Bit rusty on this, been years since I played this. I grabbed DA Mod manager and DA modder, so how it goes? Seem to have two mods folders in main installation folder. Any simple way through simple one click, or you need to manually go with da updater?

or you need to manually go with da updater? i think so. on top of that, after discovering unofficial mods origin will try to "update" the game. Following the update, all unofficial mods will be deleted.

DAModder was the first 'mod manager' for DAO that I used, and that was only very briefly, as it often failed to uninstall bits of mods and left behind files that then had to be manually removed. (Which, of course, negated its usefulness.) I know lots of people who swear by it, though. In the intervening years, I relied on a combination of DAupdater for installation of DAzip files, and DAO-ModManager for uninstalling and 'managing' those archives (to the extent that one can 'manage' mods for the game). (That DAO-ModManager can also install and create .override packages is additionally a huge plus, IMO.) DAO-ModManager can install DAzips, but I like the native DAupdater's ability to queue 'batches' of mods for installation, rather than having to install things one at a time. My basic rundown and advice on adding mods to DAO -> here.

Thanks. Basically DAupdater for fastest install, DA mod manager for more installs that require player input ( like with texture/body mods, when you have several options). One thing though...Updater works only with dazip, manager also with zip files. How do you install rar files? Can you rename them?

Most .rar files aren't actual "mods" per se but actual content files that you should put in the game's override directory. The default directory for that is usually My Documents\Bioware\Dragon Age\packages\core\override

rar files are compressed files. You need to extract them before you may use them. Try right clicking on the file and see if you are offered a decompress or extraction option. If you are, then select it and take it from there per the instructions above. If you are not, then you need to download a program that will do that. Winrar, 7-zip and winzip can all do that for you. Download the one you like and you're good to go.

The default directory for that is usually My Documents\Bioware\Dragon Age\packages\core\override RAR archives can also contain DAzip mods... the type of compressed archive used by the modder to package things really isn't an indication of what kind of mod it is and how to install it.

So .rar files ( anyone actually ever paid for Winrar, remember those "your trial has expired" msg-es showing up since my first PC) go straight to override, unless Da/zip is inside, otherwise it's guaranteed safe.

Never paid for WinRar (or WinAce, because I'm THAT old), and it's not safe to assume that putting files in override is always the correct procedure .
Always read the installation instructions to determine where/how a mod should be installed... some compressed archives include both override and DAzip components. Some include multiple 'choose one and install only one' override options. Some mods have special installation requirements, like overriding a file in AddIns or installing to the module specific override in the game install folder or additional steps, like manually editing the DragonAge.ini file. There is even at least one very popular mod that uses an old skool EXE installer.

For some reason, DA Mod manager isn't installing mods. Drag file into window, click install, yes...then nothing. Same is with .override files ( which is basically just a zip file). Anyone had same problem?

From Windows 7 on, drag-and-drop doesn't work for DAO-ModManager IF you use the native Windows file manager... as I understand it, both programs need to have the same elevated 'run as Administrator' permissions, but the catch is that it's impossible to give those elevated permissions to Windows Explorer. The workaround is to use a 3rd party file manager (I use Explorer++) and run both that and DAO-Modmanager as Admin.
