I wonder if after the book drops in a bit and the quarian ark thing is handled will we see Volus and quarians in a future MP update? I want my rolly polly volus biotic god in MEA.

Not DLC, but a update. They have updated MEAMP multiple times over the last year. Usually small balance changes but adding in a couple more classes could be in the cards. They already added a couple without a DLC, so maybe a couple more. It would be extra nice if there were a few story MP missions that filled out the story of the quarian ark. But that's pie in the sky stuff.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it's not happening. Any new content would require DLC. The characters/weapons released up through December and the balance changes of the last three months have been content withheld from the final update and server-side tweaks, respectively, not new content.
Devs said way back when the no-DLC announcement was made that there would be no further content beyond the classes (batarians, Artificer, Commando, Guardian, Jugg, IIRC) and weapons (Silhesh, Sovoa) that had been added in that last update but were at the time unreleased. Since they'd already been datamined pretty much immediately after the update, nothing has been or will be added that we haven't known about since, like, June or July of last year.
