I always fall in love with pixelart, but Solas is literally just an egg on a body. And I can't unsee it anymore. I'm sorry everyone. The only thing I can't unsee is "rogue" spelled incorrectly. Many years ago, this typo did not bother me because people make mistakes after all. But after years and years of seeing this corrected over and over, I feel absolute rage when I see it. I have a feeling that the creator of this otherwise very nice pixel art has been told a million times that they spelled it wrong, and yet, they have not corrected it. What does this mean for our society and the future of our children and the welfare of our elderly? smh

I wrote ect. for an embarrassing period of ignorance, not realizing it was correctly abbreviated as etc. I even pronounced it as ehkt in my head xD oh, well. Live and learn. On a more Solas related note, I've been creeping around Andromeda lately out of interest in the pre-release atmosphere and noticed a lot of people are already latching on to certain characters even though there's not much substantial information out about them yet. If you became invested in Solas before the game came out, why? Or, for a question more people will probably be able to answer, if Solas was your first romance for your first play through, why'd you choose to go with him? Did it happen naturally with the character you created or was it preplanned and for what reasons? I've shared my Solas story before. I was so excited for Inquisition that I came up with the characters I wanted to play-- their personalities, race, class and looks, a couple months before the game came out. I knew my first play through would be my only female Lavellan play through. And then however much time later, I found out that Solas was to be race and gender gated, meaning that I had to give my female Lavellan to him I sweated my options for a bit, I could just have played a Trevelyan and then romance the far better looking Cullen (bad, shallow self) who I knew from previous games, but then I snuck onto the Solas spoiler thread to learn some things about him and people were guessing he had something to do with Fen'Harel. Well, that won me over. Come hither drama! I welcome you! ... little did I know the full extent of what I was getting into.

We knew a little more of Solas back then than we do now with MEA characters, and I stopped visiting the old BSN like 3-4 months before the release, when the first thread with spoilers from a leak appeared. But by then we already knew some tidbits, like that he was an apostated that lived on his own, wondering around Thedas, and that we was a mage very interested in the fade or something like that. Someone especulated that he could be a dreamer and I think Gaider answered surprisingly fast to deny it, which was curious Also, Weekes answered some questions, and gave some insights into his personality, and I remember that one of the writters said that if he was a candy or a food, can't remember (a question from a fan, I think) he would be a scotch bonnet candy. It's funny to think about all that knowing all we know now All in all I remember expecting a quiet man, smart, with the plus of "elf", "mage" and "fade" and since Dorian was not an option for a female Inquisitor, I had no doubt that he was my best shot to get a LI that I could like and it was the first romance I tried. Freaked out a little about the break-up (really?, seriously?, did I screw up in a dialogue or something?), but loved it, and would have gone straight to Solas in the second pt again, but I forced myself to see some of the others romances at least, so I completed Cullen's and gave it a try to IB's but never completed it (didn't mind the s&m stuff, but the "i know what you need" tone of it all was very not for me), and made a male elf for Dorian. After that, has been Solas everytime, except for one pt where I went with Sera. And btw, speaking of MEA, I have the feeling that my future PCs's love life it's totally ruined thanks to Inquisition, all I want is Solas in space too Poor sisRyder, she will never know that the reason she doesn't find anyone to her liking is that she compares everyone to an elf she doesn't even know

I remember people talking about Weekes saying Solas was just an apostate. Just an apostate my-- The break-up scene didn't have the same emotional impact for me that it did a lot of other people. I just assumed it was temporary, like other two breaks that happen with male elf romances. I actually sped through the game from there waiting for them to resolve their issues (by them I mean Solas, because it was on him!) and wow was I in for a shock when the game ended without any resolution. I was in serious denial too. When Solas first left the party I didn't freak out. I'd see him at the very end of the game, right? When I noticed I could go to the Inquisitor's quarters after I was done at the party I briskly talked to everyone because I was sure Solas would be up there or something involving him would happen. And then my Lavellan looked out into the mountainscape, processing the changes to her life and what just happened while I was being slammed with the realization that yes, the game was ending without any furter Solas interaction. But wait, what's this? Oh, Solas is Fen'Harel. Well, sh*t. Haha, I am absolutely obsessed with Solas, but he's not going to stop any of my future characters from finding love. And one Solas is enough for me

