The hardest part I would say is to resist my normal urge to play my Kineticist as I normally would at cap. The first 2 attempts I failed from deaths as I made my normal reactions, and that was simply not suitable to do on a Kineticist I where your Shields take 7 seconds (or 3.5s in cover) to "begin" to recover (at cap and Multicapacitor, shields recharge within 3s mostly and start recharging in ~1.5s). So I was downed too easily. Since a new player is supposed to have 2 of each consumable only, I tried to play within those parameters. So I stopped those attempts as I was at wave 2 or 3 and already needed to take a revive. The third attempt, I got the Boss run, and you are correct in identifying that it's a problem. There's no way on a Kineticist with that basic setup that you'd be able to take down the Bahemoth. So I was forced to hoping for any of the other objectives, and just lucked out at getting Recovery and Recovery for the successful attempt. Otherwise, the in game biggest difficulty is when you have the Fiend, Ascendant (or both) coming at you and you're trying to clear out the rest of the trash first before dealing with them. You'll see in the video where when that happens, it just drags as I have to keep repositioning and that increases the chances for mistakes to happen to cause failure. Not in any hurry to try that again.

Not in any hurry to try that again. Watching your vid brings back memories of my Human Soldier Common Only Weapons or Powers Only Krogan Engineer Platinum Solos. Those really dragged on once only the Ascendants were left at the end of the waves. Some comments: Nice of the Fiend to get stuck (partially) at the end of Wave 4. Too bad Fire Barrels can't one-hit Behemoths and Fiends anymore. How come you didn't use any Pull+Throw biotic combos when enemies were grouped together? I understand why you were using Pull to take out the trash along the edges of the maps. Did you not want to make use of the 40% combo and power damage that came with your Kineticist XX? I think the biggest takeaway that new players can learn from this video is knowing when to fight and when to retreat. Having good situational awareness is something that comes with practice in MEAMP and doesn't come easily to newbies. I would hate for them to think after watching our videos, "Hey, if someone did a Platinum solo using a Human Soldier and common weapons or a Krogan Engineer with just her powers, or a Gold solo with a Kineticist at Level 1, Rank 1, I can succeed in Platinum and Gold too!"

I hear you. Having just gone through that myself, I totally get you. Yeah, the Fire Barrel change wasn't great. I used to on the Ice Map drag away all the Barrels to a safer spread out location and Pull/Throw them at Armoured targets when needed. Would have made it much easier. Key thing was see how a virtual Level 1 Rank 1 would experience it. So I felt detonating would cheat that a tiny bit unless there was good reason to do so (like, minimal health left on target). But from observation, a Gold detonation on that Kineticst XX would only deal ~50% damage to the targets anyway (with the 40% boost from XX rank). This compared to a full kill from removal from the map. So whilst a detonation would affect everyone. I would need to reposition again as the abilities would be on timer, and everyone not killed would still be gunning me down. If I was in Ascension, the Shields needed to detonate twice would have reduced the Shields down to a very small amount (not ideal, since I could get kicked out of Ascension at that point from just 1 stray hit instead of a few). And it would have required me to also aim a tiny moment (or I risk the detonator hitting something else when there's so many in a group), all of which puts yourself in danger of Ascension loss and being taken down. Compared to simply just using Pull and letting momentum carry the enemies off the map, as well as using ~10% Shields per kill that way only, and it becomes clear that if you want to preserve Ascension as long as possible for continued use, you'll need to kill on the cheap and as safely as possible too. Hence why I was just using Pull (and the occasional Push when on the other side of the map). Very much agreed. There's also a big difference between Gold and Platinum difficulty where you need to constantly check around you every 2-3s compared with being able to effectively set up camp at a spot and work from there. But I hope people seeing this can see that Gold is already going to be rough, don't jump into Platinum too soon before you get your feet steady.

Lesson For many reasons. But primarily for new players to see that when you start rocking some updated gear, even if it's just Uncommon (Silver) weaponry, performance can become markedly improved. Don't jump in to a Platinum run with the basic weapons; you won't make a dent to the enemy and you'll die quickly too (without Siphon helping recovery). 52 minutes. Solo, Gold, Sandstorm, Kett, Recovery (Retrieval), Disarm 2 Revives (1 was definitely a what the heck Ascendant? moment, so I don't really count that one, but it's a lesson for me to never underestimate those Ascendant teleport distances ever again ), 1 First Aid, 1 Cobra RPG Kineticist XX virtually at Level 1 (1 point in Ascension and 1 in Barrier) Multicapacitor No Boosters (Can assume Biotic was taken for use in this run) Raptor (Siphon X) with Penetration Mod and Damage Boost X5 Ghost (Siphon X) with Peneration Mod and Damage Boost Very affordable to be more reckless with health and shields (and hence, Ascension too). Something that can't be done with non Siphon weaponry, as you're stuck behind cover and playing it safe much more often. I apologise about the audio during various parts of the video, unsure what happened there. (Guessing it's due to memory issues, or the SSD it was recording onto. Will try to make sure it won't happen again) This was the second attempt, first attempt landed me a Recovery (Retrieval) and Boss objective. Failed on the Bahemoth again. Gear definitely helps tremendously, especially so if Siphon variant weaponry are involved too.

