Why am I not surprised that all that was needed to lure thread-dad back into the open were pics of delicious pastries... I love how pastries are so easy to justify as relevant to the solas thread :nods: it's wonderful

Tanyara I haven't eaten a single one today! I am a disgrace to my country... We should totally bake some cinnamon rolls and some chokladbollar and send to NightSymphony so she can drown her solavellan angst the best possible way! Mmmm chokladbollar... We really should! And some strong swedish coffee to go with it all. If it can get northerners through the sunless winter then it can definitely help us survive the hellspiral. A splash of strong spirits(heh) in the coffee can be helpful as well. And on some nights, far far up north, you might see the beautiful shimmering of the thinner parts of the Veil. Aaaand then the feels hit you again with full force. Damnit. *pours more booze into coffee* (ps. I have sadly not eaten any either :/ Was planning to make some today, but we had run out other flour. Tomorrow I will get my revenge though^^) now I want some sweets. damn .... these days in the canteen I had these They are called "buchteln" with vanilla sauce here in austria. also known as "SWEET AUSTRIAN YEAST BUNS". maybe that helps against the angst too?

I had to make cinnamon rolls. I was going to just buy some from the bakery, but they looked terrible. Their last box was over cooked and the frosting looked like cupcake frosting. So I grabbed a pan of frozen to bake. BUT the kids had brownies left over from the other night, so we are saving them for tonight I will enjoy them while I work on my latest Solavellan fic. (Evidently, I didn't have enough fics to keep up with so I'm starting a new one. )

I am very positive and hope everything will be fine then my hope will be even more crushed if it's not.

I had my very first Solas dream last night. Set in modern times, and Blackwall was there too. Solas and I had magic (woo!). There was affection and snuggles. Then there were the aliens, disguised as humans, one of whom was running around assaulting random people. We decided I would be bait. They didn't show up to save me and I ended up running from the bad guy until the dream ended. So...that could have gone better.

Hi there, I was over copying some elvish from the Wiki that I hadn't done before, one of which was Fen'Harel's secret greeting from Trespasser. I don't often get this in my play throughs as I don't drink from the Well. Now the Wiki says that the translation for this greeting is unknown but something struck me when looking at the last part: "Revas vir-anaris". Revas is freedom, vir is way or path but anaris (with a capital A) is the name of one of the Forgotten Ones. So the text is essentially "Freedom by way of Anaris." Names often seem to have a meaning, like Solas being Pride, so I wonder what anaris means? Whilst people may argue that the Forgotten Ones may not be as bad as the Dalish say, this seems disproved by the actions of the elves of the Tirashan, who appear to still worship them. So I wouldn't have thought that "anaris" means anything good if that is the case.
Do you suppose the person who wrote this wasn't aware of the name of one of the Forgotten Ones, given by Felassan in Masked Empire when telling one of his stories of Fen'Harel? Or is there some clue here about the connection between Fen'Harel and the dark pantheon. In the story, Andruil has captured Fen'Harel and tied him to a tree, intending he should serve her in bed for a year for the crime of hunting her halla without permission but as she is making camp for the night, Anaris turns up and wants to kill Fen'Harel for crimes against the Forgotten Ones. They fight over who should have him and Fen'Harel manages to trick them both and escape. It specifically says that he aids Anaris by telling him of a weakness in Anduril's armour that enables him to wound her and then baits Anaris (distracting his attention from the battle) by claiming that Anaris now owes him his freedom. Then whilst his attention is on Fen'Harel, Andruil strikes him from behind and both gods have to sleep to heal their wounds.
The Dalish have always taught that he managed to trick both sets of gods into becoming trapped, so I wonder if Felassan's story has some hidden truth in it. Still it seems odd that his secret greeting has such a close connection to one of the Forgotten Ones.

Still it seems odd that his secret greeting has such a close connection to one of the Forgotten Ones. Might not refer to that Anaris. The elven graveyard in the Exalted Plains is called Var Bellanaris, translated as"Our Eternity". Var Bellanaris (Wikia)
The meaning of "Revas var-anaris" might mean "Path of eternal freedom" or something more poetic. Or not. However, the most of the elven language in Dragon Age is based on a cipher, so that the writers don't have to go and make up words and make a mess. And since most of the later elven pantheon had names that meant something, that also may be true for the previous deities.

So I wouldn't have thought that "anaris" means anything good if that is the case. Considering that Solas's (or Abelas') name isn't just a personal name, but a name for a concept, it's not hard to argue that the greeting doesn't refer to a person, but some sort of idea that may or may not have little to do with Forgotten Anaris. Now... where did you get any indication that Tirashan elves worship forgotten gods? Did I miss something?? So far it seems all we know is that they wear strange red vallaslin and that they're hostile to people living at the edges of Tirashan. There's nothing I know of that suggests Tirashan elves worship Forgotten ones, Evanuris, Fen'Harel or whoever else (doubtful in case of Fen'Harel, since his whole schtick was removing vallaslin and not making people wear it... but the truth is we don't even know if those are ancient elves and if they are - if they aren't some sort of crazed sect that during millenias has built some sort of sinister mythology around Fen'Harel and his rebellion). The only clues we have are elven grafitti scattered throughout landscape in DAI - same elven grafitti we later see all over Fen'Harel's sanctuary. This seems to suggest that at least portion of them seems to depict Fen'Harel's rebellion and war with Evanuris. Coincidentally the first one depicts 'hollowed out' elves (figures with holes where heart and mind is) bearing red vallaslin, seemingly enslaved - and the ones we know who were described as 'enslaving thousands' were the Evanuris.

Just wanted to drop off a weird fact: Solastalgia is a feeling of unease or unhappiness at the decline of the environment around oneself and being unable to do anything about it.
Solas + talgia= Solas' entire story. Coincidence? Or intentional?

Some of it, a lot of it, seems to hint at the unsavoury. I wouldnt be surprised to find out he somehow inadvertently caused Mythal's murder at this point. There's a lot more here that we aren't seeing, and I'm almost afraid of what is going to be explained once we get the entire story.

I actually wondered that same question, and did some research to figure it out. Apparently the Tirashan elves were first mentioned in the Last Court, and the little story they appeared in was titled "The Forgotten Ones," and talked about how said elves didn't call upon their gods. It's not a solid confirmation, I suppose, but it seems a bit weird for a small codex on elves with explicitly atypical religious practices to be titled "The Forgotten Ones." If that's not what we're supposed to take away from it, then it's misleading for sure. Similarly the wiki entry on the Forgotten Ones claims there are outcast Dalish cults who still worship them (Listing the Tirashan as one) but I don't recall that ever being anywhere in the games, so... grain of salt there. As for Anaris - Flemeth's name among the Dalish is Asha Bellanar, which is translated to mean Woman of Many Years, and Bellanaris means eternity. As such, Anar probably means year, so perhaps Anaris means time, or the decay associated with time, or some other such related concept. On the subject of the Forgotten Ones - I still say they were fellow rebels with Solas, who probably went too far and started acting like Evanuris themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if that's proven completely wrong, but I can't find enough information on them to formulate anything better.
