medieval version of this. Start of TW2? when Roche is interrogating Geralt? Or start of TW3? Where Geralt is questioned by the Nilfguardian General? *actually watches video* Is this just to pick your background story that the rest of the game will refer to? That would be like Tw3/ I didn't like Tw2. I got really tired of "replaying the past" and am totally against it. I don't think I played TW2, but it reminds me of Varics interrogation at beginning of DA2. My point was more anything like Big Trouble in Little China would be awesome. Especially if they make the protagonist seem like the hero but actually be the side kick most the movie.

Not a fan of protagonists with sudden super special powers... Especially not a voice in your head. SAM in MEA was such a terrible implementation, anything that sounds even remotely alike will make me pull a face these days.
I want another Hawke/Shepard. A hero of extraordinary willpower and talent who inspires people by example. Hard work and sacrifice make the best heroes. Doesn't matter if the hero was a nobody or a prince, as long as they are special in strength of character foremost.
I'd like the game to start with the conflict between Tevinter and the Quanri already raging again. Or rather just having begun or starting in the course of the prologue. I would be OK with the protagonist being either a minor noble whose life gets turned upside down or a slave who gets to break free during the chaos.
If we get different races again the prologue will have to render the origin meaningless. The hero might again be forced into an organization of some kind. Probably fighting the Qunari back.
In any case, I would much welcome a game darker in tone like DAO or DA2. A war breaking out at some point. But this time it's not darkspawn but the qunari or even the ancient elves. Preferably both, ideally a double plot like DAI. Maybe the qunari can be rallied to stop Solas? Common enemy, you know.
I'd like the game to spend considerable time on showing us Tevinter society, the good, the bad and the truly ugly. Spending some time in the prologue depicting everyday life could be nice. But a long prologue is not a requirement. Longer than DAI's "you're the savior of mankind within 5 min because glowing hand" would be nice though.

even monkeys running through. at that specific line But really love your intro. I have seen the idea of us being the spy that infiltrates the Inquistion (or it's inner circle) before. It sounds wonderful, but we are likely to defect and give ourselves up to stop Solas. do you feel like this will frustrate a lot of people? Got to have monkeys running around loose, that’s how you know it’s northern Thedas. In my mind, defection wouldn’t be encouraged. Quite the opposite: perhaps there are several options to defect “too early” in the game, before proving yourself to the new-Inquisition, that lead to your immediate arrest and a Game Over. After the Exalted Council, they can’t afford to take any chances... and their intelligence organization was helmed and staffed by Leliana for years. Openly share your identity? Dead. Let them capture and interrogate one of your co-conspirators? Dead. Get too close with a loyal-to-the-cause LI, too early in the game? Dead. My dream would be a game with so many unique Game Over slides that there’s an achievement for getting them all. Makes losing part of the fun! Plus, it ups the ante during dialogue choices — when a player knows that no dialogue choices can truly screw them over, there’s less weight to heroic or “dangerous” options. I love when games remove that guardrail. Finally, much later in the game, there’s some way to earn enough trust or succeed at an important quest, that the Inquisition would be open to learning you were a spy. But even then, there’s still an option to stay with whatever group you’re spying for. Your actions would be mostly the same either way, since someone who’s spying needs to act normal. By the time you can defect, your choice mostly changes the details of the outcome. For example, maybe Solas is stopped either way, but if the Inquisition is weakened, the Inquisitor + some DA4 companions lose their lives in the process (but it prevents the Inquisition from amassing even more runaway power, so maybe the PC considers that a good thing?). Or maybe his plan succeeds, but there are different degrees of success. Or maybe Solas is being saved for DA5, and your choice has more effect on the brewing slave rebellion or Qunari-Tevinter conflict.