Havoc.
Since this thread isn't really one word, I guess it is time for the extra 100. I had a long time off from MEA, but being back has really just meant doing daily challenge for a few extra apex points. Today had combat mastery, so Flak Cannon for points. Actually I accidentally started with the Commando so that match was worthless except for Paradox waves.
I just half ass these on Bronze for the most part, but since I wasted 7 waves without a combat power that generates points, I did a Silver.
Earlier I had to finish yesterday's Zero and Gold waves, and used my Level 13 Commando for that. Typically I don't bother with boosters/consumables being a cheapskate and don't care if I complete the objectives. But for whatever reason I tried to actually finish the gold solo with her. I had to blow a shield pack on the Wave 3 devices, and then wasted like 3 Cobras on Wave 6 Boss. The Behemoths are massively irritating.
At least my Hornet Siphon is Level III now, I guess that is something.

Lesson ... Solo, Gold, Sandstorm, Kett, Recovery (Retrieval), Disarm ... Been meaning to ask, it looks like you are playing with an Xbox controller but on PC? You have a frame rate counter in the upper left, and your graphics look much more detailed than what I see on my XBox One S. For instance, when in Ascension Mode, I don’t see the any shimmering surrounding me. Or when the Ascendant launches his orb, I don’t see fire streaks on the ground.

Oh yes, good eye. I am on the PC, and you are correct that I am using the XBox 360 controller. It's because I started Mass Effect since the first one back in 06/07 on the original XBox 360. So it actually feels weird for me to use the keyboard and mouse compared to using the controller (I'd probably die on Bronze in my full gear and level up if I tried on the keyboard and mouse ) The frame rate counter at the top is from the overlay from Origin. Here's the video decribed in the last post. But unfortunately there's audio issues from recording, fixed for future recordings, but it's noticable here. Unfixable I believe, but at least will prevent future ones from experiencing the same.

Not to be.
Got a Wave 4 Hack (Sandstorm Kett). Try as he might, but the Salarian Operator can’t stop the Fiend, two Ascendants, and a host of Anointed, Saboteurs, and Destined from entering the circle all by himself.
Also got a Wave 6 Upload (I finished one circle) and a Wave 2 Upload (finished two circles).

Finally.
Got Retrieval, Devices, and Devices for a not too difficult 37 minute Platinum run on Sandstorm with the Operator. Shaved 20 or so odd minutes from my first run with the Salarian.

Safety. Was looking to see how long I'd last on a virtual Kineticist I lvl 1 in Platinum, but then remembered that there's a Safety Spot I could in theory use. Anyway, didn't last long even with the safety spot (simply wasn't doing enough damage output, especially against regenerating Krogan, not with Common Weapons anyway), but levelled up and captured the safety spot in action. Unsure if it's already been covered before as I've not really been keeping up to date with all of them. I know of the one on top of the barrel under the walkway at the back of the buildings that vanelsa demonstrated. Been sitting on this one for a while, but felt may as well give it up now if it's not known already (since the only way to remove it would be an actual content patch from Bioware now, which would be nice).

I have seen and used this place too. It works best against the Remnant on Platinum provided you can get the Destroyers and Progenitors to glitch. There is a similar place in the basement of Derelict. Because there is no easy way out, it’s very easy to get swarmed, esp. as a character which does not have large amount of the DR.

Upload.
Another Wave 6 Upload to ruin an otherwise decent run with a Shield-Powered Asari Duelist. Without Incendiary Ammo, the Boss objective is quite challenging for her. I prefer to equip Disruptor ammo for non-stop crowd control with Shield-Powered Lance. Throwing in a few melees here and there. I should be used to the frustration of poor objectives, but it’s never fun to get to Wave 6 only to see Upload or Hack turn up.

