I don't understand why I cannot get through this game, I have finished every Bioware game but for whatever reason this one feels like a drag. Not sure if it is the characters, the combat, or something else but I just have a hard time getting into this title. Bought the game when it came out on console and played for a few days only to drop it. I ended up buying the game again on PC only to drop it after a second attempt. Anyways I was curious if anyone else had this problem with Inquisition, I feel like I am missing out on a good title.

It took me a while to get into it, too. Mostly because of the fetch quests and the goddamned Batman Hinterlands. My advice is: ignore meaningless fetch quests that distract from the main story, talk to your companions a LOT and switch up your party so you consistently get banter, and focus on the main quests since that's where the bulk of the interesting story is. If you're like me, "wandering around and occasionally killing stuff" is not that fun. So this is my solution.

Reach level 4-7. Leave the hinterlands. Go to Val Royeux. Watch the game unfurl properly before you. Only close rifts that are in your way. If's it's not listed as Main or Companion, don't do it.
I nearly dropped it too, my first day playing. Now I've totally gotten the story, and don't mind dilly dallying minor quests I personally like. but my first time through, I skipped a lot of optional stuff.

I'll add an exception to the above rules; go ahead and do any quest if you think you've got solid RP reasons for doing it.

I'm always ready to get back to the story. If I want pretty scenery I can open a window.

If OP played Origins and DA2, loved them, and then moved to DAI, I can understand how they got lost because I was in their shoes one upon a Hissing Wastes Moon.

Hell, for some reason I couldn't get into Mass Effect Andromeda, then again, I think I more understand why in that case.

Glad to hear I am not the only one who has experienced this. As for the whole ignore meaningless fetch quests, I dunno what it is but I feel like I am missing content by not doing them (Being a completionist is a curse).

A lot of them, the only missed content is a message essentially saying you've done them. I mean, I once did a completionist play through where I found a dead body that asked me to give their last words (a letter) to their family. And I hand delivered this letter to a MAIL BOX. Is that "content" ?

Anyways I was curious if anyone else had this problem with Inquisition, I feel like I am missing out on a good title. It has a lot to do with the vast open world that is filled with completely boring quests. It's vastly different to BW game that came before it. The only one which compares is Andromeda. I've said it once, and I'll say it again... BW sucks at building interesting open worlds, but they are slowly getting better. Inquisition was their debut, Andromeda was slightly better, and Anthem looks to be pretty spot on... Hopefully, they're getting a lot of experienced hands teaching them the right way to do it. Another minor issue, is the characters in Inquisition are harder to care about because the interactions with companions can be sooooo spread out, if you try to complete every zone before continuing the main story. You tend to forget why you care about Cullen's lyrium addiction, etc. Some companions had their story arcs cut drastically short because they ran out of time (Vivienne). This leaves you feeling disconnected from them.

As for the whole ignore meaningless fetch quests, I dunno what it is but I feel like I am missing content by not doing them (Being a completionist is a curse). I get like that too. The only thing that saved me was going, "is it in-character to spend two hours hunting for this or that bullshit that's not going to help the Inquisition in any way, shape, or form?" Once I focused on the quests my character would do, the game became a thousand times more fun. You are definitely not missing anything special by ignoring stuff that bores you (unless, of course, that's your favorite thing about action-adventure RPGs! ).

I feel like I'm weird, because I can't do a PT without being a completionist and enjoy exploring and just walking around alot. :dumb: (my PTs are normally between 225 to 250 hours long, including Trespasser) I once told Solas to shut up because he kept telling me "We should go to Val Royeaux" while I was doing side quests in the Hinterlands. Old killjoy.

For me, all of the "meaningless fetch quests" were just an excuse to play more of the game, run around the pretty environments, look at my favorite characters, and just hang around in the world.

Do a speedrun. That might help. Look on youtube to see folks who have completed a speedrun to know the best path to get through the game quickly. Knowing you missed a lot of content, after completing a speedrun, might be enough for you to play the game at your own pace.

I'm amused, Gilli , that your Hinterlands map says "Die Hinterlands" which is apt considering the thread all about leaving the hinterlands.

Meh, I enjoyed it enough to play it and beat it eight times before 100% full stop playing it. I'm glad I never got to play ME:A though. I like my memories of ME being a good series, thank you very much.

The thing is that Inquisition shows how Bioware is absolute trash when it comes to open world games. Exploring in Inquisition and doing side quests bored me to tears. But stick to the main questline and companion quests, and you have yourself an excelent game. I would even go an extra mile and say DA2 did exploration and side quests better then Inquisition. Mostly because the maps were small and it didn't took too long to finish them.
Now when I play Inquisition I don't even bother with exploration, I just go finish a quest, get some xp and move ownards. I don't stop to get resources, I barely loot anything, and in turn, the game moves foward a lot more quickly.

I'm amused, Gilli , that your Hinterlands map says "Die Hinterlands" which is apt considering the thread all about leaving the hinterlands. I noticed the irony too. By the way, you also notice how there are, beside the Requisition Officer, no quests left on the map? Because I did them all. ETA: I have to add tho, that I don't do all Hinterland quests at once. Nowadays I just do the quests that vanish if you don't do them before IYHSB (get my horse, Watchtowers, Templars in the West, Mages in the Woods, etc), recruit all the Agents in the Hinterlands, then I go to Val Royeaux and then I decide to which faction I go go to the mages. And later, after I got to Skyhold and got my specialization, I go back and do the rest.

The Hinterlands doesn't get closed off. Once you've got the main quest rolling you can go back whenever you like to do various side quests involving Solas, Dorian, Cassandra etc and while you're there pick up a few more fetch quests. Or not. Up to you.