Hm, I ddin't really get that impression. I mean, in the epilogue slides of Trespasser, it is also mentioned how more and more elves start disappearing (likely to join Solas). Felt like that is happening over the next couple of months, if not years. Also, given how old Solas is and the time frame he is working his plans in usually, I wouldn't be surprised if whatever he wants to try next will take time. he already had the years between base game and Trespasser. Then however many years they're going to jump between Trespasser and DA4. Well, as I said, for a proposition such as getting rid of the veil, basically ending the world as we know it, I don't think it's unfeasible to assume that 10+ years are required to even get close, even for a guy klike Solas. I mean, there is no right or wrong answer there. The timeframe will be whatever the writers want it to be. but you will keep hearing the spirit/demon I guess I keep picking, but I dislike this as well. I hated, HATED SAM in my Ryder's head. I hate this invasion of privacy, and now you want me to be an abomination like Anders? nuuuuuuuuu I never minded SAM much (except for when he goes on my nerves about temperatures ) but I was actually more thinking about the the, what was it? A dragon spirit? that you carry around with you in Divinity 2: Eog Draconis. Though I didn't imagine this spirit to be like her either. It would have to be it's own thing. And yea, I agree, one would need to be careful, not to tirn this into an Anders situation. I do like the idea of having such an inner voice though. The idea was that it would basically always provide a counter opinion to what it is you do and that you can shape it through your interactions. It could be a form of counseling friend or really a demon of doubt, depending on your perspective and you responses. I'd suggest that you could even roleplay your character (through dialogue) to go almost mad because of it (in an extreme case). But as I wrote, it wouldn't possess you like it was with Anders and Justice. It wouldn't manifest outside of your head. In fact, there might be NPCs/companions (maybe even most of them) that question whether this thing is real or if you are not quite right in the head, maybe even yourself question that. Also, being a spirit of curiosity, it could be a nice gameplay mechanism for exploration. No longer a symbol-infected minimap but a spirit, giving you hints as to where interesting stuff might be in the world.

The game starts with seeing a person walking up a high hill in an unknown location. As the camera moves in, the player will see that its Solas. He's carrying something under his arm. Once he's at the top, he uncovers the item. It looks very similar to the orb seen in DAI. He grabs the item. He takes one last look at the surrounding area. He closes his eyes for a few moments, then in one swift move, he throws his arms in the air, with the item in his grasp, and yells, "ABRACADABRA". On its own, the item rises high in the air. Lightning bolts from everywhere strike it. After a moment, the item explodes that knocks Solas to the ground. Once he gets his bearings, he finds the result is not what he hope for. The look on his face speaks a thousand words as he looks to the ground. The screen will go fade-to-black into the character creator. Note: The above could also be the ending of the da game that leads into the next da game after this one. The beginning will go back to the scene between the Inquisitor and Solas. After Solas does his magic hand thingy, when holding the Inquisitors arm, the scene will move into a narration with scenes of the Inquisitor. "Inquisitor. A woman/man that lost an arm. Everyone. We can rebuild that arm. We have the know how. We have the capability to be the first in Thedas to this. Inquisitor will be that man/woman. Better, stronger, faster." It will be narrated by AWR(Alix Wilton Regan) excellent. The narration will be similar to the intro to a tv show in the '70's A scene shows 4 horse riders galloping in a forest to an unknown location. All wearing a cape with a hood. They approach what look's to be a tavern. One rider enters while the other three stay outside. Inside a few patrons are enjoying a pint or two, maybe three . The individual walks to the back to a room. Once inside, the player sees the Inquisitor sitting at a table. The individual pulls back the hood to reveal his/her looks, and introduces him/herself. The Inquisitor tells you what you're being hired to do. Track down the whereabouts of Solas. Throughout the game, the Inquisitor will make cameos to update the main character that will help in finding Solas. The character heads back to his cohorts and tells them that they're to travel to Tevinter to start their search.

