I mean - I guess it is a bit of a leap in logic, since the games never outright say it. (And I don't take any theory for certain until it's outright said.) but to me it seems like that is where it's going. I'm also a fan of the "elves are embodied spirits" theory but I think this is an extension of that - the Fade is the source of magic in the world, and spirits are inherently magical. Taking up a body can provide some lasting defense against the mundane world, but inherently magical creatures like spirits (And subsequently elves, since they're just spirits in a suit.) will eventually weaken and die. They must return to the Fade to rejuvenate - hence why ancient elves did Uthenera, why the most powerful of them could survive solely off of energy drawn in sleep, why modern elves are so much thinner, shorter, and more mortal than the ancient elves. They're being starved of their main energy source. Thus, returning to a state of plenty won't somehow kill them all to a one. It'll empower them to the point where they're as strong as their ancestors.

(Mind, that doesn't negate the possibility of something else killing them, like the collapse of modern society as we know it, or the laws of physics deciding they're going to take a lunch break.)

It gels with Morrigan's little speech at the Well about how magic is dying and wonders like the Temple will one day all be gone. Because they will be - and so will elves, spirits, mages, dragons, etc. Anything and everything magical will eventually wither (except maybe blood magic and Titans) without the Fade to sustain them. They're embodiments of magic in a world that Solas stripped magic from.

Hey so I just finished DAI for the first time ( I work about 80hrs weeks and it took me over a year to finish all 3 games :s ) and wow I'm so heartbroken! Someone told me to find the blanketfort, I hope there's still room for one more Solas ex-girlfriend
