I uninstalled my Skip the Fade mod temporarily due to crashing issues and decided to have a go of it without it installed. I had a lot of fun traveling through the Fade, learning the various forms and using them.

The first time I played the game, I was completely lost during that long quest but in all the games afterwards, I've loved it and enjoyed playing with the various forms, too.

the fade is excellent. How many games let you run around on fire, be a mouse without a cat chasing you, float in the air and be a golem that smashes the enemy?

I also enjoyed the Fade. It was and still is one of my favorite parts of the game.

I think the main problem most players have with the Fade sequence is that you are stuck there for the duration of the quest, on top of being stuck in the Circle Tower. At the very least they could have made Owain a vendor . As tedious as the Deep Roads are, at least you can come up for air, barring the final battle of course.

I did, until it grew tedious and I downloaded that mod to save me.

I enjoy The Fade. Waffling between Leliana and Morrigan, the witch of the wilds earned my respect by seeing through the dream.

The problem I have with Lost in Dreams is that there's too much back-and-forth-ing. I go up to one point, get mouse, then go back to where I started, use mouse to get to another part, where I get burning man, then go back to where I got mouse, etc, etc. And because of the way the map and such fills in, it's hard to tell when I've found a new area or I'm just roaming through one I've already seen. This makes things doubly annoying when there's, like, one point of Cunning bonus that I've missed, or the like.
It's a great concept, but could've stood to be a little more succinct in terms of plotting.

Love it. It's one of my favourite parts of the game in fact. It provides a welcome change of page, and contains some interesting grounds for tactical thinking, not to mention all the stat bonuses from the various 'shrines' you find there. I think that a lot of gamers are conditioned into racing through content very quickly and always taking the path of least resistance. The fade section is a chore for such people due to the necessity of having to change your pace and slow things down - that's why it's so unpopular.

Well, I am not trying to put words in other peoples mouths, but after reading numerous replies from players is seems the consensus when it comes to the Fade as to why people hate it is: you have to think and take your time to find your companions and your way out.
Sadly, these days I have run into too many players who prefer their hands being held by the company and getting from point A to point B as fast as possible.
I for one enjoyed the Fade as well as the Deep Roads. Skipping it via MOD is something a player has a right to do certainly. I however feel it takes away from telling your character story and the over-all game experience.

I think the main problem most players have with the Fade sequence is that you are stuck there for the duration of the quest, on top of being stuck in the Circle Tower. At the very least they could have made Owain a vendor . As tedious as the Deep Roads are, at least you can come up for air, barring the final battle of course. I actually enjoy the Fade and the Circle Tower specifically because of that reason, because you aren't allowed to leave until you complete your objective. It provides a sense of narrative urgency that this is important and a life-or-death situation for our characters. Stopping in the middle of a hunt for Werewolves to quickly nip to Denerim to visit Goldanna, significantly ruins the immersion factor. Speaking of the Deep Roads, I've love a quest-line that's a mix of Origins, Primeval Thaig and a Descent-style dungeon crawler. Have a surface entrance collapse in a cave-in, forcing us to traverse a perilous section of the Deep Roads until we can reach the nearest exit. And like Broken Circle, have the game make it clear that there's no leaving once you start the quest, so it's best to be prepared before you go in. I know some players will complain, but I say, let them. Sadly, these days I have run into too many players who prefer their hands being held by the company and getting from point A to point B as fast as possible. Hear, hear! All games need some semblance of challenge involved, otherwise you don't feel rewarded for overcoming it. I personally play all games with a (slightly masochistic) self-imposed handicap of Zero Revivals. If any squadmate gets KO'd, I reload from the last save and try again. Sure, it can at times be frustrating when you have to do the same section a dozen or so times, but that's part of what makes succeeding worthwhile. That's why it slightly irks me to see that there are now accomplishments for how many times you can revive KO'd squadmates. To me, that kinda feels like rewarding the player for their failure at keeping their squad alive. Cause if you're doing things right, squadmates shouldn't ever be kissing the dirt or needing you to get them back on their feet.

Sure, it can at times be frustrating when you have to do the same section a dozen or so times, but that's part of what makes succeeding worthwhile. hehe, I do exactly the same. I'd be surprised if we were the only ones. If a companion is KO'd I always feel that I've 'failed' the encounter, and basically done something wrong either through an obvious mistake, inattention, or poor tactical choices. I feel a burning desire to do the encounter again, and do it 'perfectly'. To be honest I've replayed Origins so many dozens of times that I very rarely lose party members now, because I know the game so well, can anticipate each encounter, and have memorised specific tactics for each scenario. Very occasionally I'll mess up in Blackmarsh during Awakening, and have one of the blighted werewolves take out a party member with that damned overwhelm ability, but even that's usually down to recklessness and overconfidence on my part. The only time I relax this rule is during Golems of Amgarrak and Snug The Bronto. Snug's life expectancy during that battle with the five elite golems is pretty dire, and I've gotten into the habit of sacrificing him to gain valuable moments for the remainder of the team to recover.