The timeframe will be whatever the writers want it to be I guess you're assuming all that preperation with Fallesan_ running around for decades was totally wasted once the orb was blasted? You mean Felassan? Yea, not quite sure what he might have achieved. AFAIK, there is nothing specific about he might have helped Solas' cause in a practical way. At least from what I gather. I am not as firm on DA lore as on ME lore. But the way I see it, Solas was slumbering all the way through until about a year before Inquisition started, right? Then his first course of action was the orb plan, which failed by the end of inquisition. I think it's completely feasible that he might have had a bunch of plans that he was working on at the same time and that he'll spring into action again right after Trespasser as you suggest but I think it's just as feasible that whatever his plan B after the orb is takes much more time and is in a very rough and early state, no matter how much other help he might or might not have had. The writers would have the freedom to do whatever they want in that regard,

With origins. Hopefully. The return of origins stories is one of the things I want most, especially if we get to play as qunari that isn't/wasn't a tal-vashot and now that we get to play most likely in Tevinter, we need a good introduction to their society, but a qunari protagonist would be really difficult to pull off, at least if they Bioware want something well done. That and I also prefer a slow prologue to define the main character, instead of a total blank state Anyway, I liked OP's idea that the Inquisition has an elven spy and that's the first contact of the protagonist with the inquisition, but I rather that the elf dies than becoming a companion. I'm kinda tired of the trope that the senior member of the group steps aside and accepts that the protagonist is now the leader: Alistair, Cassandra, Cora...

Hopefully they will bring back origin stories. Like an elven slave who escapes from a Tevinter Magister. Or the human son or daughter of said magister. A Qunari who is apart of the invasion force. Those are just some ideas.

I'd guess you're an agent of the Inquisition, you're with Charter and other agents on some kind of recon mission up north , let's say in Seheron. You've got informations about Solas minions looking for something there.
You and the group manage to see the elves talking about something pretty bad, but before you can act the Qunari and Tevinter arrives on the scene, big battle follows. You're saved by Fog Warriors. Charter is really hurt, most of the inquisition group is dead. Charter tells you to follow some trail that leads up to Tevinter and create an informatin network, a fog warrior and a surviving member of the Inquisition and maybe a Tal Vashoth join you.
But I imagine it might be way more epic than that, and you'd get more Solas and Eluvians and Boom right from the get-go.

I don't want to see the character I'm going to be playing until I create them in the CC. Didn't like it in DA2 or DAI. Nor do I want that "start in the middle" feeling I got from both games. I want a beginning to the story.

Sort of like how in ME2 Shepard was wearing a helmet that obscured their face until you entered the CC.

My preference would be for the PC to start as a slave, which gives the potential to side with a variety of factions, the independent slave rebellion, the Qun, Magisterium, as some slaves even support the status quo in Tevinter as they have benefitted under it. However, if the writers run true to form then a human PC will be from nobility rather then the bottom of society. A dwarf could be from the Ambassadoria, so that leaves just the elves and the Tal'Vashoth on the bottom rung of society.
I'm pretty sure the introductory section is going to involve the PC being recruited by the Inquisition with the purpose of trying to stop Solas acquiring some ancient artefact, likely to be found in the depths of Minrathous. Instructions may come direct from the Inquisitor in a similar fashion to TIM in ME2, except in this world it will be a communication crystal. Alternatively, your contact in Tevinter will be Dorian and he will be the hub around which the plot revolves and also a dispensary for information about the areas and people you visit. You have to travel around building up your team and also alliances whilst putting together clues about where you ultimately need to go. An early sub-plot may be solving and avenging the murder of Dorian's father.

Whatever it is I hope the game starts quiet and leads to a big tumultuous event after some quiet moments to world build and let us form attachments to our character before the action starts. I know it’s the cool thing now to start off right away with the drama, but in an RPG I find it really, really helpful to have some dialogue centric moments that establish the setting so I can start building a vision and attachment for my protagonist. I find it hard to respond to stressful or dramatic moments with out establishing my character first, and so there is a bit of a barrier that goes up and I feel less invested in my character. After the first playthrough it gets easier but i’d rather be super invested from the get go.
So start with CC and then lead to a “10 minute” calm before the storm in which I can establish and relate to my character.

