So, following recent discussion on OP kits on *****YOUR LAST PUG IN ONE WORD*****, it kinda struck me, how many possible (viable?) kit combinations the game offers.
Consider this to be very simplistic methodology: There are 59 unique characters (65 in total); each can be specced at the very least into two distinct builds power-wise. There are 51 more or less glorious guns (excluding Chakram launcher). Let’s consider melee a separate build that uses only guns with omniblade/stunner (43). That means you can choose from (59 x 2 x 51) + (59 x 43) = 8555 kits*. Very very theoretically, but still. Man.
Makes me wanna try Javelin Fury.
*Feel free to correct the math or the thought process.

I may be wrong, but I feel like it's way more. 118 kits (n) with 51 permutions (k). Permutation formula is P = n!/(n-k)! so 118!/67! = 3.65*10^94 combinations. That seems really high. Someone correct me, I'm sure I'm wrong. Combination formula still gives ~1.5*10^66 combinations. Seems a little high still.

I'm too lazy to check your math but it seems legit Just a couple of stray thoughts: We have 19 different maps, 4 difficulties and 4 factions. 19 x 4 x 4 = 304 combos Assuming a match takes an average of 20 mins, you would have to play 8555 x 304 / 3 = 866900 hours for the complete experience, so is there anyone around here who truly can call themselves veterans? To your point: I personally don't mind PUGs using OP kits - whatever you are comfortable with and enjoy is fine by me but ME3MP does indeed offer a lot of variety. It saddens me a little though if I'm in a themed lobby; 3 players with the same kit and the 4th doesn't recognize the pattern. On the rare occasion I find myself in a lobby with 3 identical kits, I switch to that one too. Even if it is in more general terms - I'm not going with a tech kit in a lobby with 3 Adepts. This is what gets me butthurt - not whether or not a kit is OP but if someone insists on using a different kit and not recognizing it is more fun for all of us by going along with the theme. But then again that's what BSN lobbies are for Different standards though. What I enjoy the most is exactly this vast variety of combinations. The result is usually a lot of trial and error, goofing around a dying. It's no problem as long as I got some Reegar PUG around who wants that epeen high score. They can either kick me or carry me Good to know there are some of those 8555 combos I haven't tried yet. I'll see if I can get around to it before the servers shut down

Because headbutt, backhand and shotgun is what keeps the math simple; You either smack that Phantom or you get gutted by that Phantom Seriously, I believe you only need to use the Permutation formula if the order of the characters and weapons matter. To stick with my Krogan example: You have 5 Krogan in the game = 5 choices. This is the combination math used by mylkoo However, if the order mattered, like you want to list them from most to least favorite, you get a much higher number like in your calculation which is 5!. First you choose your favorite among 5 options, then your second most favorite among the remaining 4 and so on; 5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1 = 120 ways to list the 5 Krogan; Permutations vs. combinations.

Yeah I was thinking of each combination possible; instead of two distinct build I'm thinking of max combinations for each character. My numbers may even be low! There are 59 unique characters, 6 different specs for each power tree, 5 different trees, 51 weapons, etc. This isn't even counting weapon mods either!

Yep, permutations deal with set order of items, hence use of combinations. I didn't count weapon mod combinations, as they are imho not distinct enough to account for unique kit, but that's obviously open for discussion (well gear mods are pretty distinct). Also, the number of singular possible character builds well be much higher, I was just thinking more in terms of build focus - usually it is power build vs weapon platform, more or less. But yeah, to account for every possible character/weapon/mod/map/faction combination - now that would be some really interesting number

I don't know what's more shocking; that no one has made that joke in months (or more) or that that's the first time I've made that joke.

I have never played a game this often for this long, not even close, and it is borderline unhealthy. Time to load a game lads!

Ok.... It is time for Revvay. SaikyoMcRyu, where r u? I just rolled a few classics. BatSent with Falcon and Hurricane, full Blade Armor SubNet Melee killer, Disruptor Ammo for dem Tech Bursts. Decided to go ham, Destroyer skip HML build, Grenade Gear, Brophoon and Pirahna with AP ammo. Lulz, hardly used the Pirahna. Fucking Rio though... Then, Krogan Headshot Vanguard, Wraith. Did get 20 heads, wave 5. Didn't get 50 melee kills, probably 40ish :rage: Now, it's Revvay time. My flu is passing a little, but I am still sore as hell. Yet, I am enjoying playing a bit, and I like my new Arctis 7 wireless headset. A little heavy, but comfortable and no wire is nice and I still feel like I am getting the drop on the enemy fine (no detectable wireless lag).
