I'm curious about this because I was under the impression during DAI that you have to go through the crossroads to enter another eluvian. But I was playing again and it seems that when you flee Corypheus or enter the fade from Morrigan's eluvian that you're going directly to the place you want, skipping the crossroads entirely. So why is it one way one time and another way another time, and which way does it happen more often?

Chances are that there are some Eluvians that don't use the Crossroads but connect directly to each other. Or they simply skip our time in the Crossroads like they skip the journey from Skyhold to any of the other areas.

For the fade, Morrigan said that it would take a lot of power to 'connect' as it were to there. For the others (we only use one other outside of trespasser)it's still the crossroads.

Honestly, I'm of the mind that it's something that was over looked for that cut scene. Not because it wasn't shown, but because of the way the party 'falls out' of the eluvian. But Inquisitor and party would still have had to traipse the crossroads to get there. Inconsistencies abound in these games.

Yeah, at first I thought the game was skipping the time in the crossroads as you suggest, but the way the scenes are paced it makes it look as though they're just going directly from one to another. For instance, when they flee Corypheus it plays out as though they are running into the Arbor Wilds eluvian and straight out of the Skyhold eluvian. Or at least that's what it looks like.

It's possible they went through the crossroads (and the game cut it out), but the way they make it LOOK, they didn't. For instance, why would they be running still if they knew corypheus wasn't behind them?

When going through the eluvian at the Temple of Mythal, times elapses that we don't see. The advisors (but not the army) have enough time to get back to Skyhold so obviously that trip could not have been instantaneous. This implies traveling via the Crossroads to find the backside of Morrigan's mirror. The link to the Fade that Kieran creates appears to be direct, which is why the Inquisitor is surprised to find themselves there in the first place. If only Cory (or Solas) knew how to do that.....we'd all be screwed.
We see in Trespasser that mirrors can also link to ones further up a hillside or in another part of a fortress or city. Besides being OP, ancient elves were apparently also lazy and preferred to fast-travel instead of walk anywhere.

I forgot about those ones.

Good point about Trespasser. It certainly seems as though you're not going through the crossroads during the mountain scenes. And even if you were - and the game was just cutting it out - how would you know which eluvians to go through in order to get from point a to point b?

And even if you were - and the game was just cutting it out - how would you know which eluvians to go through in order to get from point a to point b? It's just a theory at this point, but aside from the symbols atop of some of the eluvians (most notably in the Vir' Dirthara), the ones that connect to the crossraods in Trespasser, seem to 'reflect' the area that they lead to. Have you noticed how dwarven architecture was around the eluvian that lead to the deep roads? Or how Orlesian statues and marbled floors were near the eluvian leading to the winter palace? Or how shelves of books were by the eluvian that leads to the Vir' Dirthara? Unless Solas or his agents decided to spend time meticulously practicing cultural architecture, it seems the Crossroads in Tresspasser is willing to shape itself based on where an eluvian may lead. Otherwise i'll just assume they use listings of some sort, much in the same way we keep track of airplanes and their comings and goings.

I wonder if you moved an eluvian if the crossroads would re-update itself at the other side.