Pressing New Game goes to the CC right away. There’s a brief description of each race’s background, along with a strange symbol over each race’s head. The symbol over the elf’s head looks somewhat like the grafitti in Kirkwall, the symbol over the human is a snake and dragon, and the symbol over the qunari’s head is the Qunari sigil. The dwarf’s symbol looks dwarf-y, but not like anything we’ve seen before... Your whole idea is making me excited for DA4 I mean, the game probably won't look anything like this, but I can let my imagination run wild with this for a while, at least. I want another Hawke/Shepard. A hero of extraordinary willpower and talent who inspires people by example. Hard work and sacrifice make the best heroes. Doesn't matter if the hero was a nobody or a prince, as long as they are special in strength of character foremost. This. This is why I love Hawke so much: she/he is a normal person who gets caught up in events much bigger than they are, and earns a following through their personality, rather than through having a magic hand. I'd love to have that sort of protagonist again. I don't want to see the character I'm going to be playing until I create them in the CC. Adding on to that, I want good lighting in the CC, so that I don't have to go through a lengthy prologue before having the chance to edit my character's appearance, because they look like a gorilla in-game. To be fair, I think MEA fixed this issue, as my Ryder looked the same in CC as she did in-game, so that will hopefully carry over to DA4.

This si something I never understood really. This problem exists for over a decade now and the solution is so simple: Just let us move the light source (or the character model relative to the light source in the CC. I do not understand why this has not been a standard for many years now. Instead it's not even implemented in any game I've played. Really hope some devs will pick up on this in the near future because I agree, bad lighting in the CC is really annoying.

Depending on who the PC's master is, some slaves have more influence than the average free citizen. My ideal scenario would be that the Player Character starts as a slave to the Archon, performs the prerequisite heroic or ruthless action that gets them noticed, and is promptly summoned to Radonis to become his agent to uncover the Dread Wolf's conspiracy. Being a pragmatic man, Radonis will offer the PC freedom and status if they succeed. However, since he wants to keep the whole thing quite, you will have to gather your own allies and resources, and if you are caught or killed he will disavow you. The PC can jump at the chance, warily agree since they don't have any better options, or refuse. If you say no, the Archon will simply shrug, get someone else and the game stalls until you agree. Oh, and if you want to attack, he's already placed hypnotic blocks to prevent it, another reason to go exploring the Imperium's underbelly . While all races get the same Origin, later you can access quests that provide background to your character's past, much Shepard did in ME1.
No NO NO . While I think players should have the option of allying with the Inquisition, I do not want to be forced into being the Inquisitor's sidekick. Not only does this rob the new protagonist of agency and the players of creating new PCs, it creates a fixed character for their Inquisitors (Inquisition's Hawke anyone? ). Ideally, we should get a dual protagonist game where we play most of it as the new hero, and several select missions as Inky. To prevent players from having to talk to themselves, the game can have us interact with our PCs through letters and NPCs. Most importantly, I want to be able have my characters disagree, especially when it comes to Solas' final fate. If your characters are on the same page, you simply choose which one you finish the game as. If not, you pick which one for the appropriate Boss Battle.

I’m sure if the Inquisition is involved, the Inquisitor would be quite distant. The vast majority of our agents in DA:I never met us. We certainly wouldn’t be a requisition officer or one of those poor sods that finds the random chest of loot in each map. If we were an agent, we’d probably be a contact in northern Thedas, proxying most of our interactions through Charter rather than reporting directly to the top. Leliana had loads of those people who never showed up onscreen. Plus, the Inquisitor will be too busy sexting Dorian and running around with the Red Jennies to do Inquisition business.

I'm gunning for different backgrounds (dwarf with Ambassadoria ties, perhaps a free elf slumming it a la Varania and her mom after they were freed), but all starting in the same area. Maybe some influential person is hosting a party. The humans are there as guests, the elves as either slaves or aspiring apprentices (again, like Varania), qunari captives as "trophies", dwarves as guests.
Then Something Happens™ and your character has to investigate. Maybe you're framed. Maybe the guests or the servants or foreign infiltraters (qunari, Solas and co.) are plotting to kill the host. Maybe the host is plotting to kill you, or get you out of the way, or use you as a convenient scapegoat. Maybe it's a Lucerni gala and conservative Tevinter is cracking down.
Basically, kinda similar to the Conclave except it's actually playable and there's no amnesia.

Something like 1. Pick Race. 2. Pick social Class. 3. pick urban or rural 4. pick native or outsider. 6. pick class.
