Found it! I slightly misremembered though, Fenris didn't care for Lavellan (yet) in that scene. Very protective Dread Wolf though ^^ The fanfic consists of the main story (Waking Up) and then two different endings (Finders, Keepers and I See You) depending on what you're shipping  . Written by the amazing ElvenSister.

I think that the author sometimes misuses commas (not a big issue for me though), but it is a really good fanfic. Had forgotten about it but now I want to reread it.

Just thought I'd mention about the meaning for Glandivalis. I know I've brought this up before but I can't remember where. Anyway, in WoT2 there is a poem called Where the Willows Wail that is a popular local lullaby in Denerim and was originally catalogued as an Alamarri war poem. Then it says that new light was thrown on the poem because of the similarities it bore to an elven poem on a small carved tablet from the recently discovered Temple of Mythal. It says that making a literal translation was difficult because of the way it differs greatly from modern Dalish. The translation says:

We/it lost eternity or the ruined tree of the People, (Tel'enara bellana bana'vhenadahl)
Time won't help when the land of dreams is no longer our journey (Sethen'a ir san'shiral, mala tel'halani)
We try to lead despite the eventual failing of our markings. (Ir sa'vir te'suledin var bana'vallaslin)
To the inevitable and troubling freedom we are committed. (Vora'nadas san banal'him emma abel revas)
When we could no longer believe, we lost glory to war. (Ir tela'ena glandival, vir amin tel'hanin)
When the Wolf failed/won, we lost the People to war. (Ir tela las ir Fen halam, vir am'tela'elvahen)

Clearly the poem is about how the survivors felt after the raising of the Veil. The last line is rather poignant since Solas could have been said to have both failed and won in his actions, considering the affect on his people.

The bit that was particularly interesting was the word "glandival" that is clearly the root of "Glandivalis". From where it is placed in the sentence I think it is the word for "believe". So the sword that Andraste gave to Shartan probably either meant "believer" or possibly "keep faith" with their aims of freeing the slaves, since she it is said she handed to him with the words "Take this my champion and free our people forever". It is noticeable that Shartan still appears outside the Canticle of Shartan, but under the title "the Liberator", which is presumably why the passages weren't removed as people would not obviously identify them with him without the other Canticle. But when they were preparing to light the pyre, the Liberator drew his sword (Glandivalis) and charged the pyre with a hundred of his people to try and free Andraste (unlike all the human warrior who just stood there and watched please note) but they were struck down by a storm of arrows.

I am now interested in discovering whether it was Shartan who named the sword, as one source suggests, or if it already had that name, as the Canticle seems to show. If the latter, then Glandivalis came to Andraste from her mother, a Ciriane whose tribe occupied the area roughly where the Dales is today. Then an elven poem about the Dread Wolf ends up in an Alamarri war poem and scholars also seem to think that some aspects of an elven folk tale about a "trickster warrior who fought against tyrants" also ended up in the Canticle of Shartan.

That makes too many coincidences for me. I really wonder if Glandivalis originally belonged to Fen'Harel and its full title means "believer (in freedom)".

Hah, you know with as often as I use that outfit I never really noticed it. Goes to show that my focus is precisely on that hand-butt action and a little bit of overactive imagination

Precisely why I use it. Hehe. Something tells me Solas can appreciate an outfit that accentuates certain womanly features That's why she has to stop and visit him every now and again in that outfit just so he can get a nice view

cause its like.. right now, he is his cause. he also seems to think achieving his cause will end in (maybe requires?) his death (if he stays with Lavellan and does not die so that he can be with her, he therefore does not achieve his cause). I also think there's something in there about how Lavellan, as a modern elf (even one he loves) is part of the Current World and therefore not compatible with the world he's trying to bring about.

Yeah, it seems that the betrayal of himself is the betrayal of his principles. Which is why he can't be with Lavellan...but his grand plan betrays his principles, too. This dude is so complicated.
