions and used my anchor, cassandras special ability and of course Solas fire mine spam. Even then I barely made it, and between me and Blackwall I had two champions in my party....

Just googled it... Wow that's crazy op, but I'm glad they added perks to the mark because Keith them limiting how many active abilities you can even use, there's a lot of worthless points on your character

Aegis of the Rift is a very nice ability, especially as you can cast it and Mark of the Rift at the same time, because Aegis operates independently of the focus bar. The cooldown is relatively quick as well, so it'll usually be available again to cast almost as soon as it drops.
Very OP and by far one of my favourite abilities in the game, especially if I'm playing as a squishy glass-cannon or ranged character.

Focus can build up slowly unless you go for making gear that increases the build up ... but with Aegis you finally get a quick-use ability. And at least you finally get something *really* useful other than a flashing neon sign above your head that says "Inquisitor here" with an arrow pointing at you. Seriously how do people see the Anchor through metal gauntlets? "I see by your hand that you're the Inquisitor" ... I see by that remark that you have x-ray vision!

Hey guys! Not Solas related but t'is elf related. I'm replaying origins and want a male Dalish rouge who romances Morrigan.. Due to the whole eluvian and the fact flemythal asks Hawke to take an amulet to the Dalish elf's origin tribe.. But i have no idea what sort of decisions a Dalish elf would make in terms of help redcliffe or kill Connor or use blood magic to save him or side with mages or templars. I reckon he would side with mages since templars are an arm of the chantry which was responsible for the exhalted march on the dales etc... What is the view of blood magic? I imagine they associate it with Tevinter? I want to make a believable Dalish elf... I get obsessive with my roleplaying. Its a problem, really.

Well, it's a connection to the Fade, so I don't think that could be easily hidden by cloth or metal. It just.....goes through them. Kind of like Fenris' lyrium tattoos are still technically visible through clothing. Too bad it doesn't look that way in-game though.

On the Dalish Warden, I can only tell you how I played it. He liked Alistair, so he did his best to help resolve matters in Redcliffe in the best possible way he could. He saw no reason to agree with the annulment until he had assured himself that the mages were beyond all help, so saved all those that he could and then reported back with Irving to reassure Greagoir that the annulment was no longer necessary. Then Irving and others helped save Connor. On the sacred ashes quest, he wouldn't help the Disciples corrupt the ashes because the Dalish respect Andraste and then Shartan confirmed their stories about him were true, which made him hate the Chantry even more, particularly as the Chantry sister in Denerim told him about them removing Shartan from the Chant.
On the subject of blood magic, my view is that Dalish would generally be against it because of all that elves suffered in the past through its use in Tevinter. This prohibition would have been established back in the time of the Dales. There is a codex with the story about one of the early arrivals in the Dales and all he suffered at the hands of his master over the years and I imagine that sort of story would have been quite common among the slave refugees, so it would have become ingrained in their collective memory that blood magic is something associated with Tevinter and therefore taboo. We know that some Dalish have ignored this down the years but are generally considered outcasts as a result. Plus since adopting their nomadic lifestyle, there is also the increased danger of possession from using blood magic which puts the clan at risk.
The decision over the dark ritual is also an interesting one. Naturally if you are romancing Morrigan then you are more likely to take the option. However, by that stage my Dalish had somewhat fallen out with Morrigan over his relationship with Zevran but more importantly, so far as he was concerned, the old gods of Tevinter had been complicit in the destruction of Arlathan, so the last thing in the world he wanted to do was save one of them. Morrigan tried every argument in the book to try and persuade him, including telling him to think of Zevran. Man, that annoyed him, given her previous attitude, and confirmed him in his determination to refuse her. In hindsight, if Flemeth wanted Urthemiel saved, she would have done better to tell my Dalish Warden she was Mythal and then he might have agreed to the proposal. Without that knowledge, though, he had no desire to save the old god and every reason to see it destroyed.

I wasn't aware that things with a connection to the Fade are supposed to be visible through solid objects. I also didn't know that Fenris' markings were supposed to be visible through his armor. Is it in WoT? I've read the first one but (still) haven't gotten around to reading the second. Yeah, I'm a slacker!

No, that's just my opinion based on "Fade thingy." But re: Fenris, yes. He has a banter with Varric about it - Varric says he should try to hide them so he doesn't scream "slave" all the time. Fenris replies that the markings would still show, which Varric thinks is kinda cool. The banter starts at about 1:40 of this video:

Oooh that banter. Yeah that one always confused me a little. Varric starts talking about how Fenris dresses and then Fenris makes a comment on his markings ... but tattoos don't necessarily imply "slave" so I'm not sure where Fenris was going with that. It was just an odd reply to what Varric said. But then Varric's comment of how Fenris' appearance screamed, "I hate you all, I was a slave" is also strange because ok I can see how the dark, spiky armor could say "I hate you all" but I'm still not getting how it implies Fenris was a slave. Or it could just be my tendency to take things too literally.

Well, they couldn't say much apart from "Well, that was interesting!" Cassandra and anyone else younger than thousands of years don't know anything about Titans - this is literally the first time anyone has become aware of their existence since possibly the days of Arlathan. In Solas' case, what could he say that wouldn't give away that he is more than an apostate hobo helping you out of the goodness of his heart?
I agree though, it would have been nice for the companions to at least express awe of some sort - but if you've got a limited word budget, I suppose that a simple expression of awe that can't be much more than that would be one of the first things that get cut in favour of more important dialogue.

Yea I understand they probably didn't want to pay voice actors and actresses again for something not totally vital but they could definitely say more than ooh and ahh!
I honestly didn't expect anything I encountered in this dlc (which I had to stop playing because the final level kicked my ass too bad, lol. Too low level). That's why sometimes you can't just read about the lore, gotta see it for yourself.
Edit: aside from dark spawn, I expected that.

Yeah, most regular companions only have 1 or 2 lines since so much of the dialogue is scripted with Valta and Renn. Still, you should take Varric at the very beginning at least once to hear the story he tells on the ride down.

Tell me jaws of hakkon they're more talkative...
All I know is I need Cassandra (who I take always anyway) for loveable disgusted noises to bear puns, lol.

But then you can also get the normal random banters when wandering around the Frostback Basin. As well as dlc specific comments for certain events. You normally bring Solas along, right? Because there's one cutscene in particular that I think made most of us snerk a bit.
