Its a good stand alone story with some 'over acting' in it but a powerful look at Vega's character arc and back story...which then the last five minutes of said story wildly retcons/ rapes established canon in ME 3 about James Vega...
But yes, it is worth watching and was quite enjoyable up till then. (I've seen it twice)

The other thing is that when ME3 came out, James would say, 'it reminds me of the time I destroyed that collector ship', if taken on the dreadnought mission. What? At the time I thought there was only the one that was in ME2. Unfortunately Shepard doesn't have the opportunity to ask him about that. 6-7 months later, the cartoon Paragon Lost is released to answer that question. One of the reason's why I don't like having other media sources to explain stuff in the game.

I didn't like the movie.
Maybe I am the wrong person to talk to because I can't stand anime style in the first place but even apart from that, it was a weird movie.
The characters - apart from Vega himself - didn't really click with me at all. The story seems somewhat forced into the universe and only barely meshes with the games with some bigger inconsistencies sprinkled in for good measure.
Then there are some really weird Deception style mistakes in it. E.g. during a flashback to Sovereign at the Citadel we see an Earth like planet in the background, not the Serpent Nebula. Stuff like that.
Over all, if you are a die hard ME fan, you should probably watch it, just to have seen it but don't expect too much there.
