Which one did epic levels better? Which classes were OP in your experience?
I liked Mask a bit better, being atheist the destruction of the wall was extremely satisfying and so was the epilogue with the death of so many deities.
Hordes: Fighter/Dwarven Defender.
Mask: Wizard(Transmuter/Necromancer)/Red Wizard/Arcane Scholar, empowered disintegrate was a one shot kill against most enemies(with the potential for a whopping 500+ damage). Druid in dragon shape if you're an expert on the many stipulations of the class and have the patience for managing it(and hiding long enough during a particular boss fight for devour to cooldown so you get the needed essences for a +8 wisdom periapt).
Epic levels were just so much fun, but did have game breaking consequences to be abused.
For pure difficulty though Storm of Zehir's low magic start was brutal on higher difficulties.

Never cared about difficulty, but:
HotU was my first love, but MotB had a better story. One of my most recommended games of all time.

I'm probably in the minority, but I liked HOTU more.
Not because of superior story, but better companions. The only Mask of the Betrayer character I really liked was Kaelyn the Dove.

The only Mask of the Betrayer character I really liked was Kaelyn the Dove. There is a special epilogue if you helped Rammaq, destroy the wall(master the hunger instead of curing it) and spare her(hard to do). It involves her and her siblings trying to kill Rammaq and being slain(not betrayed, but outright killed).

MotB was the first game I ever played where I actually enjoyed all of the companions. Safiya, Okku, Gann... even One of Many. I didn't expect to like Kaelyn because I'm a huuuge Kelemvorite and back in the day I was always rolling clerics for him, but she surprised me and I really enjoyed her character. Maybe not as much as Safiya or Gann, but still. edit: It helps that most of them were some flavor of Neutral. I like my companions on the morally ambiguous side.

The Underdark is my favorite D&D setting ever, therefore I would choose HoTU over a lot of games, not only MoTB.

The "evil" ending may not physically destroy the wall, but I took it to mean it can no longer consume anyone because you took the hunger into yourself. So you avoid ripping apart the universe or whatever by leaving the wall technically intact, but without the ability to eat the faithless. Which makes the need for future campaigns and raids to free them unnecesarry. Kaelyn should've been pleased. Yet the game forces this dark ending of a power crazed PC on you when in actuality I viewed it as the act of a true neutral character(which is the alignment I chose).

Sentimentality will make me choose HotU every time, though the gap between the two is razor thin. The OP specifically asks which one did epic levels better, and, again, I have to give the nod to HotU. I think Hordes does a better job of meeting the challenge level of my character from the point I've hit the epic levels. I'm currently playing a monk with a couple paladin levels and I'm pretty much stomping my way through with little resistance, whereas showdowns with Maugrim, Maker's Island, Vixthra, the fight before the crazy wizard guy whose name escapes me are all still challenging even after over a decade's worth of replays. This said, I'd say any melee-first class is overpowered in Mask, especially if you have prepared yourself to deal with the fear effect of the Hag. The Spirit bar added to a spellcaster's need to rest adds a layer of complication. In Hordes, I have to say that if any class is overpowered, it'd be a melee-first class that has taken levels in RDD.

The first time I played NWN, I bought the Diamond edition. I played a Dwarven Fighter all the way through the OC and HotU. I think I went to the web to get past a couple parts that stumped me, but otherwise hadn't the slightest clue what to expect story-wise. The moment Aribeth reappeared in chapter 3 of Hordes was easily my favorite video game moment ever.

Liked both.
Though I know what they were trying to do I did not like the Spirit Bar at all.