Did it happen naturally with the character you created or was it preplanned and for what reasons? Well - for starters, I never plan out my PCs. My first play through is almost always the completionist befriend-everyone run anyway, which does not lend itself well to consistent role-playing. So I never really planned out a story beforehand. However, I did take a bit of a shine to Solas pre-release, but only after I read his character bio and sat on the information for a few days. He's one of the only companions, save maybe Morrigan, who seems genuinely enthusiastic about magic and wants to study it more for the sake of knowledge - something about that scholarly but solitary nature grabbed me. Even then I still wanted to go with Cullen, since I knew him from Origins and 2 and was interested to see where they'd go with his character. But unfortunately, come Inquisition, I learned that they didn't really go anywhere with his character (IMO, at least.) and next to Solas' intrigue and novelty, switching was an easy choice for my Lavellan. And that fade kiss had nothing to do with it. Nuh-uh. Nothing at all. Especially that stupid sneaky smile of his when he says "Wake up." It had no bearing whatsoever. (cough) Ahem, uh, yes! Anyway. I can understand setting your sights on a character once we know their backstory and personality, but people who latch onto a character when we only have their appearance kinda baffle me too. That being said, I am somewhat disappointed that Andromeda has yet to reveal any cute alien boys. Dammit Bioware, I'm a simple woman with simple needs, and one of those needs is kissable space boyfriends, apparently. That Liam guy's not unattractive, but I didn't go all the way to another galaxy just to romance the same boring old humans, and the one line of personality we have of him makes him sound like a generic friendly buddy character, a la Vega or - well, Cullen. Nice enough, but also a bit boring. I guess I'll have to wait and see if I'm wrong.

I also like accents Not that appearance matters much in the end. The Egg stole my Lavellan's heart and my free time and although he's grown on me, I definitely did not find him initially attractive. Accents do matter though, or voice appeal in general

I was so late to the game that DAI had been out for a while before I picked it up and started playing. Which involved getting DAO & DA2 and playing those first, because I needed to. I didn't plan anything, didn't know much starting my first run. I started watching bits and pieces of the romance vids after I was about halfway through though. Which ruined any chance of a Blackwall romance for me. I did know about Solas ending the relationship before starting the first romance with him, but I like his character so much that there was no way my Lavellan wasn't going to flirt with him. There is no going back now.

There is no going back now. I found DA pretty late too, though not that late! I started Origins in July of 2014 and after I completely fell in love with it, I looked for sequels, and low and behold a third installment was coming out. I was actually able to pace myself until late August before I started DA2, expecting that I'd only have to wait until October for Inquisition's release... then it was pushed back Luckily my boredom led me to the BioWare forums, so it all worked out in the end! How'd you find the forums? Did you play any previous BioWare games before DA?

On a more Solas related note, I've been creeping around Andromeda lately out of interest in the pre-release atmosphere and noticed a lot of people are already latching on to certain characters even though there's not much substantial information out about them yet. If you became invested in Solas before the game came out, why? Or, for a question more people will probably be able to answer, if Solas was your first romance for your first play through, why'd you choose to go with him? Did it happen naturally with the character you created or was it preplanned and for what reasons? As much as I tried to avoid spoilers by going dark from the forums a few days before release, I ended up getting spoiled for the ending of the game and the reveal about Solas. I knew that Corypheus was in the game, but I thought he was going to be a secondary antagonist, so I clicked a video not realising it was the final battle of the game. I mostly stumbled through my first playthrough with a Mage Trevelyan who romanced Cassandra. I enjoyed my second playthrough more because I knew more of what I was doing, which was my Solavellan run. I created a Mage Lavellan specifically for Solas because I'd heard good things about the romance and thought I'd give it a try, not expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. Needless to say, Lavellan quickly cemented herself as my canon Inquisitor. I've not actually replayed the romance with another female Lavellan, because I don't think I can top how perfect she was, it was like lightning in a bottle. Prior to Inquisition, I was actually looking more forward to Cullen. I spent a lot of time with the Cullenites in the years prior to Inquisition, looking forward to seeing if he'd be in the game and as a romance option. As it turns out, I've still not entirely finished a Cullenmance run in Inquisition, although I have completed most of his romance content. My first attempt at Cullenmancing failed because it was right after my Solasmance... which slightly broke me, if I'm honest.

