My Shepard is a Soldier, he's mostly Paragon, and soon he'll be imported to ME2. Like the other classes the Soldier's Combat Mastery can affect P/R bonuses. I have to choose either Commando, or Shock Trooper. I would like to pick Commando, but what will that do to my preferable playstyle in ME2? I'm Paragon, with some Renegade in there (I usually pick some Renegade interrupts like headbutting Uvenk in Grunt's Loyalty Mission, or breaking that Eclipse Merc's neck in Miranda's Loyalty Mission). You know, the smaller ones. But for the most part I'm Paragon. The one thing that worries me is keeping everyone loyal. I don't want to lose someone's loyalty, and have to get it back later. For example, I always complete Jack's loyalty mission long after I'm done with Miranda's. I make sure I increase my Paragon Points in between. I really want to choose Commando, but I'm worried about just having the 75% P/R bonus versus the 100% bonus. Is there really a difference? I don't want to mess around with the order of how complete certain missions.

For more information about the persuasion options in ME2, see this thread. Depending on how you play your Soldier: - If you want to take more Renegade options but are worrying about losing Charm options, take Shock Trooper. You will likely not miss the extra combat damage in Commando - If you want the extra combat bonuses provided by Commando, then take Commando. You will be unlikely to miss the extra persuasion bonuses from Shock Trooper. Commando is good if you plan on using the extra storm speed bonuses, but the extra weapon and power damage is essentially negligible unless you need the power damage for your bonus power. (The extra power damage does not noticeably increase ammo power damage, so it is best used for specific bonus powers like Reave or Energy Drain.) If you only shoot when using Adrenaline Rush, then you will be very unlikely to notice the extra weapon damage bonuses from your passive at all (+15% weapon damage in Commando, versus +9% from Shock Trooper; a 6% difference), since you will be getting +100% to +140% from Adrenaline Rush. If you shoot outside of Adrenaline Rush, you will still likely not notice the difference as you keep up on upgrades. Just my wo cents

I just want to know if I can resolve an argument with the Commando Combat Mastery. Answer: Yes Longer answer: Even if you do not resolve the conflict between Miranda/Jack or Legion/Tali on the first attempt, you can speak to the unloyal squad member after the conflict and you will get a second chance with persuasion options that require fewer points. For example, resolving the Miranda/Jack conflict requires 100% Charm (but only like 70% Intimidate). If you do not have enough Charm the first attempt, you can side with Jack, then speak to Miranda after and only need about 70% Charm to get her loyalty again. Also of note: Tali and Legion will not argue if you give the evidence to the Admiralty board during her trial.

Yes they do, for me at least. This is because I choose to complete the other loyalty missions, Overlord, and the remaining N7 missions before the acquiring the Reaper IFF. I do Legion's mission between IFF & the Suicide Mission. That's just my personal order.

If you want to solve the argument with no problem, complete Jack's loyalty mission right after completing Miranda's loyalty mission. I've done it many times with both the blue and red dialogue options available.

I've done it many times with both the blue and red dialogue options available. I remember trying that once. I lost Jack's loyalty as a result. However, I think it happened during a time before I played ME1 and imported a save to ME2. ME2 was the first Mass Effect game I ever played almost 8 years ago, and I didn't play ME1 until later that year. The rest is history. Since then I never tried to complete both missions back to back.

I believe the size of the paragon/renegade bars don't really impact the arguments. I'm pretty sure those dialogue options require you to have a certain percentage of the paragon/renegade points available at the moment of the argument, not a set amount. Therefore, it's easier to do them earlier as you have less points you could have missed. Keep in mind that I could be completely wrong.

