Don't know if this has been posted at all but Anthem in currently selling on Amazon and Currys for £4.97...… As a huge DA and ME fan ive steered well clear of this title, but at that price.... is it worth it or really that bad? You might find PillarBiter's thoughts helpful.
He won't give you some glossy line about the wonders of Bastion (the fictional location of Anthem's game play).
Nor will he pretend Anthem has no redeeming entertainment value.
Anthem's not an RPG … while it has a decent story, it's very short and hasn't progressed significantly from launch.
The story is best played solo where possible, it's pretty clunky to try and play it with others (I've done both).
I treat it like ME3 or MEA MP… so for me it's OK … as opposed to a looter-shooter … where it falls quite short.
Gameplay is quite good … when it works … each game update/expansion brings its own share of bugs.
BioWare really, really needs to work on QA prior to release of its updates.
Game accounting stinks … I think that is a Frostbite issue … see it in MEA, but it's worse in Anthem.

Don't know if this has been posted at all but Anthem in currently selling on Amazon and Currys for £4.97...… As a huge DA and ME fan ive steered well clear of this title, but at that price.... is it worth it or really that bad? Well, I've been with anthem from the start, and for that price, yes, yes it's definitely worth it. It had it's problems at the start. And deserved the critique. It's a lot smoother ride now: a lot of bugs have been fixed and such. The one main core issue that remains (lack of endgame content and meaningful loot progression system) doesn't really become apparent until you actually are at endgame, by which time you've already played upwards of 50 hours. So that in and of itself is worth 5 bucks, imho. The gameplay is tons of fun, either solo or with friends or with randoms. Think of it as Mass effect andromeda plus plus. But, better. The story is short but sweet. Not a terribly convoluted plot or anything, nor is it really inspiring. The characters are well done, and stay true to the bioware style. Well worth the low low price, even if it'll last you only 10-20 hours (depending on how slow you play). The endgame is... well, not there yet. But it depends on why you game. If you play just for the hell of it, you'll get a lot of fun out of it. If you play for perfection and perfect builds... prepare for frustration. I suggest you try it. It's ONLY 5 $. If you don't like it after the introduction missions, you can always stop playing.

Pretty much everything PillarBiter said. I played the open demo and enjoyed it for the most part. But I knew it wasn't worth a $60 purchase (I'm more into old-time BW storytelling). At $5 during BF, I figured "why not?". I'm only at the (cursed) Trials of the Legionnaires part, but almost through the grinding. 90% solo play.
Yes, very pretty game. The gameplay mechanics are actually quite good. Nice feel and sound to the Javelin, guns and powers. Flying is awesome. Your character is very vanilla, but some of the NPC's are fairly entertaining. Alas, I don't expect much of the story and do not plan to hang around after completing it.
But I've already gotten my 5 bucks worth.

Today is a sad day. Anthem failed to get nominated in any category, let alone win any.
For the list of nominees and winners go here. Can you imagine your post if they HAD get awarded? I somehow doubt the validity of your sadness.
Shocked!!... is what I would be.

Good comprehensive video. The whole industry is in shambles. A few good single player games here and there cannot cover the tragedy that is going on in the video games industry.

Good comprehensive video. The whole industry is in shambles. A few good single player games here and there cannot cover the tragedy that is going on in the video games industry. He's hits on alot of issues on the decline....i personally thought this entire thing started with DLC. Before that dev's used to try to give you the most bang for your buck.....the original RE2 went above and beyond to give you a gaming experience like no other at the time when you started playing as two different characters and the game felt entirely different depending on who you played first and it also affected the outcome of your 2nd playhthrough. As much as i like the RE-Remake, playing both characters felt EXACTLY the same....scenarios and gameplay didn't really change no matter who you started with....it's still a great game, but it falls short in what the original did brilliantly. Lastly like the vid states, folks are following trends and not taking chances anymore. There's reason why i play my ps3 more than my ps4 at the moment and that is because that era put out decent AA games.....games like "Remember Me", "Spec-Ops..the Line" and "Vanquish"...those mid-tier games that was a bit rough around the edges, but still a fun experience. It's a problem when one of the big games being promoted for the Ps5 is "Godhand" which is basically another run of the mill MP game....yes Sony will probably announce some SP joints, but i just say that to further emphasize the industrie's focus on trend following....at the same time tho, some of those trends are making businesses millions of dollars in exchange for low expense and maintenance costs....as much as we can complain, consumers are ultimately making the case for these companies since they are the ones purchasing the product in record numbers.

Good comprehensive video. The whole industry is in shambles. A few good single player games here and there cannot cover the tragedy that is going on in the video games industry. I gave up on it after he cited KOTOR2 as a positive example of a game which was able to complete its development before release (in his section on "games as a service").
Really?
I loved KOTOR. So KOTOR2 was one of the few games I bought on Day 1 at full MSRP. And it was a buggy mess from the start. But I pushed through that and by halfway through, thought it was a full 10. ... Then the last third of the game, ughhh. Took my overall score to a 6.7 (2/3*10 + 1/3*0).
I'm still trying to work my way through with TSLRCM, but honestly can't make it. ... Maybe if they did a remaster

There's a lot of problems with this video, so many I can't take it seriously. I'll name 1. He brings up how there were no remasters in the SNES days. That's because old games are unplayable on HD TVs, and so remasters these days are necessary while being not so necessary in the old days. Seriously has anyone tried to play PS2 games on a modern TV? It's like buying a ticket to migraine-city. That's not to say that it hasn't been taken too far, but comparing it to the old days when remasters were unnecessary is intellectually dishonest.

Well, we are almost at New Year 2020...
And the answer to all those springtime predictions of "Anthem will be such a new and awesome game by the end of the year" is...
...did you really need to click the spoiler for an answer?
I guess we will have to wait for 2021 now... Imagine the threads - "DA4 delayed as Bioware still hopes to release a reworked Anthem".

This made me laugh
Anthem is a 2019 game? It feels like that game has been dead for years already..
Anthem was so far ahead of its time that it managed to die years before it was actually released. - some random dude on Ytube

Metacritic just released the top 50 best reviewed games of the decade.
From Bio we have:
Mass Effect 2 followed by Mass Effect 3.
I'm disappointed that no DA series is in the list.

(Incidentally: How much did DAI: trespasser score? Cuz that one was pretty good.) It scored 77, which is slightly lower than the 84 DAI had. I'd reverse those scores myself. But the User rating is also 7.7, which is much better than the 5.9 for DAI.