I remember how they told us about Solas but not whether you could romance him or not and we spent weeks wondering if it was going to be possible and then were told by Gareth that "we would not be disappointed". That was an understatement. There were only ever two people I was seriously interested in romancing, Solas and Dorian, which meant it was a toss up between my first play through being as a female elf or a gay male elf. I worked out my back story for my female elf first and so went with Solas. I was hooked from the first because he did seem so intelligent and approved of me being kind and helpful to people, plus he wasn't constantly bickering with my companions; even when he disapproved of them, it seemed to me that he did it in a well reasoned, thoughtful way. Do you remember them dubbing Cole, Cassandra and Cole "Team mutually respectful theological debate"? That is how it came across to me in his conversations with everyone. And he wasn't above apologising if he realised on reflection that he might have been a bit strong in voicing his opinions. What a contrast with my previous love interest, Fenris. I also rather liked the idea that he seemed a bit shy at first about starting a relationship, even though that did force me into being uncharacteristically pushy about making it happen. I was puzzled when he broke things off but thought there must be a good reason and it would not be permanent. (If I could put up with a two year break by Fenris I could allow Solas a bit of time to chew things over).
What really upset me was that he had promised me an explanation once we had dealt with Corypheus and then he just went off straight after the battle. I never enjoyed the celebrations that first time round, I was so thoroughly role playing the character and all she could think about was that Solas wasn't there. Then when she went to her room and she stood there all alone, it was tragic. She had promised herself that Solas would never die alone as he feared and then there she was left all alone by him. I found that very hard to forgive because I knew from the epilogue that he had been deceiving her, although she did stand by him for the next two years, waiting for him to fulfil his promise. Then the rotten writers pulled that horrid marriage joke and Solas revealed himself to her. Poor girl.
I was rather luckier. I immediately replayed with my gay elf, romanced Dorian, was able to feel the joy at defeating Corypheus and mended my broken heart with a lovely couple looking off into the sunset together scene. Then in Trespasser they sent my boyfriend back to Tevinter without me. (I just can't catch a break) Still we do keep in touch by the Thedas equivalent of the mobile phone which is better than nothing and certainly better than him haunting my dreams.

That wedding joke was the worst. I spent the rest of Trespasser thinking something good was going to happen to my Lavellan because of that. But no. Kicked in the teeth. Again. Poor Lavellan. At this point it's all about endurance.

Lavellan Greatly Approves I was so late to the game that DAI had been out for a while before I picked it up and started playing. I didn't find the forums until I went online looking for an answer for something DA-related and was directed to the original BSN. Hardcore lurked over there (the Cullen & Solas threads were the ones I read the most). I played SWTOR but I don't think that counts, even though it's Bioware. I picked the DA & ME series up at the same time, after being told if I liked RP that they were good games for it.

I had played DAO years ago, tried but failed to get interested in DA2, then forgot about Dragon Age until I found out quite by accident that a third title had just been released and that Cullen was a love interest. I did remember the templar from DAO, as I'd played a mage then, and was interested enough to buy the game and start playing it as a mage Trevelyan. I'm not usually one for reading forums, much less participating in it, but while looking for something about a quest, I started seeing rumors about that plot twist concerning the elven apostate. I quite liked Solas from my playthrough as his point of view on magic and spirits was quite refreshing compared to everyone else's fear of the Fade. I came to the old bsn's Solas thread and... I admit I completely spoiled myself even before I finished my Trevelyan playthrough. Still, I was almost done and I liked goofy Cullen and how sweet his romance was, so I hurried up and finished, just so I could start all over again with a Lavellan (a rogue since I'd just played a mage).
It's the first and last game I've ever done two playthrough back to back, and I do NOT regret it. Lavellan became my canon run and the rest, as they say, is history.

(I just can't catch a break) Still we do keep in touch by the Thedas equivalent of the mobile phone which is better than nothing and certainly better than him haunting my dreams. Hey guys! Yeah! I thought so too... but then realized he never promised an explanation just that everything would be made clear, which would have been clear alright if the orb wouldn't have broken! Also idk if it's just me but I like the ending so much better if you are alone or broken up, that moment is so powerful and I feel like an LI there takes away from it a little