Denied. Platinum solo, Vertigo, Kett, Kineticist, Recovery/Retrieval (great, not even loss of Ascension), Disarm (OK, got taken down once), Boss (so close). Had the Bahemoth down to 15-20%, but careless play early on spent up some consumables, so was unable to take down the Bahemoth before time and Revive/First Aid kits ran out. Still, was able to demo "biotic obstacle" at least, will put a few of those up to demo in videos as I get more done. (1 or more enemies lifted by pull close to spot where you are disarming or retrieving, they block direct line of sight of you whilst floating which causes many enemies to stop firing or move around constantly as the lifted enemy moves around to get a better line of sight on you before firing. And any weapons fire also impacts on the floating enemy ala the BLS, so you're protected also.) Yeah, did I mention there's a lot of weirdness with the Kineticist you can do you can't with others? Will attempt again at some point.

Will attempt again at some point. I never thought to use a redbar as a biotic obstacle during Devices. Good strategy there! I think the Platinum Boss objective is a good test of one’s overall skills in MEAMP. Retrieval and Devices is more of a matter of kiting enemies away (from the device) or how to navigate the map so you don’t go down (Retrieval). Hacks and Uploads are all but impossible for most characters; there’s no shame in failing with those two, as the game is stacked against you. With Boss, you have to become both the hunter and the prey. You can’t waste too much time kiting since you’ll run out of time, but on the other hand, you can’t go full on Rambo since enemies will converge on your position and riddle you to the ground. And, depending on when you get the Boss objective, you have to weigh whether or not to expend your Cobras and other consumables. You might need them in the later Waves! You’ll get there eventually, and I’m looking forward to your successful solo vid!

Revenge!
Platinum solo, Vertigo, Kett, Kineticist, Retrieval/Recovery (No issues), Disarm (No troubles this time), Boss (REVENGE IS MINE!!!). Totally ineligant taking down the Bahemoth and went right down to the wire (1s to go - got confused a tiny bit when I noticed I was targetting wrong Bahemoth), but didn't waste any consumables previously, so made it much easier when timing all the deonations properly and knowing when to simply fire the gun in your hand vs another detonation.
May try it again at some point to see if I could make a cleaner run, as well as get more experience solo'ing two Bahemoth. But glad I can show "nearly" all the tricks I've been ranting on about the Kineticist style in this one (nearly, at least two tricks were not demo'd but that's because of time saving).
Time taken 1 hour, 5 minutes, 47 seconds.
Video shortly.

monk Looking forward to the video! I've gotten confused with a Wave 6 Boss objective too, targeting the wrong Behemoth (see my Nimbus Juggernaut run for instance). Your times will get down if you keep practicing and get used to the wave compositions, maps, etc. Most of my characters now equip the Vulnerability VI. The faster I can eliminate the enemies, the faster the waves go by!

Was thinking of using VI, but for this one, felt it was better to stick to this exact build to show that can be utilised from Bronze to Platinum.
Will finish other videos first before I try again proper. But here it is, but might take a little longer before high res version becomes availabl.

Naladen. A commenter on my YouTube channel asked for a run with the Operator and the Naladen. It took a few tries, including one failed mission with a double Boss (Wave 2 and Wave 6) in which I expended all of my Cobras taking out the first Behemoth, leaving nothing to handle the second. The Naladen is an interesting weapon with its AOE splash damage (20% direct and 80% AOE in a 3 meter radius). With no hipfire penalty, you can aim it at the ground and use it like the Venom or Scorpion with no charge-up or delayed explosion mechanic. It does reload very slowly, which is something that really annoyed me at times during the matches. The way that I specced the Operator (https://thethirdrace.app.goo.gl/dy5g), one charged Overload on an Invasion-affected Observer would strip its shields. A subsequent shot from the Naladen would take it down. Four to five shots to the ground would take out an Anointed. I was able to get a few multi-kills when enemies were bunched up. My backup weapon was the P.A.W. Siphon, but I used it sparingly throughout the match. Mainly, I deployed it to take down Ascendants near the end of a Wave. Video and more details here.

Hack!As in I finally completed a Platinum solo featuring a Hack with a non-stealth character. I've done Hacks before but they were part of failed missions on the subsequent Wave 4 or 6 objectives. This might also be my last solo, and it's a good one with a Shield-Powered Human Vanguard. Watch the video and read more here: bsn.boards.net/post/1078902/thread

Insanity Virtual Kineticist I with common gear and boosters only in Platinum Solo, with map (Vertigo), enemy (Kett), and knowledge and experience backing you up; What could go wrong? Well, objectives for a start. But let's not even go on about completing a wave in 10+ minutes (averaging 16 minutes per wave 1) only to face up with Boss, Hack or Upload. So far, only wave 1 completions (x3 clean runs). Not had a good run with objectives yet to see if it's actually possible to go in and complete as "a virtual" level 1. Will keep this as a side project when I'm bored (or crazy enough) again.