That's how the system works in ME2 in general. Every paragon/renegade check in the game is checking the percentage of total paragon/renegade points available that you actually got. That is why entering new areas is actually reducing your paragon/renegade score. Imagine it like this: You travel to Illium for the first time. So far, your Shepard used all available paragon persuasion options and interrupts as well as did all all actions that will give you paragon points in the game. So beforeyou go to Illium, you paragon score is 100% (even if the paragon bar is only at, say, one third because you haven't played that much of the game yet). However, as soon as you set foot on Illium, you have several actions available to you that can give you more paragon points (for example the whole story with Conrad Verner). So as soon as Illium is loaded for the first time, your paragon score will drop from 100% to maybe 90% (just making up numbers here) until you did these actions. So if you are really worried about a particular check, try to do it fairly early in the game but not when you have just entered a new area like Omega, the Citadel or Illium. The thing is, the bars in the character screen don't tell you shit because they show the overall number of points you have which is not what is scored for the checks. The system is really weird and intransparent IMO and the worst in the sereis (both 1 and 3 did it better IMO). In general though, if you mostly keep to one side, paragon or renegade, you should have very little trouble because therre are barely any checks that require more than 70% (as RedCesar mentioned). Especially if you use an ME1 import, you'll probably be fine as you have extra points, so in the beginning of the game, you'll be above 100% score. However, I have to admit, when I play, I tend to want to play a paragade/renegon Shepard, which means that a lot of persuation options wouldn't be available, so I actually cheat and give myself lot's of P/R points with the save editor because I find the whole thing much to restrictive for an RPG and too intransparent to properly predict.

Here's a post from cap and gown explaining paragon and renegade Your paragon and renegade meters are basically irrelevant in telling you whether you can pass persuade checks or not. Here is what I wrote in another thread about the persuade system in ME2: For ME2 the persuade system is rather opaque. You have paragon and renegade meters, but they actually are misleading and you should not pay attention to them. To pass persuade checks in ME2 each check requires that you are either x% paragon or y% renegade. Sometimes the percentage required is very high, sometimes it is not so high. It will also depend on whether it is an intimidate or charm option. For some persuade checks the charm option (blue) requires a low percentage while the intimidate (red) option requires a high percentage. For others, the charm option may require a high percentage, while the intimidate option may require a low percentage. How are these percentages calculated? Every time you enter some new area/run some mission, there will be a total number of paragon points that can be earned (p), and a total number of renegade points that can be earned ( r). Let's say you land on Omega, the first hub world you will probably go to. Let's say there are a total of 200 paragon points that could be earned here and 150 renegade points that could be earned here based on the dialogue choices you make. Now let's say you earn 100 paragon points and 50 renegade points. (And you missed out on a number of points because you didn't talk to certain people or picked a neutral option.) Your paragon percentage is now 50%, and your renegade percentage is 33%. Now let's say you are presented with a dialogue where you can persuade someone. The charm option requires that you be 40% paragon and intimidate option requires that you be 35% renegade. You will be able to use the charm option (blue) because your paragon percentage is 50% which is greater than the 40% required, but you will not be able to use the intimidate option (red) because your renegade percentage is 33% which is less than the 35% required. As you travel to more and more places and run more and more missions, the total number of paragon and renegade points you could potentially earn keeps growing and growing, but the likelihood of you earning all the points available is rather low, meaning as the game progresses it becomes increasingly harder to pass persuade checks. For this reason, it is recommended that you 1) try to get to difficult persuade checks early in a game, and 2) import as many paragon and renegade points from ME1 as possible. You can import up to 190 paragon points and 190 renegade points from ME1. Using the above example, a character that imported 190 renegade and 190 paragon points would start out - before even talking to anyone - at 95% paragon and 126% renegade, meaning they could pass any persuade check imaginable. For an experienced player who understands how the system works it is entirely possible to play a character that is 50% paragon and 50% renegade and pass all the persuade checks in ME2. Here's the thread I got the post from

Yes, I read themikefest's post about it in my early days and it helped me immensely. I generally play full trilogy runs, meaning I import from ME1 and get lots of [usually] Paragon points to start with. I'm glad ME3 wasn't as harsh with the percentage requirements and that the bars did, again, mean something.

Really? I mean, I think to get the most out of Mass Effect it's worthwhile to try a variety of classes and backgrounds. I mean, it's your choice, but sometimes messing up can be just as worthwhile as getting it right.
