another thing, btw, I've been wondering, does any of you have or know of any interesting speculations or ideas of any kind about the wolf jawbone necklace? I don't know, meaning, origin, purposse, anything I kind of think its just Solas's unique fashion style. He always have to wear something that's wolf related. In Trespasser the necklace is gone, but he has a wolf pelt over his shoulder that goes low enough to cover his crotch, which just so happens to be decorated with a wolf's tooth. With Solas's fashion style there are 2 rules, (1) there got be something related to wolves cause wolves are cool, and (2) got keep the crotch area covered at all times. Solas loves wolves so much, but it would look ridiculous if he went around in a wolf fur suit so he has to make do. But he could still be wearing it underneath, no? I know it's surely nothing, but recently in a dream that had nothing to do with DA, who knows why suddenly, out of nowhere, I thought "of course, the jawbone it's a key" silly dreams stuff, but then I thought, what if the jawbone is actually something? And since there has been so much speculation around him, and I've missed most of it, I thought maybe there was an interesting theory floating around I didn't know of... I mean, unlikely as it is that necklace has any meaning, I'm kind of surprised there isn't one

Maybe Solas is like a magical girl and the wolf's bone is his magic-Dread-Wolf transforming device. He kisses his jawbone necklace, shouts "Dread Wolf Metamorphosis!" Then he becomes a giant, 6 eyed wolf.

Now I keep thinking of Solas as a magical girl from the anime "Tokyo Mew Mew." After Solas is done with his magical, very sparkly transformation sequence he is not a wolf, but just has wolf ears, a tail, and is wearing this outfit. cheesiestart.tumblr.com/post/107852056585/ah-yes-the-dread-poodle-with-thighs-of-steelBut with the jaw bone moved to hang on his crotch. "Elven style, elven grace, elven power in your face." "Lavellan-chan."

I'd give a lot to see all Evanuris' hilarious Power ranger-like transformation scene. someone: The Titans attack! Evanuris: alternatively this:

Oh, right, here's another thing I was supposed to ask about. I've noticed that there's a trend in recent games to use facescans of real people for many game characters - MEA also has a few. I kinda wonder if this is a trend for ME only or will it spill over to other BW franchises, future DA titles included. TBH I don't know what to think about it. I mean, I think this is generally a trend that will stay with us. Games are the hottest new medium of our times and eventually it'll seep through and meld with other branches of entertainment. We're already seeing actors either dipping their toes or migrating to games in search for jobs or opportunities to make money, so they'd likely embrace the industry wanting to borrow their faces. And yet... while I'm fine with a recognizable face from time to time, or real faces being a starting point, or a character to bear certain features of, say, a chosen actor or VO... I think I generally would prefer for game character faces to stay unique, rather than just straightforwardly borrow faces of real people. But that's just how I feel about it. Perhaps seeing recognizable faces is no different than seeing favorite character's faces being redesigned, like in case of recurrent characters from older titles seen in Frostbite engine in DAI? I have my doubts that they'll redesign them yet again for DA4 - both games will likely have very similar styles, even if DA4's will be more refined. So in the end I kinda wonder if - and if we do then how many - new characters will bear faces of someone we know? OR will DA franchise stick to designing unique characters all throughout the life of the series? It's sort of already happened with MotA DLC for DA2... Tallis's face is totally Felicia Day's.

I don't know how I feel about Solas with hair. Most of the fan art with hair has him with hairstyles from the concept art, which were all rejected because they didn't suit the person Solas became. So it always looks off to me. If they wanted him to have hair in the next game for some reason (to disguise himself, maybe?) I'm sure they would come up with something that works for him. Hopefully something plain.
Anyway, what is it with Solas and keeping his crotch covered at all times? I guess he thinks we wouldn't be able to handle all that Elvhen glory...

I like Solas the way he is, without hair. I don't mind the fan art with hair because often the artist is intentionally drawing the younger, more hot-blooded elf he himself says he once was. I think that if he shows up with hair in-game it would be a little jarring at first - just like it is when a friend shows up with a drastic new haircut or someone you haven't seen in a long while has either grown or removed the facial hair you were used to seeing them with. You get used to it pretty quick. The devs did say that they chose to make Solas bald because that was the 'style' that made him look most timeless and wise. Now that we know who he really is, I suppose he doesn't really have to look timeless and wise any longer. However, Trespasser took place several years after you last saw Solas, and he hasn't grown any hair by then, so it's likely he won't for the next time we see him.

I'd prefer him with no hair I think it's because I'm so used to seing him like he is now, I guess. But whichever floats the Dev's boat. Just make him look cool

After all the incessant whining about his baldness leading up to DAI's release and afterwards, I must admit I still kind of have an allergy to Solas with hair. I don't picture him ever getting it either since his shiny dome is such a defining characteristic now.
Besides, every time I see people try to put hair on his in-game model, it never looks right.

More to the point, why has every ancient elf we have met thus far been bald? Even the paintings show them as bald. This is just not a case of shaving their heads; they literally have no hair. Interestingly enough, PW never says exactly what Felassan looks like in Masked Empire, merely that he does have some form of vallaslin (which may not have been genuine vallaslin either in formation or design), so he may well have been bald too. Then it becomes a mystery why modern elves have hair. Did they not descend from the ancient elves? Were there in fact two distinct groups of ancient elves, the gods/nobility/priests who were bald and the servant/slave class who had hair?
Was it just the amount of time that they lived for? So get to over hundred years and all your hair falls out? After all Zathrian was bald and he had lived several centuries. I'm being a bit flippant here. I'd really like some explanation for why the ancient elves do in fact seem a different race to modern elves, which makes Abelas' comment about them being "not my People" a bit more understandable.
I would imagine that if Solas wanted to change his appearance with magic he probably could but I'd only want them to do that with him because he was deliberately disguising himself. Even so, I would not be happy with such a plot device because for you not to know it was Solas, he would have to change his voice as well. Otherwise you would have this disconnect again, like there was in Trespasser, between what you as a player know and what your PC is aware of, which for me spoils the immersion.

Were there in fact two distinct groups of ancient elves, the gods/nobility/priests who were bald and the servant/slave class who had hair? I recall Patrick Weekes explaining on his twitter that Solas uses magic to stop his hair from growing. It's possible that having no hair to be bothered with - especially if one spends long time in Uthenera and doesn't want to be chocked by their own hair, if they keep growing during their sleep - is just a matter of sheer practicality. Still, we do see ancient elves with hair on Solas's mural:

I posted about the mosaics of the Evanuris a number of pages back - I am not so sure that every ancient elf was bald based on those. The tesserae suggest hair on several of them. And there is also the mural midnight tea has posted.

Those ones with Fen'Harel are escaped slaves though, which is why I wondered if shaving the head/having no hair is something specific to the Evanuris and their devoted acolytes. The mosaics of the gods definitely show them with no hair and all the sentinels were likewise bald. If PW says they did this with magic to avoid problems with hair growing in uthenera, that would make sense but it would be nice to have it confirmed.
However, perhaps it was something associated with status, so lack of hair is connected with rank in society.
Have taken a look at the mosaics and I see what you mean about possible stylised hair. The mosaics always struck me as weird looking anyway with an alien feel to them. Of course, since these people were likely shape changers anyway and lived in permanent contact with the Fade, where you can change things with a thought, may be the Evanuris could vary their appearance as the whim took them. According to the warning of the Evanuris, even Fen'Harel could take many forms, so I suppose it is not beyond the bounds of possibility that the next time we see Solas he will be sporting hair in a style unique to himself.
