We enact The Contingency which involves plane tickets, live broadcasts, a beach, chanting and ritualistic self-immolation. I was with you right up until the end. A beach party that Fred paid for sounds fantastic.

Yeah so we all know how much EA likes to kill great developers. With everything they have sunk into Anthem if it fails Bioware is in real trouble. Do you think they would let them stay and finish DA4 give it to a new developer or just cancel it outright? I don't see Anthem straight out flopping. It may just not develop a hardcore base. As long as it's made up to par, nice advertising, and core following with streamers and YouTube vids as well.. and consistent DLC and updates, they may stay on course. But for all intents and purposes, let's say it flops.. DA4 will still be made but it may be the last entry. With ME shelved, DA wrapped up, and Anthem barely alive.. Bioware will need something on the horizon, otherwise too many idle hands and no profit in worst case scenario that may lead to closure or being absorbed. Best case scenario, Anthem brings in steady stream of cash, DA4 sells well enough to continue the franchise, and a new IP on the works during the last stretch of DA4. ME will be looked at perhaps?

Hopefully, they give it to someone who doesn't believe in this Sarkessian, SJW identity politics BS. What are you referring to specifically? I think it's fairly straightforward. I don't believe in characters that revolve around their gender or sexuality. Case in point, Dorian.

I think it's fairly straightforward. I don't believe in characters that revolve around their gender or sexuality. Case in point, Dorian. We have yet to have a character that revolves only around their gender or sexuality. Yeah, Dorian's personal quest can be seen as being closely connected to his sexuality but there was much more to his character than that. For example, there's his opinion about slavery which is part of what helps separate him from the usual crops of *people from Tevinter we've seen so far in the series. His view is realistic for someone who grew up on the finer side of a culture where slavery is regarded as just another facet of society. It adds more immersion to the setting and actual depth to Tevinter itself. It's why I also liked Krem's account of life there. It's left me with good hope that Bioware can tackle the complexity and nuances of such a civilisation. It's a shame we don't have the options of trying to discuss it further with him but that's something true to more conversations and is sadly not an issue confined solely to Inquisition. Note: Not counting slaves, ex-slaves and commoners. I'm talking about people belonging to the upper tier of Tevinter society.

I am also curious to hear about BioWare characters whose whole character revolves around their gender. I certainly cannot think of any.

How did his entire character revolve around him sexuality? His quest. If you play it, you'll see it's about how he's gay and Daddy doesn't approve.

The mere fact that you do not find out Dorian's sexuality until well into the game tends to disprove his entire character being centered on his sexuality.

Am I mistaken or is this the first doomsayer thread in the new forum area? Have Bioware yet to produce one game that didn't sold well enough? Better to keep your tinfoils in check. To be fair to the doomsayers, there is cause for some concern. EA has a habit of closing studios even when the games they produce are moderately successful, because the company views anything less than a blockbuster success as a failure. As Jim Sterling put it: they're not content with SOME money, they'd rather have ALL the money or nothing at all. And while there's no reason to believe that Anthem will be a failure, there's also nothing to suggest it will succeed either. That said, even if Anthem tanks and BioWare closes ... so what? We move on with our lives. It's not like we're starved for entertainment options in this modern age. EA actually statistically doesn't close more studios down then any other big Publisher, but for some reason people think they just close willy nilly. Look at the last two studios they closede: Montreal and Visceral. Montreal was a studio that had screwed up dev for 3 years and had to use senior devs from other studios to get the game shipped, and they still just merged it in to another studio. Visceral last 3 games released had been failures, the game it was working on wasn't working out and stuck in dev hell, the most expensive studio EA owned, and was having a lot of senior devs already leaving. And only then did EA close it. EA really doesn't close studios that easily, specially not recently.

And only then did EA close it. EA really doesn't close studios that easily, specially not recently. You haven't researched the subject. Visceral's flagship franchise, Dead Space, was largely a "failure" only because of EA's meddling. Dead Space 2 and Dead Spce 3 were both financial failures, even though Dead Space 2 was critically acclaimed and sold 4 million copies. I don't think Hardline did that well either. That's not all on EA. The Star Wars games development also was not working. They also kept losing important staff. That studio had a lot of problems you actually can't blame on EA. And again, EA doesn't shut down studios anymore than anyone else. They also let Visceral continue for a long time when they were struggling, and give them many chances including employing big shot dev Amy Hennig to run them. It didn't work out unfortunately but I'm not sure you can argue that EA was hasty in closing Visceral at all?

Heh its so rare to see anyone going out and actually actively defending EA I am not sure what to believe. I just do not tend to study the studio trends of many other companies outside of BioWare but the story of Visceral does seem to match the story of BioWare right now, hopefully to a different ending though.
