You see this painting here and there, though this picture was taken from the upper level of the forge in Skyhold. What's up with that? If I had to guess, it's a reference to the legend of Dirthamen and the bear. But why would it be shown with stars and a crescent moon? Why does the white figure have antlers when Dirthamen's symbol was a raven? Does anybody else have some ideas? dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Codex_entry:_Bear

Well may be Dirthamen (the bear) had a thing going for Ghilan'nain and that is the figure with the white antlers. Or may be Dirthamen is showing anger at Ghilan'nain having encouraged one of his followers to commit treason by taking to the air in the "form of the Divine".
I definitely think the moon and stars are to indicate this is Dirthamen, the god of secrets and knowledge, particularly as the bear seems to be breathing fire. Otherwise I'm out of ideas. Seeing as it appears on the wall of the barn at Skyhold, may be Solas painted it on a previous visit, though what significance it could have for him is anyone's guess, unless he was the follower of Dirthamen that was tricked by Ghilan'nain.

You can also find the painting in the stables where Blackwall hangs out. The white creature might be a Sylvan, it does remind me of the dead white trees you find throughout the game, but Ghilan'nan was my first guess as well.

Skyhold has switched hands many times, if I recall. The non-elvhen structures are likely from the times when someone else resided in Skyhold. The keep itself has foundations that seem Ferelden in origin.
My guess is that the wooden buildings--and thus the paintings inside--are much the same. I don't exactly peg the ancient elves to be big fans of wooden structures. The better question is how old that painting is. Because depending on that, it may have some Chasind elements.

I remember when people thought that this was a Solas x Lavellan thing. That it was a wolf instead of a bear and that the halla lady was suppose to be Lavellan. But I've seen that thing in Crestwood and it appears even if your not romancing Solas soo...
I think I've seen somewhere that this is some Ferelden artwork, but I'm not sure.

Well, before Ferelden was founded, the country was populated by the Alamarri, who split off into the Avvar and Chasind. They had their own gods and own beliefs before they were conquered by the Tevinter Imperium, so perhaps the mural is a reference to some forgotten Alamarri legend.

We know that bears and wolves belong to Korth the mountain father according to some of the lore finds in the Frostbacks.
