I've been replaying ME:A and I got to the point where you make a deal with a certain someone, and there are audio logs mentioning how the Kett rose out of sorrow to exalt and reap the genetics of the galaxy. Which reminded me of a theory I had in the past. I've long thought that the original species of the Kett became infertile for some reason, and Exaltation became their method of reproduction and evolution in a childless empire. I'm not entirely sure -why- that theory feels so right to me, but it does. Anyone else thought of the same theory?

My thought process was pretty similar, but with the added pet-thesis at the bottom was, that the Kett became infertile due to their extensive genetic modification in the first place.
They must have had quite the knowledge about Genetics and retro viruses long before the exaltation process first became viable.
Of course its equally possible that they used exaltation first, and due to this practice the exalted Kett far outnumbered pure-Kett, so that natural reproduction was not viable anymore.
Sorry for any nonsensical wordings or sentences. I'm quite tired today...

I think one of codex entries mentioned this, but wiki only has it's own wording. Supposedly they become infertile due to some genetic degradation and had to resort to exaltation, as you said.

The Ketts are clearly a rip-off of Warframe's Grineers, except they "exalt" to multiply instead of clone themselves. Just compare the architecture and armor/weapon design
